Yes, thats right, my mistake. The second to last one closed in 1979. The very last one up in Dauphin stayed open til '89.
-
Obviously not, since virtually all of the residential schools in Manitoba were close by 1970, with the last ones closing in Winnipeg 1975 and The Pas in 1979. Sent right back out into the same **** situation they came up in and getting the same results? How cyclical. You don't say. Indigenous people account for only 5% of our countries population but over 20% of our homicide victims. They are also 8 times more likely to be the suspect of a homicide than a non-indigenous person. If the 'PC crowd' is going to bat for indigenous peoples it's because they are disproportionately suffering in our legal system. Unless anyone has the audacity to suggest Natives choose to be more violent and choose to be victims of violent crime? Honestly, who would choose that if they were given the option? There must be more to it than personal accountability alone, otherwise the numbers speak for themselves (black and white, right and wrong, more murderous vs less murderous...) Gang related homicides account for nearly 1/4 of all homicides in Canada. Where do gangs form? Inner city/urban areas. Who lives in the inner city? Poor and colored folk. Community outreach and education to deter disadvantaged youth from joining gangs could bring these numbers way down. Rehabilitation unfortunately tends to come too late (once they've been institutionalized and are 'in the system'), we need to keep people from joining gangs. But that costs money and political influence. If you're a politician that wants to help inner city youth you better not be counting on many rural and suburban voters coming out to support you.

I'm finding it harder to argue with two people at once LMAO

I stand by what I said. "I empathize with these people, but..." then you call them "scum" and say "you don't give a crap" how does that not amount to '**** em'? Explain to me, I'm here to listen and talk. If you're not then you know where the ignore function is. And don't go editing the post again F you's aside (and make no mistake, F you too) sorry for what you may have had to endure in your time at the residential school. I know some were worse than others but it's a black mark on Canadian history and it's so recent. It's a shame that there are so many of us who are only hearing about them now. I certainly never heard about it in school in the 90s. I'm wondering if the hardliners feel this way about ALL crime, and not just murder. ie. a drug dealer is a drug dealer, no matter the circumstances surrounding their crimes, theft is theft no matter who is stealing from who and why, so on....

Laine goes coast to coast on his second of the night

I have a plan. Put me in a cage with a leopard. If it eats my face, then your paranoid bullshit is legit. To my friends, family, I love you passionately. I'm in the ICU fighting complications related to having your face eaten by leopards. President Trump fight the hood fight!

LOL at the girls barely containing their laughter as the air got sucked out of the room.

Just thought it was worth quoting Especially at a time our Premiere says it "doesn't bother (him) at all" that about 1/4 of the teachers in this province routinely pay out of pocket for necessary classroom supplies. I'm a property owner, so I'll be enjoying the tax cut (not to the tune of 8k annually like our dear Premiere)... but I'd rather it wasn't coming at the expense of students and teachers.

This right here is the most difficult factor, and sadly is where race works itself into the equation. WARNING TO ALL READERS: this is going to sound preachy and pertains to white privilege. If that triggers you, you're probably white and privileged! Also I acknowledge I'm super lily white and live comfortably, so this is an easy opinion for me to have (it's my...privilege?) Who generally tends to be better off almost everywhere at every point in history? White folks. Who tends to be poorer and in more dire circumstances everywhere at any point in the last 300 or so years? Colored folk. In a 300 year foot race, white folk have been given about a 250 year head start. Our neighborhoods are often comfortable and full of amenities, our schools are usually funded adequately and our streets are more or less safe enough to let our kids outside on their own. Often we inherit property or wealth that our parents inherited from their parents who possibly inherited theirs and so on down the line... whereas other communities faced myriad obstacles for generations, be it slavery, forced displacement and relocation, families broken and separated as a means of assimilation (hello residential schools), some weren't allowed to own property or businesses or grow certain crops... never mind open hatred and hostility over the color of their skin, something they can not control, hide or change even if they wanted to (Michael Jackson notwithstanding). When we say society isn't fair it's because it was designed that way. The United States abolished slavery, ghettoized black and brown folk, and made their private prisons turn profits. A few decades of brutal over-policing in underfunded and oft-neglected communities and the US can continue churning out slave labor in the 21st century with the best of them. Canada has it's checkered past, too. You should see the sixty year olds who break down in tears at the T&R dialogues over things that were happening in their own neighborhoods when they were kids, and they say they had no idea. Maybe they didn't, I don't know. Probably nobody cared. I hope the 'maybe if they had two loving parents' crowd recognizes that in our communities (within our lifetime for some of us), children were literally being taken away from their two loving parents - legally, by the government - so that they may be pacified and civilized, and that it had been happening for generations. Anthropologists of the future will not look upon us kindly. Anyways respect to all those that made it this far. Good day to yous

