Luke was one of my childhood heroes, right up there with Michaelangelo, He-Man and Lion-O... so I was pretty sad to watch him go without getting to see him really wield a lightsaber one last time... I left the theater feeling a bit disappointed, even. However, showing up in an X-Wing and force-crushing AT-ATs into scrap metal is best left for the video games. The clever distraction, leveraging Kylo's fear of what the oh-so legendary Luke Skywalker could do against him, was the slick Jedi move to make. It's fantastic that both the audience's and Kylo's expectations of Luke allowed the force ghost twist to work and surprise a lot of people. We all expected fireworks, and when the AT-ATs were blasting away we thought that's what we were getting... instead, as Johnzo pointed out, we get the nod to the original trilogy with the master sacrificing himself for the apprentice as they flee aboard the Falcon. Right now, Rey has about as much Jedi training as Luke did at this point of his adventure, but no Yoda to train her. I'm eager to see how she's going to develop her skills enough to fill Luke's shoes as galactic hero and living legend. Supposedly she swiped the codexes? I didn't see that... It was a fun movie. Benicio was great but I'd have traded him for an 80 year old Billy Dee Williams in a heart beat. Space Leia was goofy but whatever, it's still better than Ewoks pwning storm troopers Home Alone style or Anakin losing his epic final duel because "higher ground"

Around The League: 2018 Offseason
I don't honestly believe the deal would have happened if Popp and co. didn't have an understanding with Franklin already. However, I recall something about BC dangling Reilly in front of the Bombers prior to reaching FA without allowing us to speak with him/his agent first... so I suppose it's possible Popp is rolling the dice without making a gentleman's agreement first... which would be very foolish as Sask does seem like the appropriate place for Franklin to wind up.

The poll on CFL.ca right now asks "Will James Franklin play for the Argos in 2018?" 91% of the fans say no. I bet about 90% of the vote is desperate Rider fans. We will find out soon enough.

Dry your eyes, Bono. The Riders aren't going anywhere. It's only 15k in damages dontcha know.

Around The League: 2018 Offseason
Whoa another CFL insider! Every article says they are still assessing damages but you already know it was 15k! Man these rider fans really have their fingers on the pulse.

Keep your eyes peeled. Last November I snagged a like-new Ibanez hollow bodied 5-string acoustic-electric bass with a hard case (shag carpet interior!) on Kijiji for $400 (might have been $450). Had to drive an hour to pick it up but it was worth it. It's great for practicing unplugged but as soon as someone is rocking out on their 6-string acoustic I get drowned out and need to plug in again. It just doesn't kick out the acoustic sound like I had hoped. I'm convinced only a big stand-up bass could be heard around a campfire.

Around The League: 2018 Offseason
Apparently he was injured in 1990 and served as an assistant coach for the Florida Gators before resuming his playing career in '91. His coaching roots run deep it would seem.

I just saw Kerwin Bell's name being tossed around on twitter as a candidate for HC in Montreal... he and Kavis Reed were teammates years ago.

When do we fire Richie Hall?
Isn't one of our former HC's famously quoted as saying every position you start a rookie at will cost you a win? There is probably a lot of truth to this.
-
When do we fire Richie Hall?
...what's so funny? Roc Carmichael. Brandon Alexander. Brian Walker. All CFL rookies. All played in the secondary. All took turns giving up big plays.
-
When do we fire Richie Hall?
Out of any of our players in our secondary I'd say Loffler is likely the 'worst' in coverage, but he brings a certain presence to the field that makes up for a lot of that (passport, too). Carmichael was victimized early in the season which did nothing to help our passing yards against stats. Tried and tested veterans like Randle and Heath were not the culprits; more likely it's the rookies in the secondary, a passive coordinator, and a middling pass rush that are to blame.

I wonder if that has ever worked for anyone. I bet that in general, twitter does more harm than good for players that use it. Note that I haven't seen the tweets.

CFL Draft 2018
Just jokes. The whole Addison Richards debacle will always stick out like a sore thumb for a lot of fans (and to a lesser extent Brendan Morgan and Garrett Waggoner), but overall it seems like he drafts really well. A good number of Walters' draft picks are still making an impact in the CFL (Derek Jones, Jesse Briggs, Ettore Lattanzio), not to mention our Canadian hogs, All-Star Taylor Loffler, and the emerging talent in Trent Corney. If not for a couple suspect picks (and they were suspect at the time) he'd be an A++ draft manager. I've got no major complaints, but what kind of Bomber fan would I be if I didn't ***** and moan about the past from time to time?

CFL Draft 2018
Walters is a savvy GM, I have faith he can secure a trade that will allow us to accomplish both.

When do we fire Richie Hall?
I'd take Tim Burke back as DC. I don't think anyone can question his abilities as a defensive coordinator. We're a few years removed from the season of new lows... surely he's snapped out of his thousand yard stare and gotten his head back in the game by now. Would he want to try and resurrect his career here, though? Assuming he even wants to? I'm actually a little surprised he hasn't resurfaced yet.
