  1. well I would assume the logic is that they become free agents right away and you can just sign them back.

seems like a risky play. You're leaving Henoc unsigned all the way up until the draft and then counting on him signing back in Winnipeg based on what? A promise? Even though you were willing to gamble on his future with the team? I would lock him up now and leave the gambles for the less important players.

  2. Which NI would come off for Lucas?  Maybe Green, but we are really low on special teamers to cover kicks, and Thomas or Lucas can't really fill that role.

Also have some doubt that they'd toss Woods in there right away.  We have Washington who can do some punts, Denmark too is a bit less explosive but he'll catch the punt.

Well we could conceivably take off Etienne or Kohlert as Woods would then be filling a backup receiver role.

But I agree, probably won't shake down that way.

  3. But you know that's not the reason he's not playing... if you have a ratio-breaking LT, you play the guy and then just protect him...  I mean seriously look at the league - the NI talent left unprotected is pretty substantial - we have so few key NI guys that... well, why worry.

Muamba, Muamba, Swiston, Pencer, Kohlert, Watson, Etienne....  ?  Maybe?  And really no one is picking Etienne and Kohlert

I mean SK has 6 legit NI OL...  with Neufeld on 9 game and Vonk on PR

Montreal can't hide all their guys... especially with Edem and Adebayo on the roster now.  Their OL will be exposed.

    You'd leave Greaves unprotected?

Also, pretty sure we can only protect 6, not 7.

And what has Matt Vonk done to be considered a "legit NI OL", in your eyes?

  4. would not surprise me in the least if Poblah wasn't protected.

what is the contract status of some of the more notable NI players on this team anyway? I would suspect that guys who have expiring deals are likely to be left unsigned until after the expansion draft if possibe.

Pontbriand, Renaud, H. Muamba, Etienne, Labbe, and Kowalczuk are all in their final year.

There are probably more but those 6 are for sure.

  5. To all those who are thinking Hall hasn't made enough of an impact this year ... he leads the league in tackles for a loss with 4 through 2 games. On top of that, just to show you how dominant that is ... there are 5 teams with 4 or less TOTAL.

    Good stat

  6. I would hope after three years Goltz should be ready!

Based on what?  Is three a magical number that determines a QB is ready?  Have you done research to suggest 3 years is the maximum amount of time it should take a QB to develop?  Tate got five years!

Besides, it's more like 2.5 years, and even that was as the #3 or #4 QB.  Not getting a whole lot of reps.  Like I said, Pierce will go down, Goltz will get his chance.  Why rush it?  How has that worked out for us in the past?

  7. Goltz just isn't ready to take the job yet, IMO.  Might as well let him get some good time in as the backup before Pierce is inevitably injured again and Goltz is thrown into the fire.

For all the people clamouring to sit or cut Pierce, just remember who you're talking about... Goltz IS going to get his shot this year.  It's just a matter of when, and I prefer to keep him on the bench just a little longer.

  8. I can't tell if its Crowton or Pierce's fault for our increasingly conservative playcalling as the game goes on ...

I mean Pierce being in for the last two plays of the 1st half and calling two running plays?  Weird.  Blah blah...

Either way, if Elliott was here, we would be a major contender.  As it is, we're waiting for Buck to get hurt.

If Elliott was here we'd be 0-2.

  9. Everyone who knows the CFL game well knows the linebacker spot Hefney plays with Calgary is not a typical linebacker. Yes he is closer to the LOS, but he still has about 95% of the responsibilities of anyone in the secondary. Hefney with a lot of tackles IS NOT an indicator he played well, and as Mike mentioned, he got taken to school on the TD he was burnt for.

Tackles can be read any way you want.  Doesn't mean he was good but it also doesn't mean he was bad.  Gotta look at it on a play-by-play basis to truly know.

Chip Cox racks up big tackle numbers at SAM every year and he's one of the best there is.

  10. Historically early in the season they say the edge goes to the defence. They react to a situation while the offence is expected to execute a designed play relying on critical timing and decision making. Let's revisit this topic when teams have had the opportunity to "tune up" their offence.

Historically maybe, but watching the games of week 1 shows that is not the case at all this year.

  11. I guess one game in does add a year to your vet status? Some carrier back ups an ST guys, Douglas hanging on and injured all last year. I stand corrected...not.

Four rookies made the roster out of training camp, that's about as little turnover as you will ever see in the CFL.  But I wouldn't expect you to actually, you know, look at facts or anything.

  12. Bombers need to run-the-frigging-ball. Lots. if they can't or won't then they deserve the loss that will come as a result.

Everyone is saying that but I'm not sure I agree.  The Als are gearing up against the run and daring the Bombers to pass it.  So to me, trying to run it is a fool's errand.  They need to execute in the passing game because that's where the opportunities will be.  Until they can execute the passing game, it will be the same old story every week.
