  1. Sorry, I don't buy that logic. The NFL has already passed on them the first time and in a lot of cases their sham degree from "Southern Pinestick A&M" is not going to lead to many employment opportunities in the real world that pay as well as a job in the CFL.. I can't stand this bias against athletes. Find one guy on our roster that is from a school you've never heard of. You miss the point, most football players in the US are accepted to college on athletic scholarships and would not qualify otherwise. Once there, few take advantage of the educational opportunity afforded them and piss it away on a meaningless degree or never complete. With the time commitment they have to put into football at that level it is understandable to some extent but most of these athletes do not leave college with any worthy credentials. If you can associate 10 import players on the Bomber roster with meaningful degrees I will be impressed. Define meaningful. Should have said useful, but anything above a general arts degree would be my interpretation of meaningful.

My brother coaches at the University/National level and academic standing (GPA and attendance) is a high priority for his athletes. That is, unacceptable academic standing means no play (no matter who you are) until it's brought up to the standard set by the University regardless of sport (I believe its around 3.00 GPA and 80% attendance rate). So I think the more practical question, for me at least is, where do American Universities sit with this when it comes to football play and academic standing with their student athletes? My educated guess would be it varies from University to University. That's all well and good, but a lot of the basketball players at BU when I was there were dumber than a sack of hammers, and mostly they took classes such as shoe tying 101 and walking and chewing bubble gum 305. A lot of universities like to claim that they have high academic standards, and I'm sure some do, but there's also a lot of fluff involved in getting the athletes through those requirements too. Wasn't BU suspended in the past for that issue? Seem to recall sometime in the 80's they brought in a slew of basketballers from the US that had the equivalent of a 6th grade education.

  5. Donald Sutherland is married to Shirley Douglas, daughter of Tommy Douglas. So he really doesn't have any other choice. Dude - they divorced in 1970. That's more than enough time to break away from the terrible NDP. Did not know that. Has anyone told Kiefer?
  6. That sounds impossible, is there a set of numbers that don't have an average? No but this isn't accounting and you can't learn politics by playing Number Munchers. So the ndp and liberals and communists are exactly the same? The conservatives and reform are exactly the same? How is 17to18 claiming that harper brought the torys further away from the far right of there is no gradient. Just a black and white set of binary ideologies? Not at all. There is far left, left, right, and far right. But there is no centre. And anyone claiming to be "centre" is kidding themselves. No the centre is the point between left and right, it means that where ever you draw the line between left and right, the centre can skip onto either side of it and do things associated with either side. If you have degrees of left and right then you also must have a centre. And that is basically were most Canadians stand, despite various parties trying to move them to the wings.
  7. I find twitter messages to be more useful if you don't bother to read them.

