  1. As has been mentioned by @Booch, Joe Pascucci would be the best to touch base with for any video clips, as he acts as an unofficial club historian with lots of archival stuff from his days at CKND (had the foresight to save the stuff). The Free Press has their online archive, or you could attend the Winnipeg Centennial library to view their entire microfilm catalogue (which would allow you to print any pages from any issue of the paper, provided you know which dates you are looking for). They may have some newspaper photos. As for the club, not sure if the Alumni Association could help, but try their website at www.bomberalumni.com and reach out to them if you have any specific requests. I also saw that the club posted an obituary for your dad on the www.bluebombers.com website back in 2011 (you can still find a link to it by searching your dad’s name on Google), so they might be of assistance too. Finally, as you have seen, @SpeedFlex27 is our resident go-to guy for the past living history of the club, especially the 1970’s era, so he would have a trove of memories for you. Best of luck with your search.
  2. Team with Bowness behind the bench: 3-6-0 Team with Arniel behind the bench: 9-2-2 Just sayin’
  3. Jets were just a little too cautious in the third. Didn’t really push anything for the last 15 minutes of the period. It almost worked, but a weak goal given up by Hellebuyck flipped the script, and you just knew a late penalty was coming.
  4. Hyman ran a pick when Morrissey was shadowing McDavid and caught him with a shoulder to the sternum on a blind side hit, knocked him flat on his back. And it was a targeted hit more than just “he ran into me not watching”. Was down for a few seconds. Did another shift before going to the quiet room on concussion protocol (best guess), but he is back now.
  5. Me. Last name Dia.
  6. I remember an interview OSH gave with the media after LaPolice was re-hired in 2016. It was noted that he had two former head coaches on his staff now, and didn’t that cause him some concern for his job (especially after the bad 2015 season and more than a few fans calling for his head) that there were two ready replacements to step in easily and take over, as opposed to hiring underlings at co-ordinator who weren’t a threat to his job security? His comment essentially was that it was the opposite - he wanted the best minds possible and the most experience possible, and the best thing for his job security was to surround himself with the smartest and most competent people around to help him so that the team could be the best it could be, rather than sabotage the team success by hiring lesser people out of some misguided need to protect himself. THAT, he said, was the quickest way to find himself in the unemployment line. He wanted the best collection of ideas working with him and challenging him to being the best product out on the field, and it would be silly to be intimidated by it and try to silence that input and ignore that creativity in the hopes that it would give him a safety net for his job.
  7. In lieu of a gift, I plan to make a donation in your name to the Human Fund - “Money for People”.
  8. Can’t imagine why. 😉 #we’re
  9. It’s been a while, but since we are in off-season mode now, time for another random question. This one inspired by US Thanksgiving and the annual call back to this TV moment, which makes this episode a contender: The question - in your opinion, what is the single funniest episode in television history?
  10. Well, good news is I won my Grey cup pool ticket. 28-24 East. $450!!!!!
  11. Too late. @SpeedFlex27 already started it. Only one of two outcomes for him at day’s end today. 1. 2.
  12. Ron MacLean is a really interesting take. He has taken a bunch of heat about his comments on the HNIC panel, and in the wake of the Don Cherry firing. And he tries too hard with the puns, I find. But I also do remember him doing one-on-one interviews with players where he really shone and asked great non-traditional questions. I guess the medium is so important too, like having a longer free-form discussion rather than a short media scrum where you get one question, or a canned talk show interview for 8-10 minutes. I like the “After Hours” segment on HNIC for that, think Scott Oake does OK with it.
  13. Whoa, whoa, whoa. There is no reason to tie a bow on this discussion now. There are still a lot more posts needed in the future to once again state how much the Argos suck. Let’s not shut this down now!
  14. Glad you answered anyway. Appreciate it!
  15. In your opinion, looking at talk shows specifically, is there anyone out there who does anything resembling a good job? Those agenda driven non-questions drive me bonkers. And now when you hear players interviewed (as a result of their aforementioned “media training”, I suspect), whenever they are asked a legit question that is not just a “do you agree with me that” but asks “how do you……” they are conditioned to answer “yeah” as their first word, when it makes no sense to answer the question that way. Like they aren’t even engaged in a proper answer. A pet peeve of mine.
  16. KFC is the NHL goals leader. And just last week all I heard is how no one was going to catch Matthews this season.
  17. Did you see the photo online? I can hunt for it if that helps. Always love your takes on the Bombers from yesteryear. Great for the younger fans on MBB to hear about the original glory days from someone in the know. I think this is the article you were referring to.
  18. How does one train to make the interviewee feel more relaxed and open to telling a good story? What I mean is how much is on the interviewer’s skill and how much is simply having a good person on the other end to answer those questions? And how does the interviewer make the interviewee better? By the way, just want to say that I’m really liking the organic way this topic about broadcasting came about in this thread and the points made by many, and especially the insights of those in the know. Really fascinating talk. Great discussion all around gents (and ladies).
  19. Actually wasn’t. Hopefully Schoen will appear tomorrow, would be a huge addition for the offence, especially if Demski and Bailey are still dinged.
  20. If there was a defensive back who deserved to be first to win MODP it was Juran Bolden in 2001. Teams actively changed their offensive strategy just to avoid him, and he would move around to cover the #1 receiver on every team, IIRC. QBs just would not throw his way because he was sure bet to intercept them. And he still led the league in INTs that year.
  21. Was asking so I could gauge how recently you had seen him and how he was progressing. Since you said “this week” it sounded like you were in Hamilton (which I guess in fact you were since it is a short trip from T.O. and you would have seen him at practice on Friday). So if you saw him this week on Friday it is encouraging and gives us who aren’t there to see it some insight and hope, since reports all week were that he wasn’t practising. But when you said you weren’t there this year and would be watching from Winnipeg, I was wondering when you saw him (like maybe Monday on their way out of town) and if he was moving well at the start of the week, it would strike me as odd that he wasn’t practising at all. Was just looking for some more intel on his status, and looking for clarity as to when he was moving well, the start of the week or the end?
  22. I really liked JJ when he played here for the most part. Sadly, my lasting memory of him in the end was the year after he won MODP. We were getting hammered 35-0 in Edmonton at the half, en route to a 42-10 loss. JJ makes an interception and when the camera cuts to him on the sidelines he chirps “that’s what happens when you test number 2, best defensive player in the league”. Matt Dunigan ROASTED him at the half for boasting while down 35 points, saying that selfish me-first attitude in the face of a blowout spoke volumes about his lack of self awareness. An unfortunate side effect of “Swaggerville”.
  23. No harm in it I suppose, but IMO if you have to tell people who didn’t ask in the first place how great you are/were, then you weren’t as special as you think.
