Sterns had good reviews early in TC including Zach's praise, but didn't show much in PS#1, hope he steps up and shows what he can do. Question is, how much the Bombers want to invest in small shifty receivers.

Looks like 86 was when they dropped to 2 pre-season games, I believe each team had 2 byes within the 18 week season. -

Prior to the early 80's the CFL played 4 pre-season games plus an 18 game schedule. -

In an interview yesterday, Novak said he has the option to go back to school if he doesn't make the team this year, but with the recent rule interpretation on draft picks, that doesn't guarantee he'll be invited back next season. -

Need to plan ahead for potential injuries, nothing is as cut and dried as you make it. Anyone know which players might be missing the game due to injury? -

I say this every week, the order listed on the depth chart means nothing. Interesting notes added below, I assume anyone that does not have to compete in PS#2 are injured or does not have to worry about retaining their job. NOTABLE: The Blue Bombers are leaving 13 regulars in Winnipeg for the final preseason game in DEs Willie Jefferson and James Vaughters, DT Jake Thomas, LBs Tony Jones, Kyrie Wilson and Shayne Gauthier, defensive backs Deatrick Nichols, Evan Holm, Terrell Bonds and Michael Griffin II, running back Brady Oliveira and right tackle Eric Lofton. All four quarterbacks will dress, with Chris Streveler listed as the starter and Zach Collaros, Chase Artopoeus and Terry Wilson listed behind him in that order. -

Tony Jones played well last season, he easily matched Bighill's contribution and transitioned smoothly into the position, I would think MLB is his job till he loses it. Ayers is probably this year's Brian Cole, filling in and bouncing around between positions, but he might not become a starter till next season, great to have a Swiss Army Knife. -

Punting from the end zone or deep in their own end is a no win situation, even if the punter boots it 55 yds. it's still likely to end up near the 40 yd. line and points will be given up. In that situation it's easy to blame the punter, but it's 100% the offences fault for not moving the ball out from the shadow of their goalposts. -
Meh, goes to show Import receivers are more dime a dozen than RB's are now, no need to spend big money in FA to bring in mid-tier receivers cut from other teams when you can raise your own crop. Reward the ones that succeed like Schoen and reward the ones that grow into the role like Myron Mitchell and Wheatfall have. D. Mitchell is getting beat out by multiple contestants, don't expect they should reward him by cutting other players that have out competed and performed better in the limited time allowed for evaluation.

Two things Clercius has not demonstrated yet, great YAC ability and the knowledge to break off his route to help out the QB, which Woli did so well. If he wants to become a main target these would be important areas to grow.

In the interview he did in the off-season with Ed Tait, Mitchell mentioned he had an alcohol problem in college. He said he put it behind him, but I said the same thing earlier this morning.....so it may not be true at all.

2024/2025 CFL (non-Bomber) Off-Season Thread
Fatty Liver replied to WinnipegGordo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Might come down to a lust for money, he's American, he could probably go back home and make more. I suspect he loves football and will look for an opportunity to get back into the CFL on another level, having gone the player rep. route and being involved with the CFLPA. Hang around Wpg. and he could be in line for Wade's job when he's done, estimated wait time, within 5 years. -
Some mention in today's presser of Dillon Mitchell admitting he was unprepared coming into TC for whatever reason, that could be the kiss of death on a O'Shea coached team. Don't know if they got that comment from a story in the FP or Sun . There's also this from AI header. Dillon Mitchell, in the context of the provided search results, appears to be a football player, specifically a wide receiver, who has been criticized for being unprepared or lacking focus in some games. For example, the Oregon Ducks were criticized for being "unprepared and predictable" in a game, and Dillon Mitchell was singled out as a player who was targeted frequently in that game. Additionally, there's a mention of him being "unorganized," but it's not clear in which context

3 stars plus hh preseason kick off (of fg kicks)

Grant is the ultimate wildcard, whether a game is going well or not, with one 10 second play he has the ability to turn the scoreboard on it's head and steal momentum. -

Anyone know what Bighill is doing? Hard to fathom he stays in Wpg. if he's no longer connected to the Bombers. Could see him getting into management, if he can get his foot in the door with a CFL team. -
Sad but likely true, the limited PR spots this year are going to be valuable, can't use them up on a Greg McCrae type option that is a backup to a backup.

Logan is among the most dynamic returners in the CFL, his problem is staying healthy. At one time the Stamps had Kadeem Carey, Dedrick Mills and Logan as backup, but they were rarely healthy at the same time so their running game never dominated like they could have with all that talent. -
They highlighted Augustine too, which was kind of nice to see.
-
I'm taking Reggie White above Wheatfall due to thicker build, he can hang around on the PR till injury happen, or till Pokey comes home Sterns better have an impressive outing in game 2 or Myron Mitchell's going to grab his spot as the twitchy inside receiver. Dillon Mitchell not showing much yet, but I guess he'll show up sooner or later, but maybe too late.

Let me know when anyone other than Brady takes reps at RB, I'll be astounded. 2-3 years ago they brought in an Import RB that looked fantastic in pre-season, cut him the next day and I can't even remember his name. Comes down to a ratio decision, Peterson probably going to get some work on ST.

Cooley might have to spend time on the PR biding his time waiting for a chance that might never come, Peterson already looks quite capable of backing up Brady, so it comes down to ratio. I'd love to see Pigrome and Cooley on the field at the same time, that would be fun. -

Agree, Chase Artopeus had that Dru Brown vibe, cool and intelligent, maybe not as physically gifted as Wilson but almost surpassed him in effectiveness in one set of downs. They need to keep him around on the PR to evaluate whether he has real potential to develop or if he's just a gifted improviser that can get by faking it for awhile. -

I think it's smart, helps them stand out when they do good things. -
Don't have a good feeling about this, probably should have been here 3 weeks ago for rookie camp. They might have to find someone else quick and go another route.

These are Wilson's passing numbers from preseason #1 last year against the Riders, his first CFL game. 10/15 115yds 1TD 0 INT 7.7 avg 34 long These are Strev's passing numbers for the same game. 7/8 65yds 0 TD 0 INT 8.1 avg 20 long Interesting to note, Zach played the entire preseason #2 last year, no other QB got a look. If today is his day, I hope they limit his reps to one half.
