I do. We are just not as consistent. There is a difference. I say this year's team is the most capable of winning any given Sunday. Now they need to get into the right head space to consistently make it happen. That's not head in the sand, or denial of any sort. When we are on our game, this team is damn near unbeatable. Yes, we are wasting a roster spot on Jackson. No one has said otherwise. The fact is we are still able to finish 15-3 with both higher point output, and lower points against than last year. Did we lose a couple that we shouldn't have...yup...did we do that last year? yup. I'm sorry but all season you guys have been harping on roster management and we all get it but suggesting this team somehow isn't as good and is regressing is nonsense. We are every bit as good as last year talent wise. Last year we brought it every game, this year we have had some poor weeks of prep and mental let down. This week last year we got smoked by Hamilton....absolutely taken behind the woodshed and beaten like a rented mule. Teams, even great ones, have those kind of games sometimes. I want us to be perfect as much as anyone, but realistically it's not going to happen. I see a veteran laden club who has showed up to every big game this year in a BIG way. 50 and 40 burgers numerous times this season.

Let's hope so. I don't want him to go out there and lay an egg and prove the coaches were right to keep him on PR that's for sure. I looked over our last 4 years of depth charts and saw a pretty interesting pattern. In all the past 4 seasons Osh would play lean at the DL until the last month and then started adding DL to the roster as the playoffs approached. Quite possible we see this again.
-
You are saying we will not finish 15-3? Who are you giving a win to against us? I keep hearing about regression but that has NOT been proven yet. I like our chances of winning out. You don't? I don't understand why it seems like you are hoping we lose?

Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

You can switch a guy from 1 game to 6 game...always could. What you cannot do is count games that the player served on the 1 game IR as part of his 6 game stint. Never could, never will be able to do so. Not after 1 game or 2 games. Not sure where you got the info that you could? Has never happened before, there is no precedent for it. That is the whole reason they have two injury lists for cripes sakes. You can discount the rule book and the CBA if you wish, but find me one player that was switched from 1 game IR to 6 game IR and had those games count for SMS purposes. You won't find one, because it has never happened. You begin the 6 games of your 6 game IR AFTER, and only after, you are served you papers as a player placing you on the 6 game. That is when you are quite literally banished from the team for anything but rehab. -

Not according to the CFL rule book. You could always take a guy off the 1 game IR and put him onto the 6 game but he starts at game 1. There are vastly different rules for what a player can do, and can't do, when on the 1 game and the 6 game IRs. Not according to the CFL rule book. Look it up. According to the rule book, you can switch a guy from 1 game IR to 6 game but definitely NOT retroactively. A player on the 6 game cannot attend anything team related other than rehab for his injury. Players on the 1 game IR are free to partake in any team activity. That is the difference and it's a HUGE one that absolutely prevents teams from retroactively 6 gaming injured players. The CFL rule book and the CBA spell this out very clearly. If I am mistaken, so is the CFL rule book and the CBA. -
Totally agree. Walters has never been one to sit on his thumbs if he thinks he can shore up any area of our football team and particularly if he thinks it's necessary. If a move is out there that moves the needle and is the right price, I suspect Walters will take his swing.

Just responding to your post in which you directly quoted me and had quite a lengthy opinion about. Problem with that? Want me to stop...pretty easy solution. Don't respond.

Oh puh-lease...pulling out the victim card now? You sat on a Bomber forum and called the team a bunch of wussies for not reacting to violence with violence. Then when members disagreed with your take you went onto some weird tangent about how you were concerned about player safety and that is why they should bash each others heads in..so it will stop. When that remarkably twisted logic went over like a lead balloon, you tried to appoint yourself the forum leader and lectured us all on how we can be better..presumably by not disagreeing with your far out takes. That even came complete with your resume attached. That was followed by me calling your entire approach horseshit. Too harsh..maybe..insulting...probably. DESERVED..hell yea. Put on your big boy pants if you are going to come on here to lecture us on how we could be better. I'm not here to honor your opinion, I will respect it when it starts making sense.

