Sure, why not. Whatever. WWE Network and Wrestlemania
The Unknown Poster replied to Goalie's topic in General Discussion
Hilarious that they push those geeks in such a bad angle at the same time they supposedly sign two of the best in the world. Hard to believe the same people made both decisions. Wouldnt surprise me to see cena at WrestleMania. He's a genetic freak. -
Yeah I would prefer not to hear rape-related chants. Although with the group mentality IT wouldn't surprise me. I Think track suit suit night is amusing and its fans having fun. The enlightened folk seem to view it as classless but i think they miss the point. It's people making light of the situation. It's not like there is a protest at the airport. i am a little surprised the jets didn't ban track suits though. But I guess Buffalo isn't chicago.
-
I'm generally indifferent to Kane. And if I was going I wouldn't wear a track suit. But I'm more annoyed at the "enlightened" people making such a big deal out of this. Fans are having fun. It's harmless. Who cares.

Prospect Report

Does he make the Jets next season? -
Don't skip any of the originals. if you only watch one prequel then Revenge it is. It's the only one where anything happens that impacts the rest of the saga really. But I mainain that the prequels ruin the originals. See them in order of release not number.
-
Just watch them in order of release. 4 5 6 1 2 3. And to be honest, 1 2 & 3 are actually generally irrelevant to the sage. You can miss them. Assuming you've picked up spoilers over the years, seeing the Prequels wont be earth shattering to you but if someone knew nothing about Star Wars, seeing the Prequels ruins the Originals. I watched all six just before 7 came out and I watched them in order (1-6). And the prequels are awful. A friend at worked wanted to show his kids the Saga to prepare for 7 and asked me the same question. I initially said "see them in order" the way Lucas supposedly intended. But when I watched them like that, I realised it 1-3 cuts the balls off of 4-6. See 4-6 as must see to prepare for 7. See 1-3 after that just for "fun".

Game 40 : Jets vs Predators - Requiem

Also, since Helle is still on his entry deal, if Pavs is the back up, the combined salary for goalies isnt bad. I think they Jets would look at it that way. Or its possible they see it as a position where they can save some money for a couple of years. -

$3.9, no? He has a contract so there are limited options if he cant be traded unless they play him as the starter simply because of what he makes. I dont see the Jets buying him out. I like Pavs. But I think all things being equal, I'd rather re-sign Hutch (to what would be a good deal after his play this season) as the backup to Helle and move Pavs. But easier to move on from Hutch than Pavs. -

Westwood summed it up pretty good in my opinion. He thinks they waive Hutch to the Moose and he likely clears. Pavs settles in as the back-up for his final season with the Jets. -
I cant really outwardly condone "tanking" but the Jets' just scream out as a team ripe for the tank. ie. Trade away Ladd & Buff for picks and prospects, dress rookies and youngsters, get a high weighted lottery pick etc (and/or some picks in the trade that can be combined to move up in the draft). And come out flying next season.

Outage outrage.

Close enough to a playoff spot to cause smart men to make stupid decisions and handcuff the team going forward. Those of us that pegged this season as a "one step back" year were correct. Hindsight being what it is, the Jets gambled on youth and lost, didnt addreess depth or goaltending issues. If this was the team we got from Atlanta, I'd be very happy for the future. Making the right decisions with our UFA's and getting us a good first round pick would also make me happy.

Good enough to miss the playoffs and get a middling draft pick. Perfect. -

That was a lousy PP. 2 shots 4 on 3? Come on... they had better opportunities at even strength. They have a lousy PP. Very vanilla and conservative. Same with their PK. Everyone else plays an aggressive PK which seems to work against the Jets. Our PK sits back. Our PP sits back. Im over the special teams issues. Whichever Assistant Coach is the Special Teams guy has long outlived his usefulness on this team. Time to move on. -

TNA debut on POP TV does 250,000. Not good. Drew 500 people in the arena. Not good. TNA is such a joke. It was a joke when it started and Russo gave it the **** N ASS acronym and its been a joke ever since. I actually considered bringing a TNA house show to Winnipeg back around 2006. I think that is when they really started believing their own hype and it was downhill from there. -

