You want a proven head coach then your only option is Trestman. No not Higgins. Everyone else with experience who isn't 100 years old has been given a shot to be a head coach and failed. That's why it's always coordinators getting hired these days. You know what' better than firing a decent head coach in Mike O'Shea? Giving him enough depth on the roster so that a few injuries don't derail the entire thing. We need to stop blaming coaches here. Kyle Walters seems to be the teflon man but 2 years now he has simply not brought in enough talent from the States to this team and his drafting is fairly over rated as well. He's done some good work in signing CFL free agents but outside of that he is lacking and needs to be better before we think that a new coach will magically fix everything. Yes, this is Walters' mess. Our depth is terrible and a banged up squad like Calgary only reveals that. Walters was not ready to GM. The exhaustive search for a capable GM was classic Miller spin, friends helping out friends. Biggest mistake we made (at least GM wise) was tying the can to John Murphy. Calgary has benefitted enormously.

You're looking at it from your personal enjoyment perspective -- I look at it from the city's long term health perspective. And downtown WPG is nowhere near its economic or quality of life potential. Frankly, it still sucks. Look at other major N-American cities with urban sprawl issues -- they are bending over backwards to try to keep entertainment development in the core, not transplant it into the burbs. Minneapolis is putting their new facility downtown for a reason. But hey, we'll always have Portage Place.

Downtown WPG is a sea of surface parking. Its one of the main reasons the downtown is such a hole compared to similar cities.

The second it was announced at the U of M site -- a logistical cluster truck -- just to get the government dollars it became a lame duck project. It pains me that they didn't find a way to build downtown. Such a missed opportunity to create more vibrant city. Now Regina is doing the same thing.

Look, I won't play CBC radio here -- When I go back to WPG and see the gang bangers and drunks stumbling out of the bus shack at Portage Place, or hear stories of people getting a $5000 Medi-Vac'd by air ambulance out of the reserve just so they can go gamble on the weekend, it bothers me. But these are all the symptoms of a problem our country created. You have to own that before any progress can be made.

To be so unapologetically ignorant about the steps taken in building this country isn't much better. Ignorant because I refuse to be a guilt-ridden white liberal and apologize for wanting to bring indians into modernity ? It's not white-guilt syndrome to acknowledge that the way our country did things was completely messed up. And attitudes like just "bring Indians into modernity" is just the same attitude repeating itself. Now we have a 10-15 billion dollar sinkhole called the Dep't of Native Affairs that is basically ineffective as all it does is throw taxpayer money at problems -- and the problems will never go away, because you first need to get to the root of the problem. That these people feel completely disenfranchised.

Their primary purpose was to eradicate First Nations culture, to get rid of "indians" once and for all. Explain to me how that can ever be "not a terrible idea"?Because assimilation is not a bad thing. Signing treaties hundreds of years ago was an easy solution at the time but they have long lasting negative effects that manifest themselves in this day and age Seems to me the best thing would be for people to stop being pieces of **** and treating people differently based on cultural background. Christianity is pretty tame right now, but look at what happened during the Crusades. I think it's our responsibility as Canadians to be tolerant, yes, but also skeptical. What people want to do on Sundays is their business -- just don't let them inject their beliefs into policy making, education, government, etc. Lets not forget registered churches are getting a tax break as well. I see, so religion should not inject their beliefs on society but your beliefs regarding gay marriage must be supported by them? Anything else your highness? There's no need to be so condescending. One of the best books I ever read in the subject is Kiss of the Fur Queen by Tomson Highway, Not for everyone's taste (strong homoerotic theme) but the picture he paints is compelling. And yeah, while you won't find me peeing and moaning for "an inquiry NOW", I do think the residential schools was one of the darkest chapters in Canadian history.

I'm sorry but most religious congregations are basically a Star Trek convention. If dressing up like a caricature and putting on some affected accent is part of your weekly "worship" then I strongly suggest stepping away from organized religion for a while and perhaps reading a science book or two.
