  1. Pat King bail review adjourned again, this time in response to new charges against him A key figure of the Freedom Convoy protest will remain in custody for now after his bail review hearing was adjourned Thursday due to new charges against him. On Wednesday, the same hearing was abruptly adjourned when a lawyer's computer was hacked. Pat King's defence lawyer had requested a review of the decision to keep him in custody until his trial begins. The bail review hearing started Wednesday but came to an unexpected stop when King's lawyer, David Goodman, who was appearing virtually, interrupted court to alert everyone his computer had been hacked. Through Goodman's computer speakers, a cryptic voice repeatedly said the computer had been locked. The proceeding was adjourned until Thursday, and Justice Graeme Mew ordered a publication ban on the hacking. When the hearing resumed Thursday, the publication ban on the hacking was lifted. Goodman told court his computer issue had been "fully resolved," nothing was corrupted and his files were safe and secure. All evidence presented at the bail review remains subject to a publication ban, which is often requested and granted to prevent potential jurors from being prejudiced ahead of trial. King was a leading figure in the weeks-long convoy protest against COVID-19 restrictions, and was arrested on Feb. 18 on four charges: mischief, counselling to commit mischief, counselling to commit the offence of disobeying a court order, and counselling to obstruct police. King is now facing additional charges of obstructing justice and perjury. -CBC News

  3. Capitol Rioter Who Blamed Trump For His Actions Found Guilty A Washington, D.C., jury has ruled against an Ohio man who pinned the blame for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot on Donald Trump. Dustin Byron Thompson, 38, was found guilty Thursday on all six counts, including charges related to disrupting Congress’ efforts to formally certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. He also stole a coat rack and two bottles of liquor from the Capitol. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton ordered Thompson to be detained until his sentencing because he considers him a flight risk. The judge excoriated the defendant, saying he believed Thompson was “weak-minded” and had lied on the stand about what he was thinking that day. Walton also had choice words for Trump. “The insurgency ― and it was, in effect, that ― is very troubling,” Walton said. “I think our democracy is in trouble because unfortunately we have charlatans, like the former president, in my view, who don’t care about democracy and only care about power.” Testifying earlier this week, Thompson told the courtroom he viewed the then-president’s speech that day as his marching orders. Trump had ended his “Save America” rally outside the White House by urging his supporters to “fight like hell” against Joe Biden’s legitimate victory. “If the president is giving you almost an order to do something, I felt obligated to do that,” Thompson said, according to NBC News.

  5. Fox News dangerously declares war on teachers: Calls for violence, accusations of 'inclination' to pedophilia From Tucker Carlson to Laura Ingraham to Mark Levin, Fox News propagandists have declared war on public school teachers. The dangerous attacks follow the right’s misleading claims – fueled by Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation – about children inappropriately being taught about sex, homosexuality, bisexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity starting as early as kindergarten. Last month, just days after Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ spokesperson Christina Pushaw charged that anyone who opposed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill was “probably” a “groomer” – essentially, a pedophile, pedophile enabler, or pedophile supporter, Fox News propagandist Laura Ingraham jumped into action. “When did our public schools, any schools, become what are essentially grooming centers for gender identity radicals?” Ingraham asked, as Media Matters reported. The chyron was less ambiguous: “Liberals are sexually grooming elementary students.” In fact, on Monday Media Matters’ Matthew Gertz wrote, “With Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law, Republicans have weaponized their Fox News base against teachers.” Sunday night Fox News’ far-right “fringe” host Mark Levin hosted award-winning playwright David Mamet, who has no degree in childhood development, education, or sexual studies, to discuss public schools. He declared that teachers, especially male teachers, are “sexual predators.” “Teachers are inclined, particularly men because men are predators, to pedophilia,” Mamet charged, pointing to no study that proves his claim. https://www.alternet.org/2022/04/fox-news/
  6. Frank Langella Fired From 'House Of Usher' After Sex Harassment Claim: Reports Frank Langella has been ousted from “The Fall of the House of Usher” series after Netflix determined that the 84-year-old actor committed sexual harassment on the set, TheWrap reported Wednesday, citing a production source. Deadline confirmed the firing and said Langella’s lead role of patriarch Roderick Usher, once portrayed by Vincent Price in a 1960 movie, would be recast, even though half of the production had been completed. Langella’s scenes will be reshot, according to the entertainment site.
  7. Molly Shannon Says Child Star Gary Coleman Attacked Her In A Hotel Room The "Saturday Night Live" comedian said the "Diff'rent Strokes" actor was "relentless." Molly Shannon said a “relentless” Gary Coleman repeatedly grabbed her while attempting to kiss and fondle her when she met him. (Watch the video below.) The “Saturday Night Live” alum’s troubling encounter with the late child star of “Diff’rent Strokes” (1978-86) seemed to occur during his run of fame from the sitcom. In an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday, Shannon said she joined Coleman and the agent they shared in a hotel suite so she could talk with the popular actor. He appeared charming at first, she remembered. He held her hand and told her she reminded him of Kimberly, the character Dana Plato played on “Diff’rent Strokes.” But as soon as the agent left the room, Shannon said Coleman turned aggressive. Tickling morphed into an attack.
  8. (Why hasn't anyone else thought of this simple but effective solution?) Tennessee Republican says homeless people can 'decide' to 'have a productive life' because Hitler did it An Ivermectin-pushing Republican state Senator voting for a bill – not to reduce homelessness or increase aid to those experiencing homelessness, but to reduce homeless encampments – defended his position by giving his colleagues a “history lesson” about the genocidal Nazi Adolf Hitler. “I haven’t given y’all a history lesson in a while and I wanted to give a little history on homelessness,” declared Republican State Senator Frank S. Niceley on the Senate floor Wednesday, as WZTV reports. “In 1910 Hitler decided to live on the streets for a while,” Niceley said. “So for two years Hitler lived on the streets and practiced his oratory and his body language and how to connect with the masses. And then went on to lead a life that got him in the history books. So, a lot of these people its not a dead end. They can come out of these homeless camps and have a productive life, or in Hitler’s case a very unproductive life.” It’s unclear why Senator Niceley decided to invoke the most-hated person in history, responsible for approximately 17 million deaths, to give hope to people experiencing homelessness. It’s also unclear why he framed being homeless as a choice. Hitler, by the way, did not decide to live on the streets for a while. He lived in a revolutionary homeless hostel that was funded by wealthy Jewish philanthropists, according to The Guardian. https://www.alternet.org/2022/04/republican-congressman-homeless-life-hitler/ (Would this be pulling yourself up by your jackboot straps?)