Yep. Every dollar paid to a player, ANY player is added up. If you have a string of injuries those dollars go up because you are paying more game cheques, if a player misses 6 consecutive games and the player was placed on the 6 game that portion of any remaining game cheques he would have gotten is exempt from the add up. Pretty simple. For every game we pay a minimum of 46 game cheques + injured players game cheques. Some of the injured player cheques may end up exempt if they are long term injuries and the team has placed them on the 6 game IR. -

You cannot retroactively put a guy who was on the 1 game IR for say 5 games onto the 6 game for one and get SMS relief. CAN'T BE DONE. You can take a guy off early on the 6 game but all the games he missed become countable to the SMS except for one player each half of the season. The one game and 6 game have very different rules on what players are allowed to do in terms of team engagement. 1 game IR players can still be involved in practice and team meetings. 6 game IR players cannot. Therefore, you absolutely cannot retro swap guys from the 1 game to the 6 game otherwise absolutely no one would ever be on the 6 game until they missed 5 consecutive games. If you take a guy who was on the 1 game and then put him on the 6 game, he starts at game 1 of time missed for 6 game purposes. -

If I'm Dinwiddie, I want to know what my team does well and does not do well against by far the best team they will face this year and most likely Grey Cup foe. There is 6 weeks left and lots of time for adjustment if that team proves to be much better....which I suspect they will. There is nothing that Toronto can hide from us now. The game film is out there. Going in and getting trounced in the final third of the season can have devastating effects on a young QB and you can't rest guys for 6 weeks and expect them to have any kind of cohesion come playoff time. You play your best, with your best, until the final couple weeks and get some key vets a breather just before the playoffs. Resting guys with a month and a half to go makes no sense at all. But hey....if Dinwiddie want to put his roster and game plans in the blender for 2 months of the regular season, he deserves the garbage he will get when they try put it back together. -

By every definition he is a rookie. You start dumbing down the game plan and the offence starts suffering so will his confidence. Book it. You act like Kelly is immune to being a rookie? Makes no sense. Momentum is a crazy thing and once you lose it, it's tough to get it back. At any rate, we are going to beat you guys down Sept 29 no matter what you do. -

Any offensive momentum you are trying to have with a rookie QB goes completely out the window if you start doing stupid shat like that. Probably gets players hurt too. Also, Toronto can't afford losses. Attendance is finally coming up and you don't throw that away by purposely looking like shat the final third of the season. -

For sure. 100% correct. It's very simple math really. It would take injury levels never seen before, or Collaros to spend half the season on it, to reach 600k in SMS savings through the 6 game. Sure, I completely accept that Walters has likely budgeted for some of this year's cap to be spent on next year. That is NOT what the discussion was. -

At no point did I ever suggest we were replacing vets with vets, my calculations are actually based on replacement at league minimum salary. I am not misunderstanding anything. Anytime a guy goes off the 46, a new guy comes on and earns a game cheque that wouldn't have got one otherwise. That is absolutely 100% fact. Those game cheques must be included in the SMS. Do we leave money for that? Of course. Was that the discussion? Nope. You cannot realize savings from money already set aside unless you don't use it. When guys go to the 6 game those funds allocated for it shrink accordingly. Therefore, it is SMS 101. Savings from the 6 game minus the cost of replacement. It is absolutely 100% the way the SMS works. I missed nothing. You are missing the math. -

You CANNOT retroactively move a guy from 1 game to 6 game IR. Different rules of what you are allowed to do for each. You can remove one guy early each half of the season from the 6 game without the SMS hit. The rest have to stay on the full 6 game to get the savings. Exactly right, Whereas, the 6 game allows (IF the player does the full stint) means that one of those players are wiped off the books but the other still counts on the SMS. -

You run some kind of dummy playbook, or rest a bunch of starters, we will hang a 50 burger on you guys. You guys are good, but not good enough to be thinking anything but the Bombers are the team to beat. Choose not to do so at your own peril and waste a chance to see how you truly measure up. Right now your schedule has been SOFT as butter. I can't see Dinwiddie not wanting to see how his team looks against us. -