New date for the Rage Against The Machine x Run The Jewels concert... May 11, 2022... **** YOU COVID

Haha we should create an unpopular opinion font. We could all get some use out of it now and again

Has Wheeler missed 5 games in his entire career? Will for sure be tuning in to see how everyone steps up.

"I empathize with these people, but **** em" is what I read. I'm guessing you haven't ever attended or listened to any Truth and Reconciliation dialogues. You should. You live in a black and white world of right and wrong that has never existed.

Travis Rudolph sounds like he was raised by two loving parents. Here is a pic of his dad Darryl, taking a break from his loving wife children and grandchildren (neglecting them, you could say) to answer a few questions about his son. The news reports his dad was shot to death. True, but it wasn't murder, it was an accidental discharge. THAT'S tragic. Sometimes, unfortunately, 2 loving parents can make all the right decisions and their kid can still grow up to make the wrong decisions. Hugs and bedtime stories are a great start, but the world around you and your unique experiences as an individual shape who you become. Once your kids hit public school... you are longer the sole influence if your kid's life. Just wait til they're on social media! Not saying this is what anyone was implying... but anyone who thinks single parents can't sacrifice for their kids, preach hard work, instill respect or otherwise raise their kids properly is out to lunch. Plenty of single parents or children of single parents,. possibly even on this board.... who would have a few things to say about that.

So that we can criticize the league for releasing a statement that essentially says nothing!
-
We still beat them in 1958 and we did it again in 2019. Do they give out trophies for 27 yard runs?
-
This is why I only buy every third or fourth installment. I get to be wowed by all the 'new changes' only to play the same old franchise mode with the same old custom stadiums they had 10 years ago.
-
She had an eating disorder 20 years ago so now doesn't deserve to act? What are you actually saying here?
-
Home? It already happened with TJ Jones, an instant National star the league would have loved to have. There is life after football, even for guy's that didn't spend a couple seasons in the NFL. Rumor has it a lot of these guys went to college. Like it or not the CFL is the 'last chance league' for many Americans and if we want them to come play we need to give them what entices them to come North. What you're really mad about it players being given the best chance they can get to make money (the whole reason they are here, not out of the kindness of their hearts but or their burning desire for the game, its a business, you know this) The pandemic probably has a more to do with where we are at right now than player movement does.
-
Still time but yikes...
-
What are you guys saying the league should do about 1 years contracts? Mandatory 2 minimum length contracts? Banning 1 year contracts? What about 1 year extensions? Risky.... We won't be able to attract the players that are willing to come 'test the waters' on 1 year contracts or try to show off their talents for an NFL shot. Pretending the league has all this leverage is silly. We need the players, and the players want the option to sign 1 year deals. You know what happens when the CFL starts to dictate minimum length contracts and maximum earning potential? Players won't even bother. TJ Jones, anyone?

Breaux in Hamilton, Mitchell in Winnipeg... there will be more quality Americans opting to move on, I fear

Not enough of this happening anywhere, at any level. A lot of noise opposing it, though.

When did the point of taking a 20% cut become 'hurting people'
-
Since then he had a solid bounce back year with Hamilton doing both punting and kicking duties and going 100% in the playoffs. Is that not going out and doing your job(s)? Whats a guy gotta do? Not to knit pick but do you think the bombers asked him to make those videos? Marketing and all that?
