Walby named Nichols the player of the game.

Heh, heh. Long-term injuries to those three will give the Bombers the perfect excuse to bring back all the coaches next season.

Game Day Thread- Week Fifteen, GAME 13: Als @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers September 2, 2018
before that final Bomber drive with less than 2 minutes left they had 90 net yards on offense. Finished with 150. Not particularly great. Walby thinks the Bombers played a pretty good game. I disagree. Adequate comes to mind.

Fritz Hanson to be inducted into Ring of Honour
How about a positive thread for a change... Fritz Hanson - the first superstar in Bomber history and one of the all-time greats from the early days of Canadian football - will be inducted to the Ring of Honour. https://www.bluebombers.com/2018/09/18/ring-honour-inductee-fritz-hanson/ They called him ‘Twinkletoes’, the ‘Perham Flash’ and the ‘Galloping Ghost’, and every nickname just seemed to perfectly describe his enthralling skillset. Melvin ‘Fritz’ Hanson was the first superstar in the history of the Winnipeg Football Club, pre-dating all the legends in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ long and storied history, arriving decades before Stegall and Roberts, Ploen, Lewis, Gray, Tinsley, Brown, Brock, James and Walby. Hanson – the 2018 inductee into the club’s Ring of Honour – first appeared on the local football scene in 1935 during the Great Depression – spurring a $1,000 offer from the New York Giants to sign in Winnipeg instead for $800 along with a new overcoat and the chance to be close to his hometown in Perham, Minnesota. And he instantly put the franchise on Canada’s sporting map. The ‘Winnipegs’ – as they were known then, before the nickname ‘Blue Bombers’ was hung on them by Free Press sportswriter Vince Leah – had fallen in the Grey Cup semi-final in 1933 and were just 3-4 a year later when the Bombers added Hanson. The game was changing then, with more American college players migrating north to Canada and passing coming into vogue. Long overdue but I'm glad it's finally happening.

Blue Bomber Photos
Murph sure caught a lot of long bombs for TDs back in the day. In fact most of them appeared to be of that variety. He sure as hell would have trouble getting more than a handful today given our current starting QB.

Crossover Standings after Week 13
Edmonton has nearly 50 more net yards per game on offense. That is significantly better than the Bombers.

Role of a CFL GM
Every coach and gm, past and present, bring valuable things to the table - even the Mike Kellys and Kavis Reeds of the world. That's not a compelling enough reason to keep them. Do those valuable things outweigh all the non-valuable or bad things they bring to the table?

Where would this show with Omega be held? University of Manitoba?

Role of a CFL GM
Walters is OK but he handicaps our team because he has limited connections down south. Yes, the scouts are there to find players in the US but it would be better if both the GM and the scouts had an extensive network there.

Matt Nichols -BOO!!!!!!!
They did get hot at the right time but they had at least one element on that team that allowed them to to get hot at the right time against the better teams in the CFL. That of course would be Ray. I still remember that incredible long pass he made to the Argos receiver, hitting him in full stride for the TD in the Grey Cup game. Nichols, and several other Qbs in the league would never be able to pull that off.

Crossover Standings after Week 13
Riders are mostly a good team. Great defense and good special teams. Terrible offense though.

Toronto has had quite a few changes since last season, not the least of which is the loss of Ray for the entire season. A Ray-lead team would have 6 wins at this point.

So can we start talking about firing MOS yet?
No team in CFL history has kept a head coach for more than 4 seasons without at least one playoff victory. The Bomber organization has been extremely patient with him. Make the playoffs and win at least one game or you are done. Simple.

So can we start talking about firing MOS yet?
IF the Bombers miss the playoffs or are one and done, O'shea will be fired and Lapolice will be promoted to head coach to right a wrong from 2012.

Crossover Standings after Week 12
BC is actually pretty good at home. Their defense was particularly impressive against the Esks a few weeks back. Reilly was sacked a few times, including a fumble; defensive backs played tight to the receiver swatting away a few balls that looked like catches; limited the eskies to very few yards in the last quarter. Factor in eastern teams having to travel 3 time zones for away games in BC and I think they can win 7. Their offense is unimpressive, but the defense looks good. Bombers have to win at least 2 more to cross over. Lose next week to Kavis - built roster and imo the season is done.

I don't think a coach in the history of the CFL has lasted more then 4 seasons without at least one playoff victory. We are in year 5 of the O'Shea regime. If the Bombers make the playoffs, and lose in the first round, he should be fired regardless of how well the Bombers play. The organization will have showed more patience than any other CFl franchise under similar circumstances.

In the 2013 off-season Wade said he would still search for a GM...then he simply kept the interim GM.

Lapp deserves some of the credit.

So can we start talking about firing MOS yet?
I'm not surprised to hear that, regarding Miller micro-managing the team. I'd be interested to know what decisions he has influenced in a negative way related to the on-field product. Guess you can't reveal anything specific though, huh?

So can we start talking about firing MOS yet?
The 2002 team was one of the best all-time offenses in CFL history. Hardly an indictment of Lapo. I will wait and see what they have planned a few weeks from now. People here are being myopic and are not nearly assigning enough blame to Nichols and his declining/lack of skills. Lapo probably played a significant role in his success considering how poorly he played in Edmonton prior to be traded to Winnipeg. Without Lapo's play-calling Nichols may have very well never have had those two good seasons in 2016 and 2017.

So can we start talking about firing MOS yet?
I want to see what kind of plays they design for Streveller two weeks from now before I cast shade on lapo. And even if Streve struggles against Montreal, how much blame can you fairly assign to Paul anyways? Strev is pretty inexperienced and will make his fair share of mistakes.

So Lapo is at fault for the receivers dropping balls?

With such conservative play-calling - and with the run game being shut down with mostly short gains - you would no doubt be on here saying Lapo is playing not to lose.

Just pointing out the absurdity of the host of the post-game show in defending Nichols. Even if he had attempted to present a legitimate defense of Nichols - which last year's playoff game against Edmonton was not - this is a what have you done for me lately business. Nichols has been average to poor for nearly a year at this point. It has been mediocre play, not a blip, by this point in time. Nichols should not be given the benefit of the doubt based on how he played in 2016 and the first half of 2017.

C'mon mang. Nichols is totally our Ricky Ray. I can see it happening.
