Wingnut Matt Walsh says the quiet part out loud The right to vote isn't a right at all, but rather a privilege that should be reserved only for those "equipped to take part in the process," writes Matt Walsh, a 27-year-old, far-right talk-show host and blogger, at the Daily Wire this week. Walsh normally would not merit a flicker of attention from normal humans. But in this case, he has provided a valuable service to the non-wingnut world by saying openly what fellow voter suppressors are only thinking. Or perhaps whispering amongst themselves. "No It Isn't Easier To Buy A Gun Than Vote. But It Should Be," proclaimed the headline above Walsh's Daily Wire blog. Obviously, he relished killing two birds with one stone. Walsh bathed in conservative shock-and-awe. After complaining that guns were more costly to obtain and more restricted than voting rights, he wrote: "Gun ownership is, after all, a more important and more essential right than voting. Voting is not really a human right at all, but a privilege that ought to be reserved for those who are the most qualified to do it. The ability to defend yourself and your family is fundamental. We all have the God-given right to ensure our own safety and that of our loved ones." Wingnut Matt Walsh says the quiet part out loud - Alternet.org

Oath Keepers’ Best New Hope Is a Lawyer Who Cites ‘Lord of the Rings’ Prosecutors are said to be considering sedition charges against members of the far-right militia. Now an attorney with a bizarre past is raising cash for them. The Oath Keepers militia has seen better days. Members of the far-right group’s leadership are facing conspiracy charges for their alleged role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Prosecutors are reportedly considering rare sedition charges against those members, and Oath Keepers’ fundraising efforts have stalled after companies like Amazon banned the group from their charity programs. But they have one great, shining hope: a crowd-funding effort spearheaded by a lawyer who recently tried to dissolve Congress and reinstall Donald Trump using a lawsuit that cited politics from Lord of the Rings, the fantasy trilogy about elves. Kellye SoRelle is a failed Texas House candidate and member of the group Lawyers for Trump. After Trump’s re-election loss, she joined a lawsuit that sought to keep him in office, in part by likening the ex-president to a king from the Lord of the Rings’ fictional kingdom of Gondor. Now that a judge has dismissed the elf lawsuit, SoRelle is taking up the Oath Keepers’ defense, raising money for them on a “Christian crowdfunding” website. Which will continue to stoke the flames of grievance in Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan. These people live in the fantasy that a Alliance/PC will solve all their problems and ensure a prosperous oil industry, high grain prices and lots of guns. They ignore that even when Harper was in power, none of these fantasies came to pass. The world economies are changing and so is Canada's but these same people fear change and are willing to cripple their own best interests to stop it.

Today on Facebook, the PCs and/or O'Toole posted about the importance of Canadians keeping their guns. I was stunned that such a brain-dead posting would be made so soon after the killings in the US. The lack of sensitivity and common sense says a lot about the 2021 Conservatives.

Police Probing Possible Hate Crime After Car Drives Through ‘Stop Asian Hate’ Rally Authorities in California are investigating a potential hate crime after a man was seen driving through a crowd of protesters at a “Stop Asian Hate” rally over the weekend while yelling racist slurs. Video posted to Instagram on Sunday shows demonstrators appearing to exchange words with the driver of a black Honda Civic while the vehicle is stopped at a red light in the city of Diamond Bar, which is east of Los Angeles. As the protesters walk past the car along a crosswalk, the vehicle appears to drive through the red light and do an illegal U-turn while driving toward one of the demonstrators. The driver shouted racial epithets — including one targeting Black people and “**** China” — as he drove away, local station KCAL reported. No injuries were reported during the incident, authorities said. Police Probing Possible Hate Crime After Car Drives Through 'Stop Asian Hate' Rally | HuffPost

Disney has apparently said that the future of theaters is very much in doubt and that they (Disney Corp) is planning along those lines just in case.

The biggest problem with the Guaranteed Annual Income is the PCs screaming "free money being handed out by the government". Any administration choosing to implement it (and it works very well in Scandinavian and some other European countries) would have to do it immediately upon coming to power and be prepared to put up with insults and verbal abuse for 3-4 years so as to accumulate some hard numbers about cost savings. It would also have to be a joint federal/provincial program.

As per CBC News this morning, there has been an explosion of COVID variant cases in Regina, leading to a severe clampdown. Scary- it could happen here, too if we are not vigilant and respect the restrictions.

This is going to provoke no end of bad (and sexist) jokes, but apparently the captain of said ship was........(ahem) female and the first and only female captain to ever helm a ship through the Suez Canal.

It is axiomatic in therapy that you cannot use logic to defeat emotional beliefs. It is like using architecture to explain dance.

It means that you can get your pension and vaccination at the same time. Very efficient.

Also displays both ignorance of the volatility of the pandemic and their gamble that their supporters and the public in general are too uninformed to see the holes in his position.