I liked the penalty Chiarot got last night. Two minutes for touching. -
Blake Wheeler gets the Shaft
The Unknown Poster replied to Goalie's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
This isnt like we're saying send nice-guy Thorburn. Blake Wheeler is a top scorer in the NHL. He's having a career year. He's arguably the best player on the team. He was a top prospect. He looks and acts like a top player. Maybe if the NHL sent the guy who is the most deserving from the team, they'd help create the widespread recognition of him in the general public of being a superstar to anyone that might think otherwise. -
From a Montreal Blogger: The Jets will probably be looking for a young forward and a high draft pick in order to let go of Ladd. Would an offer of Lars Eller and a 2nd or 3rd round pick be enough to acquire Ladd’s services? It remains to be seen, but that would be a typical Bergevin offer. as the Lars Eller experiment on the second line has been a total failure so far. The Great Dane has only 7 goals and 5 assists for 12 points in 40 games, on pace for a mere 24 points. That is just not good enough!

I like Drouin. Tampa is in an odd position. They will try to ramp up Drouin's value but when they tell teams how great he is, the reply will be "then why isnt he playing on your team right now?" Tampa has lowered Drouin's value and now the trade request is public, they wont get the offers they want. A bidding war could help them but Tampa is going to lose Stamkos too. They need to accept these two are going and get what they can in return.

Blake Wheeler gets the Shaft

Sure. But the All Star Game should be the All Stars that season. And that might mean a player who has one remarkable season (or half season). Didnt Numinen play in an All Star Game when the chosen Jet was injured? And everyone wanted him to go because he was such a quality D-man even though he didnt rack up points? Im okay with that. But it should be the best players that season. And no doubt Blake Wheeler is the most deserving Jet this season. Im not sure where Buff would rank but Im not even sure he'd be the first alternate after Wheeler if we were being completely fair. -
This documentary really deserves its own thread now. Im not sure if its possible to split it off completely or even from some chosen point. But when I suggested people watch it, I didnt realise it was going to explode the way it has. THis is "Making a Murderer", a docuseries on Netflix. It's taken on a life of its own in the public and media. You should watch it. It's riveting. Speaking of which, the two defense lawyers are considering a return: Strang hinted that he and Buting may return to Avery’s side to fight for a new trial that could exonerate Avery—again. “Jerry and I both have always been in touch with Steven, on and off,” said Strang, who now leads his own law firm, Strang Bradley LLC in Madison. Buting is a partner in Buting, Williams & Stilling, S.C., an hour away in Brookfield, Wisconsin. “It’s clear that he probably needs formal legal representation [for] the specific, concrete things that a lawyer can do in the coming weeks and months. “It would depend on what he wants, for one, and two, whether any future legal steps might involve examining whether Jerry and I dropped the ball in some way—whether we were inadequate or the legal term is ineffective, in some way. If some possible avenue of relief might be raising questions about our performance or criticizing our performance then we shouldn’t be the ones to do that. “He’s not going to be able to pay anybody,” he added. “Money isn’t in the equation. But what is, right now in our eyes, is, what’s best for Steven?” Strang readily admits he thinks it’s possible that Avery is guilty. But, he argues, “If our system worked on convicting people on maybes, then everybody could pat themselves on the back and go out and have a beer, convicting a man on a maybe. Our system isn’t supposed to work on convicting people on maybes. “In our system, if we live the values we profess, that means you get to keep your liberty,” he continued. “That means you don’t spend the rest of your life in a cage. Could he be guilty? Sure, he could. Do I think he was proven guilty? No. Do I think there’s a real strong chance he could be innocent? Yes. But that’s just me. I wasn’t asked to decide.”

Im pretty sure you said Ladd would re-sign just a week or two ago!
-
I would tend to agree. And I still think Ladd gets signed because he will give in a little to stay in Winnipeg long term. But if next season started and Ladd & Buff were replaced by Hamonic, Drouin +, I'd be content with that.

Game 41 : Jets @ Stars On Ice
The Unknown Poster replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I disagree. They received a couple of phantom calls the day after the complaining if I recall correctly. I recall watching a docuseries, probably one of the Winter Classic ones where they showed the officials after a game unwinding with some beers and talking about the game. They were basically patting each other on the back for "getting" a guy...not so much maliciously but in a "can you believe that guy? I told him dont ******* **** with me". They are human and emotional. When you're called into question, you wont be giving anyone benefits of the doubt. Reputation AND complaining.