You also have to factor in the game cheques earned by his replacement and subtract that off the pro rated amount. So 42k in savings minus Agudosi's game cheques that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. At league minimum that is 4k a game for 5 games so 20k. The savings for Lawler on the SMS are in fact 22k after cost of replacement. There is no way Agudosi or any other Bomber is earning league min on our PR....maybe RIchmond...that would be the only guy because he is the heir apparent to Bryant. Everyone else is making diddly on the PR. -

Miller is over 100k according to 3DN. Rose might be 125k but he only missed 6 games that count against the SMS. That 1/3 his salary IF and this is a big IF he didn't get a single dollar up front. Grant may do 2/3 but we don't know yet. Hansen 80k. The problem I have with all of this is that you guys have given zero consideration to the cost of replacement for each roster player that we 6 game IR. Cap savings, and I will type this as slowly as I can because it seems to be lost on people, are the players salary minus the cost of replacement for players on the roster. If Miller loses the entire season at 100k, we do not have 100k in open cap space because of it. We have 100k - the cost of replacing him in the lineup. If we replace with someone on a rookie minimum deal the cost of replacement is 72k. That makes his entire stint on 6 game for the year a cap savings of 28k, The only time you get massive savings on the 6 game is when your stars go down, guys who make far more money than the cost of replacement. Haba, Gauthier, Clements, Lawrence, Beeksma, Hansen all represent little to no savings on the SMS to us because we MUST fill their roster or PR spots while they are injured. There is no 600k unicorn savings...that CAN'T happen under any scenario this year without half our team missing the rest of the season on the 6 game. Even 400k is a far fetched number. It's not happening. You guys need to understand that you can't just play short or roster short when a guy goes down. When someone goes down someone else goes in, and they get paid game cheques that count against the SMS and eat up a lot of the savings. We will be lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it, to have 275k in SMS savings from our injured players for the entire year. -

I'm not seeing anywhere that the NFL is actually mandating teams to sign Globals. Seems to me they are just allowing any teams who want to do so to have a roster/PR position available for their development should they decide to do so. -

Darby, Rose, Hansen, Grant, Miller avg 90k...sure. Darby is on his first stint, Rose had one stint...60k. Miller, Hansen 2x 60k=120k. Grant one stint just entering 2nd stint = 35k, JJ is Jackson Jeffcoat I assume? We have no 6 game saving from him. Lawler was not on the 6 game but his suspension saved us around 60k. We paid a significant amount of his salary as a signing bonus for this year. His actual remainder is somewhere around 160k after bonus. Prorate that over time missed and you get around 60k. Again....275k. If more guys finish their 2nd stint it will go up. 600k is not even remotely in the ball park unless we lose Zac for the remainder of the season. 325k is too high. Our season total at current pace would be in the 400 - 450k ball park for the season. -
Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
GCn20 replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There is no chance that combination of 6 game savings totals 325k. Not even close. Jeffcoat wasn't on the 6 game. Darby maybe 35k in savings for one stint, Hansen about 60k for two rounds, Rose about 40k, Lawler about 60k (we paid a considerable amount of this year's salary up front so it is just the prorated remainder), Miller about 80k for two rounds. So for the 6 game we have saved approximately 270k based on their reported salaries from 3DN. Keep in mind that I could not find any info on money up front on any of these players except Lawler, so the rest were prorated based on their full salary and that is unlikely. To get up over 300k some guys will need to finish their 2nd round of 6 game. -
For sure. It sucks the will right out of the defence when your OL are getting second level and Brady is in full stride coming through that hole. No one wants to stick in that hole, and in the cold guys will avoid it even more. In fairness, it's tough on the RB too. They tend to not have back 2 back big games in the playoffs.

For sure. Years ago in Junior ball i had to move up from DB to LBer on a cold November day, and ouch....it wasn't fun. You are tight from the cold and the hits are not easily absorbed.