  11. There is every reason to believe that Sweden and Finland will join NATO in weeks, not months. Putin can huff and puff all he wants, but he has lost about 20% of his army so far in Ukraine, and there is a maxim that if a military loses even 10% of its personnel or materiel, its confidence takes a massive hit. And More Bad News For Putin:
  12. Trump admits he wanted Barr to take the fall for election scheme: 'I said look — get impeached' Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he pressured then-Attorney General Bill Barr to pursue bogus voter fraud claims after his election loss even if it meant being impeached. Trump claimed in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity that Barr did not want to investigate his baseless voter fraud claims because he was worried about being impeached even though Barr has repeatedly said the Justice Department did not pursue the claims because there was no evidence of any widespread fraud that could have affected the election outcome. "Look, we also had a chance, but Bill Barr, the attorney general, didn't want to be impeached," Trump said. "How do you not get impeached? You sit back and relax and wait out for your term to end. That's what he did. And it was a sad thing and a sad day for our country." Trump also lashed out at Barr for writing what he called a "crummy book" that was "so false." Barr in his book rejected Trump's debunked fraud claims and blamed him for the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot, arguing that Trump was not fit for office. "Had Bill Barr had the courage, a lot of this could've been taken care of," Trump said. "The U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia said Bill Barr told him not to investigate the fraud in the elections, and he said 'Don't do it.' And he wrote a letter to that effect and you know, had Bill Barr had the courage to do what he should've done instead of being worried about being impeached. "I said, 'Look, get impeached. I went up a lot in the polls when I got impeached. You have to get impeached, maybe,'" Trump added. "But he was so afraid of being impeached that he refused to do his job." https://www.alternet.org/2022/04/barr-trump/

  14. Trump told Mitch McConnell about his coup to flip election results in Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, but McConnell stayed silent. CNN reported: In the weeks after he lost the 2020 election, then-President Donald Trump had a plan to stay in office — and he wanted Mitch McConnell to know about it. If Trump could successfully pressure Republican Gov. Brian Kemp to de-certify Biden’s narrow win in Georgia, that would lead to a domino effect: Officials in Pennsylvania and Michigan would follow suit and overturn Biden’s electoral victory, Trump believed, a stunning reversal that could keep him in the White House for a second term. And Trump was certain he could subvert the election outcome, telling McConnell, then the Senate majority leader, and other top Republicans that he had personally been on the phone with officials in Pennsylvania and Michigan — and they told him they would move to keep him in power, despite the results showing Biden had won their states. The new book from Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns reports that McConnell knew about the plot but stayed silent because he didn’t want Trump to sabotage the Georgia Senate runoff elections. (Trump sabotaged the Georgia runoff elections anyway because that is what Donald Trump does). Mitch McConnell knew about the coup plot, and he did nothing because keeping Trump in power would benefit him and hopefully give him the Senate majority. McConnell has betrayed his country on too many occasions to count, but his most telling betrayal might be his decision not to try and stop Trump. If McConnell had spoken up, 1/6 might have been prevented. The Big Lie would not have taken hold, and lives would have been saved.

  16. There seems to be inconsistency among the forecasters as of 17:43H. Some are saying we are due for another dump and winds almost as bad as be have had in the last 12 hours, and others are saying 2-8 CMs of snow with "some" wind. Right now, I am leaning towards believing the more optimistic forecasts.

  21. Finland is not all that worried about Russia. Finland spends more on military per capita than anyone else in Europe. One Finnish politician said, "We're not worried about Russian soldiers coming into Finland. We already have thousands here just inside our border, about six feet underground."
  22. One of the ever- changing reasons for attacking Ukraine that Putin has given is to prevent nuclear weapons from being installed at Russia's border, but Poland abuts Russia and has been NATO for a while. All of this is a sham for Putin to try to restore the Russian empire as a monument to himself. There have been persistent rumours that he has thyroid cancer, which can be treated with palliative measures but not cured.
