Fortunately Kenney and Co. have some sympathy for them by getting rid of taxes. Feds also chipping in taxpayer money to fund O&G companies in these 'hard times' Average consumers feel inflation, yet are being blamed for wanting their wages to keep up with costs & profits.

They've also apparently disqualified two candidates for running for leadership, potentially for their views on abortion. Me thinks they might not want to split the batsh*t crazy vote that Pierre Populist is aiming for.

Agree with just about everything, but I don't think he's necessarily short-sighted. Likely acknowledges being a misinformation-spewing opposition party leader is the best he can do. Even without being a party leader it has brought him tons of attention already. Too much risk of not even achieving that if he plays it straight and develops effective policy to get fame and power. He has his style, he has his crowd and he's perfecting how to exploit that.

Accept reality and spend public money on making a transition. Not spending it lobbying to continue a problem that will be magnified in future generations. It was announced today that big financial gains are being made in the oil sands with Cenovus Energy tripling their dividend and looking to continue increasing the dividend to "share the wealth" with shareholders. ON THE SAME DAY, it was reported that huge amounts of capital expenditure will be needed to help the oil sands reach carbon goals with around half of that money coming from taxpayers.

If your 'both sides' comment was directed at me, I was merely asking an honest question about how reliable the numbers are. Nothing to do with a value judgment, just that I don't think you can legitimately take data from either side of any conflict without confirmation from elsewhere. My dad's side is Ukrainian btw.

How much reliability do you put in these figures? It says they are being reported by Ukrainian Armed Forces. I think Russia is pushing misinformation a lot more, but its likely a both sides thing.

Last I read was that Moderna and Pfizer both hoped to have a new vaccine with increased efficacy against Omicron rolling out in fall. I believe both companies are also hoping to have a vaccine rollout for kids 6 months - 5 years in summer as well. Hoping my family can avoid Omicron until both those rollouts happen. My grandma is currently hospitalized with Covid and has quite a few risk factors, but fortunately fully vaccinated and boosted.

After packing on a ton of winter clothes, I made the dumb decision to not wear them and barely be able to walk, more often than the smart decision. Walking around like a deer taking its first steps. Hopefully as I get older, I'll smarten up a bit.

I fail to use them when I really should, but I have some pretty heavy duty ice fishing cleats that I use and have never come close to falling (when I'm smart enough to wear them - rarely). There's a few different kinds, my wife has a light duty set and that usually works well for her as well. Just gotta remember to take the extra 5 seconds to slip them on over your boots in the winter.

+1 for Sals. I've been mostly brewing my own lately, but I used to buy Red Roof lager frequently. The box comes full of Sals coupons which make the food really cheap. I've enjoyed both the food and the beer. Beer is brewed by Fort Garry. Nips are my usual go-to at the stadium as well.

That is massively false, which you basically admitted by modifying your claim to any semi-automatic made before 1985. I'm fully aware some semi-auto's can be converted and I've even read the SKS can accidentally slip into full auto mode. To say you can make any hunting rifle into a fully automatic weapon is a joke and I'd love to see the stats that the overwhelming majority of hunting rifles used are semi-automatic made before 1985 🤣 Anyway, done with derailing on useless minutia when its obvious your original claim was either incredibly ignorant or intentionally misleading.

Again, pay attention to the words I use. I never mentioned shotguns as I know most shotguns now are semi-automatic. I consistently said hunting RIFLES. Semi-auto shotguns are also not restricted. Most gun owners do not have restricted licenses and are not legally allowed to own semi-automatic RIFLES, unless they are rimfire, which I'm sure you already know. I am not a gun expert, but I know enough to spot a bait-and-switch. You originally claimed all guns can be easily modified to full auto in 5 minutes using a hacksaw. I assumed you didn't think anyone on the board would know enough to call it for the BS statement that it is. When I called you out on it, you changed it to semi-automatic and then made before 1985. That's quite a difference from your original claim. I'm hoping the Russians follow this line of thinking. I'd love to see their soldiers outfitted with bolt action rifles.

