Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Atomic replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well sure but the point is about how we could get more strong American players starting on offence and defence - we are essentially giving up 2.5 American starters by starting 9 Canadians and ignoring the Nationalized American rule. We could get Adams on the field full time, more Brian Cole, and start an American RB just by using the rules available to us. And there's no downside! -

We could have a core 6 of nationals: Demski, Wolitarsky, Neufeld, Kolankowski, Dobson, Stanley Bryant (nationalized) Then you use Kramdi as a starter on defence but name him a designated national, meaning he can be replaced by a nationalized American for 25 plays. Name Kyrie Wilson a Designated Nationalized American and he is able to come in for those 25 plays. When Kramdi is in, B.Cole plays WLB, but when Kramdi comes out, Cole shifts over to SLB and Wilson plays WLB. That makes seven national starters with one being able to be replaced for 25 plays a game. So you need one more national starter. This could either be Ford at CB which allows you to start an American at RB, or you could use Augustine at RB, allowing you to start an American at corner. In either case you have four Americans starting on the DL. The roster really could be quite a bit better without even changing who is dressed, or by adding one stud American RB (if we bothered to bring one in). We could even decide to pull out Kolankowski and start an American C if we really wanted to, without much issue. -

I suspect we finish somewhere in the range of 8-10 to 11-7, then lose some bodies to retirement in the offseason which will be easily replaced through the massive CFL free agent market. It's a transitional year, not a year of falling off a cliff. In my opinion, of course... -

I wonder if we see Jones come on as a DI and we go with Wilson-Bighill-Cole in the LB corps? I don't know why else we would sign Jones right as Bighill is getting healthy. -
Haven't seen any numbers but judging by Ticketmaster it will be 31k+ but likely short of a sellout
-
Yep we don't make the Grey Cup without Gauthier making that play, that was huge

Sit Thomas, start Fox and Adams on the inside, rotate them with Woods and Schmekel, and bring Hubert onto the roster as the 3rd/emergency DE. Really seems like a no brainer given the fact we have a surplus of Canadian starters. Sit Hubert and bring Thomas back on when Garbutt is healthy.

I expect we'll see a lot of Cole and Adams even if they aren't listed as starters.

No he didn't lol. His record heading into 2019 was 45-45. That's not remotely similar! -

That 22-50 record as a head coach doesn't look too good. But his offenses as an OC have always been near the top of the league -

Always liked Lapo as an OC... Maybe a little conservative but his play designs are excellent... Dreadful head coach however -

Didn't realize BC had signed Travis Fulgham ... That's a pretty big pickup, I remember him being in my NFL fantasy lineup briefly a couple years ago. He got a big opportunity with the Eagles when several receivers in front of him got injured and he played well. He never really got another chance though. I think he could be a sneaky big acquisition for BC. -

It should be Shania Twain every year -
I think our offence is going to be outstanding. Schoen, Lawler, Demski, Oliveira.... No one can match those weapons.

Honestly, keeping 3 American DT, seeing the progression of Schmekel, AND keeping Kyle Samson signals to me that Jake's role will be minimal this season and something like a retirement tour. I don't expect him to see the field often.

I don't know how to do percentages. But I'm pretty good at word problems. If we divide our pizza into ten slices, four slices are on the team, one slice is on the practice roster, one is on the suspended list, and four slices were eaten by your friends. -

4 - OL Gabe Wallace, WR Kevens Clercius, RB/FB Michael Chris-Ike, DL Kyle Samson. That's all four second round picks. DE Owen Hubert made the practice roster. He was our 8th round pick . They also put Ian Leroux on the suspended list as he is going back to school. He is probably our next long snapper after Benson retires. -

Is it time to start talking about the Kevens Clercius factor? -

My thoughts upon reflection: Karamoko makes the active roster out of TC for the first time in 3 years, man that guy has put in some work Patrick Rogers was apparently good enough to stick around for all 3 weeks of camp but not good enough to dress in a preseason game, Patrick Rogers we hardly knew ye Rosery and McCarthy being cut are both disappointing to me (I think McCarthy can go back to school though) I feel like Ayers and Adams both made the team based on their performances in the preseason games - good example of seizing the few opportunities that were out there Lofton better be looking over his shoulder at the 3 big American hogs on the PR waiting to take his spot Chris Smith must be pretty damn injured because that cut is totally baffling Someone on the Bombers staff loves Myron Mitchell Let's find a punter to put on the PR, shall we?