  9. What kind of business could survive if it's best employees decided to leave after one year, every year? I swear these one year contracts are going to be the death of the CFL. It's seriously diminishes the value of the league when the best players become so transient it makes little sense forming any attachment to them. It seems to be the antithesis of sports marketing and the promotion of "star" players. Without continuity on the roster the fans will become as transient as the players. "We know how much you enjoyed our product last year so we've completely changed it this year!" Brendan Taman and his short-lived Rider dynasty is a notable example. The NFL used to at least be CFL friendly with a hands-off approach to it's players in the interest of promoting the game of football. Now it seems they are more interested in exploiting it as a farm system and harvesting the fan base as well.
  10. Although I couldn't put it so eloquently, I agree. This is nothing more than a sham/stalling technique for a return to the NFL. I don't believe they are seriously considering the CFL, unless there is some jaw-dropping numbers that I don't believe any team can provide anyways.Quite the little play for drama, but let's get serious, he doesn't have to visit all the cities...he's been there, and knows all the offers. He would be on a roster by now. They're wasting our time and we can tell them to call us, if and when they get serious. you cannot be serious. this os a crutial point in his career! he deserves to take all the time he wants, hes earned it. so what if he takes a week to check out his options.. he IS essentially the toast of FA players for the CFL.. im actually quite stunned anyone feels that hes abusing his position or dicking around.. sure stalling for a week to see if he can get another NFL shot seems odd to you but this is essentially his make or break time.. give him time to chose his destiny. Then Henoc should go home & let his agent do the work he's paying him to do by talking to the CFL teams, weigh the offers & then discuss what team is the best fit for Henoc. Just like every other player has done in the past. Not this sham. And sign with a team tomorrow. Not draaaaaaaaaaag it out for weeks. Week. Its been a week hasnt it? After Henoc was released by the Colts, his agents said they wanted offers by September 8. He had his try-out with the Giants the same day they wanted offers in by. It's been over a week and a half since he was released by the Colts and it looks like he won't be making a decision until sometime next week at the earliest since we have no idea whether his tour is close to over. Then add in the comments by Walters and others that Henoc's agent is looking for a 1 year deal. You don't see how that can be a little frustrating to both fans and teams. If it's 1 year then I hope we don't sign him. Move on. We don't need rental players. We need guys who want to be here & will commit to 2 or 3 years. Absolutely, makes no sense to pay a player an exorbitant amount for a 7 week contract even if it is pro-rated just to see the Bombers squeak into the playoffs to get their tails handed to them. Favour season has expired for Henoc and the "happy to see you" tour has been cancelled.
  11. Please define "pwnt" because I clearly don't know what the hell it means.
  12. Donald Sutherland is married to Shirley Douglas, daughter of Tommy Douglas. So he really doesn't have any other choice.
  13. I wont discount the fact that most media is biased. But there's a responsibility to report the bare minimum of news. This isnt like Russia where they shoot down a jet and then pretend it didnt happen. The CBC is the worst offender because they are public, not private, and have such an obvious agenda. Even if you're a left wing person, Im not sure anyone could argue the CBC serves a useful purpose. I used to love re-runs of Kate & Ally as much as the next guy and Degrassi was awesome. But really.... I think my point was that everyone is biased but the majority of mainstream news is left-slanted biased. If they were all right biased, I'd be okay admitting that with a thumbs up. nah it's slanted to the center, you're slanted to the right. Not a chance! You're slanted waaaaay to the left if thats what you think. Since, as 17 pointed out, Harper pulled the Cons closer to center, then the media would not be so Anti-Harper if they were center. Certainly not as much as they are. Like I said, not all media but most of it is left of center. CTV news and the globe and mail aren't some big commie propaganda machine, 17 to 85 didn’t prove ****. Closer to center does not equal the center, its still right of center. You don't understand where the center is. I know its not where you say it is because you're left of center. If you dont think there is a general mainstream media bias against the Cons, you're way too left for your own good because it's blinding you. Thats like me saying FOX News is very balanced politically. I like FOX to a degree but Im not going to pretend they arent right wing. ok, riddle me this? What is the most centerist pary in Canada? Is it the cons? if so what is the most right wing part in Canada? If the cons are right wing what is in the middle? An empty void? This anti conservative bias you claim is nothing moret that a result of how Harper chooses to act with the media. I dont claim it. It exists. You admit this by providing a cause. I dont disagree that the media has their collective panties in a bunch because Harper doesnt pay them a lot of lip service. But it would be nice if media reported news without a bias based on how easy the government makes their job. If you claim the media isnt bias, thats the end of the discussion. No point in continuing. Is this the kind of media bias you're railing against? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspaper_endorsements_in_the_Canadian_federal_election,_2011
  14. This does not remind me in any way of Durant throwing missiles in the clubhouse in preparation for the Riders 2014 playoff run. Nothing like that whatsoever at all.
  15. At least those two showed up for practice, i didn't see any other players practicing anything. O'Shea must have been sitting in the Nissan, cause a good coach always attends practice.
  16. I think paying an import receiver $175,000 and up experiment is over and will be noted as a failure in the CFL annuls. Moore, Price even Dressler are not worth their pay cheques. Import receivers may not be a dime a dozen but I believe they can still be purchased at two for a quarter.
  17. Nick Moore is just too damn feisty, seems to play like he has a giant chip on his shoulder. He might remain healthy for more than two games at a stretch if he didn't go to war with the D-backs every time he catches the ball. Clarence knows how to catch a pass, fight for a few yards then go down, after which he always apologizes for making the defender look bad.
  18. Speaking of roster moves when did the Bombers add Cam Jefferson to the PR? Never heard of him.
  19. Another scenario, I believe Hurl has shown enough in the last couple of weeks to warrant some trade value if Muamba does sign here. If O'Shea loves Hurl, than there has to be at least one other coach that thinks the same.
  20. Good point, sometimes higher interception rates go hand-in-hand with higher completion rates. Dunigan was a good example of that.
  21. Please God, don't allow Marcel to be the one to guide this kids destiny.
  22. Thus the reason they were running the "3-headed monstert" last year, they gave up on that concept way too early imo.
  23. Oh wonderful! This just seems like the perfect time for all of us to join hands, kneel down and pray for all good footballie things to happen to our beautiful team. I'll start. Jesus loves our Bombers this I know, so the....PUT DOWN THOSE ******* STONES NOW!!!!
  24. Riiiight.... Crompton fluked out 7 victories heaving hail Marias....and nobody caught on.
