Every other season, everyone has had to work for their spot... last year, Ehlers, Burmi, Copp were all handed spots without much competition... there is no argument saying that this was NOT a departure from Chevy's development strategy. Ehlers - Jets had no choice really... Burmi and Copp were mistakes, Copp's development is suffering from playing in NHL too early imo. Burmi is a good replacement for Slater... not much else. As for arguing against signing Stempniak or giving him a PTO at no cost... the Jets played Thorburn on the 3rd line for half the season. Nothing else to say. Don't forget this is a whole different conversation if the Jets don't end up with 2nd overall... if we're picking 7-8th that's not much difference between picking 14-15th..

If I'm the Oilers, I would rather trade for Hamonic too... I could see Myers and Stafford getting 4th overall... but not sure if its worth it - would rather see Chevy trade up into the mid-1st round for Sergachev or Bean Way rather see Myers et al traded for Hamonic straight up. NYI is stocked with prospects... Stafford would be a nice fit for a year or two.
