Elementary school teacher here. I have had this exact thought numerous times throughout the pandemic when I hear wacko anti-vax arguments and research. Maybe I am emboldening a future generation who know more than the "experts" and sheep that listen to them. 🙄

Wasn't there a story about the Roughriders organization essentially having their players on the honour system for vaccinations? Basically not asking for proof from the players? I've searched, but cannot find a story. Maybe some kind of bizzaro nightmare that caused me to use Roughriders and honour in the same sentence...

This sounds great, but if you learn more about CanWhite Sands, they might not seem so glorious. There has been some shady and underhanded stuff going on as far as being able to bypass provincial environmental reviews. The PCs have finally caved and announced an environmental review, but have refused public hearings as part of the review. There is real danger that this project could contaminate the largest aquifer in Manitoba - the Sandilands aquifer. Stefanson has basically announced Manitoba is going full steam ahead on mining projects and I have a strong suspicion that the environmental review will be done by "consultants" friendly to the advancement of this project. The same thing as former Sask Premier Brad Wall being the "independent" hired consultant that recommended privatization of hydro. I don't know where it fits in the timeline with the Neufeld trade and the Stanley Bryant signing, but signing Chris Randle was also pretty good, even though he isn't here anymore. Fortunately we have moved on to a place where we rely on recruiting stud DBs.

Again a guess - I think what has been happening is whenever there is a vax mandate or discussion that comes into play, the anti-vax groups spread it around and get others to express outrage and comment on the internet. If you look at the locations people are posting from (in general, not from the Zoo), it is often people that are not even close to the region. Just a bunch of people trying to make it seem like the majority is against vax mandates. Just as we see massive Rider support attacking any online polls, the same thing happens with anti-vaxxers. Fortunately it is actually an exceptionally vocal minority that tries to bolster their cause by recruiting others to flood the polls.

I hope you are right, but I don't think you are. I'm not sure how "reasonable people" can come to the conclusion that it is better to be unvaccinated than vaccinated from the data that is out there from credible sources. Just looking at the data from Manitoba, the numbers of hospital admissions/ICU patients from vaccinated/unvaccinated populations. Also comparing the rates of Covid cases in Winnipeg and Southern health regions... If you took the word *reasonable* out of the statement, I might be more inclined to agree.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this is correct - legitimately interested if you have a source that confirms your belief. I think generally something can mutate to be both more lethal AND more infectious. I believe the mechanism is that increased lethality will harm the spread (if it kills people quickly, it is hard to spread much). I think Covid has been especially problematic because of asymptomatic spread and pre-symptomatic spread. I have requested the book The Premonition from Michael Lewis from the library in hopes of learning more about Covid and hopefully epidemics and responses in general. Appreciate that you could have an open mind and be willing to learn from others. Unfortunately, I don't believe this is the case with most of those who are not vaccinated at this point in time. I think most are firmly in the camp that they won't ever get a Covid vaccine. Some may still be swayed by conversation and good sources, but I don't think many will. Rough guess is that an equal number would be swayed by having vaccine mandates. Our government has put a lot of resources into provide vaccine information and reducing hesistancy to little effect. A common response is "the vaccine must be very dangerous if the government needs to spend money/bribe people to get vaccinated". The information is there from multiple credible sources if unvaccinated people truly want to be informed or have a good faith discussion. Now is the time to protect those who cannot be vaccinated, those who are at risk even though vaccinated, allowing a sense of normalcy to return to people's lives and for the economy and business owners to have some stability. The way forward is reducing the amount of harm that unvaccinated people can do through vaccine mandates.

In talking to Bob Irving on the post-game show, he couldn't say enough great things about the Bombers organization and how much he loves Winnipeg and loves playing here. It really sounded to me like he was getting choked up when he was talking about how much he loves this team. In the same interview he ripped into the Riders whole organization. I can't remember what he exactly said, but it had to do with how they are a garbage organization that employs dirty players. So on top of being a great quarterback, he's an excellent analyst of organizations. 😄

This happened AT LEAST 3 times in the game (I was counting after the first one I noticed). Harris went directly into Gainey and plowed through him. Knocked him on his ***. I noticed towards the second half Gainey was mostly avoiding straight on contact with Harris and was initiating contact from the side.

We were so much worse against the run before Stove came back. I'm not sure if we did something else when he came back, but our defense got so much better. Especially against the run. He's one of the biggest worries I have for injuries. We have good backups in just about every position (except QB and K), but I fear our run stopping would suffer without Stove. Edit - I vaguely remember that Wilson came back around the time Stove also did. That probably beefed up our run stopping ability.

He did get dealt a pretty good hand, but he has been without our #1 weapon for most of the year. Even when Harris has been in the lineup, he has been used in different ways. We rarely see the short passes to Harris this year. It would be nice to reevaluate with a broader body of work and what he can do without an established offense, but he's surpassed my expectations this year. I felt there was likely a bit of a learning curve early in the season, but offense has rarely been a concern this year. Either has defense though. I have a feeling we were one of the most prepared squads coming into the season. Not only having a lot of the championship-winning team back, but the organization holds itself to high expectations from top to bottom. I'm betting we used 2020 and the extended unofficial 2021 preseason better than any other team. Well organized virtual meetings, players frequently in contact with each other, etc.

I might have said this is too harsh before, but there are a lot of people who's lives are being severely harmed by the threat of Covid - those who are immunocompromised and cannot be vaccinated, people with young kids that cannot be vaccinated, elderly people that still have significant risk of infection despite being vaccinated, anyone who expects to have a functioning healthcare system for when they need it. My grandfather recently passed away in a nursing home. Despite being vaccinated and members of his family being vaccinated, visitation and other care was greatly restricted. There are many vulnerable people like him that have had pretty shitty lives the past couple of years, even after getting vaccinated. It is well overdue for the unvaxxed to bear the brunt of the pandemic and restrictions. Many of them have flaunted lockdown restrictions and have extended the pandemic, made it more dangerous for vulnerable people and caused harm to businesses and the economy. I still think they should have a choice to be vaccinated and I think privileges being taken away might lead to even stronger anti-vax views, but it is more about removing a danger from society than encouraging them to get vaccinated at this point.

Just skimming this thread to catch up. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought Suitor was downright brutal. I already had really low expectations for him, but the last few weeks of him have been the worst I've known in his career. He's rarely insightful and continually presents as a homer. I don't think he's coming back this year. How the Nichols injury was handled in 2019 made me think there's no way he'll be back this year unless O'Shea says he will play for sure. I sure hope I'm wrong, but there's a history of "might be back" being extended for a long period of time. I'd love it if he can at least split carries while getting sharp for the cup.

I believe that is supposed to be how it goes. I've heard a range of different levels places check from friends. Airlines, restaurants often not really checking vax status either just verbally or the QR code on its own.

Possible, but how would an MLA in the governing party not know what the rules are, especially if she's dined out multiple times at multiple different restaurants? Her refusing to tell her vaccine status previously certainly gives no reason to just trust that it was an error. I don't think its a huge deal, she claims she's double vaccinated, we'll see when the mandate comes in for legislature. Just another PC MLA thinking the rules don't apply to them.
