  1. Got my pair to game one today at noon. Resale market. Very pricey but that is to be expected.
  2. If you ignore the quotes and merely answer the bolded part, the answer is always “no”, regardless of the article or issue at hand. The Hockey Writers are hackS, IMO. Just write “provocative” hot takes for click bait.
  3. If you go to the “NHL Playoff Chase” thread I have outlined on nauseating detail the tiebreaker rules for ranking teams. Won’t regurgitate it here, but to explain it quickly: Dallas is 6 points behind Winnipeg with 3 games each left to play. If Winnipeg loses all 3 and Dallas wins all 3, they would end up tied in points, so the tiebreaker would take effect. First tiebreaker is “regulation wins”. Jets currently have 43, Dallas 41, so Dallas could still finish with 44 and pass the Jets. If they ended up tied in regulation wins, the next tiebreaker is “regulation and overtime wins” where the Jets lead 53 to 48 and cannot be caught. So the upshot is that if the Jets gain one more point or Dallas loses any possible points, Jets finish with more points and win the division. But even if Dallas wins out and the Jets lose out, if any of Dallas’ games go to overtime, the Jets will have the tiebreaker edge and get first place.

April 11 update: Magic/Tragic # West - Magic # Winnipeg - Clinched playoff spot Dallas - Clinched playoff spot Vegas - Clinched playoff spot Colorado - Clinched playoff spot Los Angeles - Clinched playoff spot Edmonton* - 1 Minnesota* - 3 St. Louis - 4 ——————— Tragic # Calgary - 4 Vancouver** - Eliminated Utah - Eliminated Anaheim - Eliminated Seattle - Eliminated Nashville - Eliminated Chicago - Eliminated San Jose - Eliminated East - Magic # Washington - Clinched playoff spot Carolina - Clinched playoff spot Toronto - Clinched playoff spot Tampa Bay - Clinched playoff spot Florida - Clinched playoff spot Ottawa - Clinched playoff spot New Jersey - Clinched playoff spot Montreal - 3 ——————- Tragic # Columbus - 3 Detroit - 1 NY Islanders- 1 NY Rangers - 1 Buffalo - Eliminated Pittsburgh - Eliminated Philadelphia - Eliminated Boston - Eliminated *Hold the tiebreaker advantage ** Have a tiebreaker disadvantage Tonight’s clinching/elimination scenarios: Montreal clinches a playoff spot with a regulation win against Ottawa (Montreal would hold the tiebreaker against Columbus) Columbus is eliminated with a Montreal regulation win against Ottawa (Montreal would hold the tiebreaker) Detroit, NY Islanders, and NY Rangers are all eliminated with a Montreal win or OT/SO loss against Ottawa Detroit is also eliminated with a loss of any kind against Tampa Bay Edmonton clinches a playoff spot with: - a win or OT/SO loss against San Jose, OR - a loss of any kind by Calgary against Minnesota Minnesota clinches a playoff spot with a win in any fashion against Calgary
  5. Won’t clinch quite yet as they haven’t secured the tiebreaker yet. They would be up by two regulation wins with 3 games to go.
  6. Had to check all the tiebreaker scenarios and made some corrections to tonight’s clinching/elimination scenarios. For anyone wondering, the sequence of tiebreaker procedures is as follows (assuming teams are tied in points): 1. Points amassed in fewer games, a.k.a. higher winning percentage (obviously not at issue at season’s end when everyone has played 82 games) 2. Higher number of regulation wins (reflected as RW in the standings) 3. Higher number of regulation and overtime wins combined (ROW in the standings) 4. Higher number of regulation, overtime, and shootout wins - basically number of wins in the win column (W in the standings) 5. Greater number of points on head-to-head match-ups: (a) if an odd number of games has been played between two teams head-to-head, then the team with the higher number of home games in the season series will not have its first home game (the “odd” game) count in the determination of total points (b) where three or more clubs are tied, then the club with the greatest points percentage in games between all tied teams (not counting any “odd” games) is seeded first 6. Larger goal differential (reflected as DIIFF in the standings) 7. Greater number of goals scored (reflected as GF in the standings) This has all led to the scenario tonight where New Jersey can get into the playoffs without playing a game and even if their rival NY Rangers win their game tonight. NJ has 89 points with 4 games to play, NYR, Detroit, NYI, and Columbus all have 78 points with 5 games to play, meaning that at most they can tie New Jersey by season’s end. NJ already holds the regulation wins tiebreaker against every team but NYR, and leads NYR by 4 regulation wins. If NYR does not get a regulation win tonight, than at best they will finish the season tied in regulation wins, ROW, and total wins. NJ holds the 5th tiebreaker by winning the season series 3-0-1 against the Rangers. So even if the Rangers win tonight, if the game goes to overtime they will be eliminated due to being behind in the tiebreaker sequence to NJ. Or they could just lose and make all the math easier.

  11. I’m frustrated too. They showed no intensity through the first 35 minutes of the game, and blew a golden opportunity with Dallas losing today, which they would have known before the opening faceoff. But Hellebuyck made some huge saves on high danger chances. He was the only reason it wasn’t 6-0 after 2 periods. Jets lost in spite of his play, not because of it. Injuries are not helping either. Completely changes our power play, which did not need extra reasons to struggle.
  12. Are you suggesting he was bad tonight?
  13. Scheifele and Hellebuyck appear to be the only players interested in trying in the first period. Jets go to Sin City and look completely dialled in, then go to Mormon Central and look completely distracted for the second time this year. Go figure.
  14. I was somewhat unsettled after the LA game. Coach Arniel seemed to have had a more positive view of the effort than I did, but last night soothed a lot of my concerns and showed again why coaches are coaches and fans are fans. Team was dialled in from the start, that was a playoff-style effort and game plan. Hopefully the injury bug is not rearing its head now after a fairly clean year, but a result like that renews my good vibes about this team finishing first and making a deep run. Exciting times.