NRA bragged that it blocked Boulder AR-15 ban just days before deadly shooting killed 10 people The National Rifle Association bragged that it helped block a ban on AR-15s and high-capacity magazines in Boulder, Colorado, just days before a gunman reportedly armed with the assault-style rifle killed 10 people at a Boulder grocery store. Boulder police said that 10 people, including of their officers, were killed at a King Soopers grocery store on Monday. A wounded suspect who was taken into custody has not yet been publicly identified. A law enforcement source told CNN that the weapon used in the shooting was an AR-15-style rifle. Hours after the shooting, the NRA tweeted a defense of the Second Amendment. The organization bragged about its role in blocking the city's ban on AR-15s just six days before the shooting. "A Colorado judge gave law-abiding gun owners something to celebrate," the NRA tweeted on March 16. "In an [NRA Institute for Legislative Action]-supported case, he ruled that the city of Boulder's ban on commonly-owned rifles (AR-15s) and 10+ round mags was preempted by state law and STRUCK THEM DOWN."

Since the Americans are so litigious, maybe the best thing that could happen is that the parents of a young person who dies of a COVID infection acquired in a Florida visit would sue the governor personally for contributing to a wrongful death.

From the little I have seen and heard about our new kicker, we ought to be OK. There will be a few hiccups if Medlock does the probable and hangs 'em up. Competition is always good, though. Has Hajrullahu matured enough?

The size of the sample population (32,000) would seem to give a great deal of credibility to the study. As an aside, my sister in law (in her 60's) who had a fairly mild case of COVID late last fall has just been hospitalized with multiple blood clots in her lungs. Whether it relates to the infection she had is not certain but appears to be related.

Former Top Capitol Riot Prosecutor: Maybe Trump Is Culpable The federal prosecutor who initially led the Justice Department’s inquiry into the Capitol riot believes there’s enough evidence to charge some suspects with sedition—and that ex-President Donald Trump may be criminally responsible. Michael Sherwin oversaw the investigation as the acting U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. until he stepped down from the role last Friday. In an interview with 60 Minutes broadcast Sunday night, Sherwin said: “It’s unequivocal that Trump was the magnet that brought the people to DC on the 6th... We have soccer moms from Ohio that were arrested saying, ‘Well, I did this because my president said I had to take back our house.’ That moves the needle towards that direction. Maybe the President is culpable for those actions.” Sherwin also said that the “evidence is trending toward” sedition charges against some of the rioters—the crime of conspiring to overthrow the government. It would be the first time federal prosecutors have brought a sedition case since 2010, when members of a Michigan militia were charged—but later acquitted—of the crime. -CNN

U.S. AstraZeneca Study Shows Vaccine Gives Total Protection From Severe COVID-19 AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine is 100 percent effective in preventing severe disease and hospitalization, according to the results of a long-awaited U.S. trial released early Monday morning. The impressive figures—based on a massive trial which included more than 32,000 participants mostly based in America, but also in Chile and Peru—showed 79 percent efficacy against symptomatic disease and total protection from severe disease. Crucially, the trial identified absolutely no safety concerns and, specifically on the issue of blood clots that caused a wave of panic about the vaccine in some European countries, the independent committee found “no increased risk of thrombosis or events characterized by thrombosis.” The findings will now be sent to the Food and Drug Administration to support an application for emergency authorization of the vaccine. This happened yesterday and it is important information for particular age group. A friend had his 1st dose of the vaccine at the vaccination center. Afterwards he began to have blurred vision on the way home. When he got home, he called the vaccination center for advice and to ask if he should go see a doctor or be hospitalized. He was told NOT to go to a doctor or a hospital, but just return to the vaccination center and pick up his glasses. * -Shared from a friend.

Lauren Boebert's latest bonkers conspiracy theory has Twitter users convinced she is losing it Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) has a new deranged conspiracy theory about the upcoming 2022 primary election and Twitter users are convinced the newly-elected lawmaker has lost her mind. According to the Colorado Times Recorder, Boebert participated in a recent town hall in Montrose, Colo. where she was asked about Democratic figures at the center of the "Deep State" myth—including a number of former directors of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Hillary Clinton—and whether or not they would be held accountable for their unspecified crimes connected to the QAnon conspiracy. Before hearing the rest of the question, Boebert spiraled into a frenzy with a bizarre theory about the upcoming primary. "I'm going to answer part of this," she said, interrupting the man as he demanded Democratic leaders be held accountable for their so-called crimes. "Yes…I sure hope so." "So we are seeing a lot of ugliness uncovered, a lot of corruption exposed," Boebert then said as she expounded on the man's frivolous claims. "But I believe that we are going to start seeing gifts and callings of righteous men and women exposed to counter all of this. Gifts that have remained dormant on the inside of people are going to start rising up. People are going to start filling these positions that they never saw themselves in, doing their part to serve their country." Boebert went on to insist that she has "good sources" who are allegedly "in very close contact with President [Donald] Trump" confirmed that what she is saying is "really good information." She added, "So, anyone who tries to tell you that this is a fringe newspaper/media don't listen to them. I have very good sources to say this is really good information. Is it a hundred percent? I don't know. But it's really good information." Lauren Boebert's latest bonkers conspiracy theory has Twitter users convinced she is losing it - Alternet.org