As GCn20 already pointed out, many of the communities are very low income and have a range of social issues. Unfortunately socioeconomic concerns come to school with the students. Significantly higher expenses for resource and special needs (despite demands still being met at much lower rates than in Southern MB). Having a majority of students below grade level also makes it much more difficult for even grade-level students to have their educational needs met. Even with higher funding, it still doesn't meet the needs. I doubt even twice the funding would fix the education gap.

Fortunately most hunting rifles are not semi-auto. Something the average non-gun owning person may not realize. In fact, semi-automatic rifles are already restricted in Canada and most gun owners are not allowed to possess restricted firearms. That's a pretty big stretch to go from making any hunting rifle into a fully automatic weapon which was your original claim. Additionally, making modifications such as you suggested (which is definitely not possible with MOST hunting rifles) would make the firearms illegal. By already restricting/limiting access to firearms there has been some of this going on. Hunters are allowed perfectly good firearms to use for hunting, but not allowed access to significantly more dangerous weapons. There are also programs in place to require firearms owners to attend training, additional training and background checks are done in an imperfect attempt to prevent restricted firearms from getting into the hands of those most likely to use them to cause harm to others.

Until politicians pay a political price (losing votes) for outright lies, this will continue to be a main part of election campaigns. It shows that leadership has a very low opinion the intelligence of those who support the party. The US has a much tougher justice system with a more "tough on crime" stance than Canada. Why is there so much more gun crime in the US? Also, I own a few hunting rifles myself. I'd be interested, and very skeptical, that you could turn my hunting rifles into fully automatic firearms.

I wasn't there in person, but wow, you just revived a memory I never knew I had. I remember watching with a friend and we couldn't believe it was allowed. No word if the replay officials later migrated to the CFL Command Centre.

I taught in Frontier for years and know many teachers around the division and at reserve-managed schools in the North. The differences in education are staggering and the gap has continued to grow, especially since Covid. There are students who have missed out on two whole years of education and attendance rates of 10% class-wide(not always the case, but I know places where it happens regularly). It is shocking the difference between Northern MB and Southern MB. I can't imagine students who have gone two years without education will suddenly have great attendance rates in future years. It is saddening and there is little knowledge or willingness to do anything about it by anyone in Southern MB.

Unfortunately, we even see huge disparities in our public schools in Manitoba. More wealthy areas generally have better schools that have less resources required for a range of issues associated with poverty. Wealthier areas also have much higher involvement and support of families which can help schools. One of the reasons I was against bill 64 was because it would increase the disparity between 'have' and 'have-not' schools in the public system.

I was amazed at how much time in advance we knew about this storm coming. Usually long term forecasts are incredibly unreliable, but I think they did a good job on this one. I can't imagine how a storm like this in the past would have halted society without the advanced warning we had. There were multiple days between the forecast and the storm that it appeared spring was here to stay and the melt was going full steam ahead.

Has Finland not said that they will be meeting in summer to strategize about when/if to join NATO? I thought I read that somewhere. I would agree that they should do it sooner than later as well.

My suspicion is that there are a lot of people who haven't looked smart for most of their life clawing at every attempt to show they are smarter than others, when really they just don't understand the complexities of situations. "Vaccines don't work because vaccinated people can still be infected" "The government made the media hype the storm because they wanted people to buy stuff". As Bartley said, we are already within the predicted range (and not done yet) and we are likely within the predicted range of responses too. Some people didn't care, some people went overboard. This would also depend on some people's ability to handle risk. My grandmother has health concerns and limited mobility, this could make a potential storm, power outages, etc. much more dangerous than someone like me. She should appropriately be over-precautious. Nothing to see here other than some people trying to grasp at attempts to make themselves look smarter than everyone else because others prepared for a storm. Likely the same people that would be the first to demand help and blame the government/media/WEF if the storm was worse than expected.

Former PT teacher here. When I saw that PT announced schools were going remote last night I immediately said, I bet this is the first the teachers are hearing of this or, at best, they were told with 10 minutes to go in the school day.

Would you stop with these facts already? Trudeau is clearly the reason we have inflation to begin with, but is not the reason our inflation numbers are better than most of the developed world.
