I think it's cute how badly the Riders want to be the Eskimos.

Isn't it the Bombers signing every player the Riders cut? Who have we signed lately from Edmonton? Besides Jones. I have no idea who he might bring in here. TBH, I don't want to much of a Eskimo presence on our team. Sewell is the only player they have that I would want.

With your roster from last year, You should be eyeing more than Sewell

Apparently they said it was the second lowest attendance since 1975.  The lowest being 1978.

    Just informing, not dissing

98(also here) was the lowest since 75.

There were 3 factors for that.

-brutality of the 91 game's weather had fans across that league saying fool me once..

     -major price increase

     -we sucked as a team....again

Those fans concerned about the weather only fooled themselves as it was record warmth that day.

I think another issue is Winnipeg wasn't given a lot of time to organize as the first **** show in Ottawa was to hold it that year.   Don't quote me on that as I remember reading it somewhere (could have been here or ourbombers)

I think Leggett is our best DBack though. Washington is very athletic but I'd like to see our best football player in that position. Leggett would be a great HB IMO

How can you say that given that he's never played more than a handful of snaps at HB?

The "IMO" suggests that its my opinion. I base that opinion off of what I think his skill set is. That's what this board is for correct? to form opinions and have discussions about our favorite sports team?

I understand it's your opinion. I was asking how you came to form that opinion, seen as how he's never played the position before.

didn't we recently have a conversation about this...

    Sorry, I missed the conversation...

I'm thinking that the conversation he's referring to is not football related.  It concerns "seen as how" versus "seeing as how".  Irregardless of that, I could care less.

I'm not sure I understand the Washington love. The guy can look brutal, especially against big receivers like Manny Arceneaux. Same with Randle, especially early in the season, he looked awful too. I'll have to watch Randle closer if he stays but there must be a reason Calgary let him go and it isn't because he was awesome. I'd keep the heat on Walters if I could, to get us more high quality players.

Speaking of Arceneaux, I'm tired of Moore. Yeah I know he was our leading receiver but that's not saying much. We need some big boys that can get after the ball and fight for it! Way too many pansies on our team that won't fight for a ball. That has to end. Sometimes the play is to throw it up for grabs and that's when our receivers should come up with the ball. No where near enough of that kind of fight on our receiving corp.

Can be said about any defensive back in the league. There isn't one DB in the league who never gets beat, especially with the wonky PI rules. DB is very much a position where you win some and you lose some and Washington is a damned good player.

Hes "a damned good player" the same way that we move on from johnson not too long ago. this season he was bad. Real bad. Liability bad.

Can he bounce back? Maybe. Can we find a bigger, better DB? Probably.

I agree. I've been a washington fan. But this year he was out classed a lot unfortunately. I hope we resign him but bring in a lot of competition to TC for that spot.

Which one of our DBs didn't get beaten badly at times? Even Johnny Adams who everyone is raving about this year had some games where he got beaten and outclassed. I think the biggest thing holding back the secondary was the lack of a pass rush from anyone not named Westerman.

I think instead of scouting, we should change everybody's last name on the D-line to Westerman.  Greg Westerman, Nate Westerman, Jake Westerman, Bryant Westerman Jr

Chappy would be ok but not my first choice. Ignores the run game too much. I don't like that and see that as a reason Harris may turn us down and I'd like to see Harris as our rb.

Now you've done it. Chapdelaine is assured to be here, and you will have no one to blame but yourself.

If I had that power, Reinbold would have been the coach and GM of the Riders since 1999 and Mike Kelly would be running the Stamps, while Jim Daley ran the Eskimos.

and Joe Mack running the ALS

    CFL News @CFL_News

.@SUNMitchell on @hustlerlawless: "If Chris Jones is offered it (#Riders HC/GM), he's gone in a heartbeat to Regina." #CFL #Esks

If this happens, it will be a really bad new for the Bombers.

Not any worse then it is now. Except he'd be a rookie GM and have more on his plate, and on a team with less talent.

Jones have the Bombers numbers over the years since he became a DC in 2003, the only he hasn't win in a year was in 2007.

The Bombers only won once against Chris Jones Def since 2010. Here's his record vs the Bombers.

It will be huge since we will be playing the Riders 3x in a year.

    2003 - MTL DC  2-0

    2004 - MTL DC  2-0

    2005 - MTL DC  1-1

    2006 - MTL DC  2-1

    2007 - MTL DC  0-3

    2008 - CGY DC  1-1

    2009 - CGY DC  1-1

    2010 - CGY DC/Asst.HC/Asst.DirofPP  2-0

    2011 - CGY DC/Asst.HC/Asst.DirofPP  2-0

    2012 - TOR DC/Asst.HC/Asst.GM  2-1

    2013 - TOR DC/Asst.HC/Asst.GM  3-0

    2014 – EDM HC/DC  2-0

    2015 - EDM HC/DC  2-0

And which of those teams was he rebuilding by himself?

Jones has experience in personell and scouting. He will be a rookie in title only. And for sure, he will hire his assistants as well.

Rookie in Title only, and the fact that he's never been a GM before. But besides that he won't be a rookie.....?

And again, he's never had to deal with the mess SSK is in right now. I'm not saying he's going to fail. I'm just saying it's hard to believe he's going to turn them into a power house by July 2016.

Riders dont need a powerhouse by 2016.  They'll need improvement in 2016 with becoming a powerhouse in 2017

Taman, the Ottawa dispersal really helped him, in 2007 they started 4 nationals on the line, gave up the fewest sacks in the league and were coached by Bob Willy. We could start Roberts and 4 international receivers, that's still how you build a championship team. We had Brown on the dline and a national at safety. That team was probably better than the 2001 version that went 14 - 4.

Haha oh my stars you actually said that... I don't think you remember how hit or miss the offense was in 2007, or how dominant the defense was on that 2001 team. 2007 was bolstered bigtime by Gauthier being one of the better tackles in the league and a canadian. They paid a big price to get that guy too don't forget. Picard was still good back then, Andrew Greene was really the unsung hero there too. Guy was a real quality vet on the interior. Rounded it out with Dan Goodspeed at the other tackle who in his day was a good american tackle.  2007 was also a long time ago, the CFL has changed Canadians are playing more and more skill positions and playing them better and better. You don't need to put all your canadians on the OL. It's not the most efficient use of the roster when you don't have those quality veterans to fill the positions.

As much as we dislike Bucknor he's still playing maybe the easiest position to hide a Canadian in, much moreso than safety. The additional designated imports make a rotation on the defense a very viable option as well which many teams are taking advantage of. The idea that you MUST use as many canadians on the offensive line is outdated thinking. The key is you must have as many good canadians as possible and where they specifically play doesn't really matter as long as they can play. Right now we don't have enough Canadians who are simply good enough players.

2001 was all kind of special.  Should have swept the awards that year.
