Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
JuranBoldenRules replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The territorial exemption had its day. Previously teams had to "draft" players in their territory in a round prior to the draft of college players. Other junior players were free agents. In modern times, it makes little sense for Canadian players to be entering the league directly through multiple channels, they should all be subject to the draft. It just isn't equitable. Imagine if the Jets could only claim players from the Wheat Kings, while the Leafs had access to all the OHL teams in Southern Ontario, the Canucks had all the WHL teams in BC, but everyone could draft players from the CIS and NCAA. That's about as absurd as the current CFL system for NI's. The Bombers work with the Bisons, why aren't they entitled to their players too? That argument holds little water for me. -

Key point. Goodrich is as good of a prospect as Demski in terms of talent. He could be a very good CFL player.I like JFG and Kohlert, I don't think Watson has enough good plays left in him to be a main target. Probably the best territorial exemption we've had a chance at since I can remember.Equivalent of an additional first rounder in the CFL Draft, in my opinion. The fellows whose knowledge I defer to because they are infinitely more familiar with amateur football in this province said he was the second best receiving talent to come out of Manitoba behind Demski. How much of that is hyperbole? Couldn't say, but I certainly would not be in a position to argue with them. So it certainly sounds like we'd potentially be landing the equivalent of a free first round pick if we pulled something like that off. But he's not on our roster yet. It's true. Demski was a running back though. Switched to slot to get him on the field cause Coombs took the job at U of M. Both naturally gifted football players, Demski is only in year 2 as a full-time receiver. Not exactly sure what happened with Goodrich at U of M, but worked out better for the Bombers that he didn't last and wasn't draft eligible. -

Bombers Make 7 Roster Changes vs Stamps

I liked all 3 of the DL. Hickman has a really good motor, looks like he can play inside and outside like Turner. Couple plays he made just through sheer hustle, never quits. Booker's the best DE we've put on the field this season. Marshall runs hard, big dude. -
Bob Young Comments on CFL Officiating - Not Good Enough

That's giving way too much responsibility to officials who quite honestly are already overwhelmed. At what point does a penalty affect the result of the play or not (after yards gained provision already exists)? It's the slipperiest of slopes IMO and I don't think many coaches or GM's would go for it. -
Willy, Bellefeuille, this one is on you guys!

Yup.. Threats of violence always make your point more valid.. Smh. No - thats more frustration I get what he's saying. It can be infuriating when a 'fan' only see's what they want to see. Willy had all kinds of time to throw, he had receivers open. It was hilarious, on the telecast, Suitor tried to make a point that all the receivers were covered. The 'short' receiver was about 6 yards underneath the coverage, but of course Suits was on a roll so he said he was 'covered'. About 10 minutes of game time after that, Beck got the snap, turned, and fired a dart to Gore I believe it was, who was 'wide open' just like the bomber receiver was above, only the bomber defender was about 3 yards off him. It's amazing all the apologists there are for Drew 'freakin' Willy. At least more fans are finally starting to see what I've been seeing since mid-August. He hasn't nearly been good enough, and tonight was his worst start yet (but low an behold he finally threw another TD pass). But yeah, I get his frustration. Unless you know what the read progression is on the play that is called, it is impossible to say "he had receivers open." Probably the biggest fallacy in football from a fans point of view, when everyone goes "hey, that guy is open!" Ya, but it's the QB's 6th read, and the by the time the ball gets to him the DB or LB is going to completely fill in the "opening" most of the time. About as dumb as the people who yell "shoot" all the time on the powerplay at a hockey game. Are you a pro Qb? Juran, I'll ask you then you seem to 'know your stuff'. Explain to me how our second stringer, Brian Brohm, and our third stringers, Robert Marve, can, with the same receivers, same oline, and same OC, and same play calling, make plays, and Willy can't? This is a legit question 'cause I definitely don't have a clue. Thanks in advance Willy had a bad game. Doesn't change the point of my other^ post, we can't know if he had receivers "open" or not because we don't know what he was looking at before or during the play. Unless you have access to the coaches film it's a complete assumption to make watching on TV or from the stands. BC has a great secondary, that's part of it. Our scheme with Willy doesn't move him around a lot. Hard for us to say if that is Bellefeuille's fault, Willy's fault (in terms of him preferring to take a straight drop) or a combination. Our scheme for Brohm vs Calgary moved him and the pocket around a lot, even though he isn't a "mobile" QB. Did he "make plays?" I wouldn't say he did anything special. He was steady, but it was pretty obvious that the game was simplified for him with the rollouts which essentially shorten the field, make throws and reads a little quicker. Marve was just blind luck IMO, and even at that he completed 50% of his passes while continually putting the ball in harms way. Why they don't do for Willy what they did for Brohm (it sure worked) is my question. -

That says everything you need to know about how teams feel about the Riders without Durant "we can beat them with our backups" Cornish is just that real good mix of speed and power. He's big and strong and has good enough balance he can run through tackles but he's also fast enough to break some big runs if he gets a hole. If you can draw up the kind of running back every team wants to have that's the guy there. They just don't want Brackenridge to hurt JonJon before the playoffs. Brackenridge is still playing? Haven't noticed him much.

Yep, BC didn't cover our receivers or anything like that.
-
As long as he's not stealing them like our QB from last year.
-
Not old enough to remember CFL Warren Moon, but NFL Warren Moon sure as hell wasn't a scrambling QB, more like a good version of Henry Burris. Dunigan wouldn't be a scrambling QB in my mind either.
-
facepalm statemetn of the year. Didn't complete 60% of his passes until he was 34 years old. Career QB rating of 84. If Steven Jyles played for 23 seasons, he'd have the passing yards record too.
-
Doug Flutie is the greatest QB and player the CFL has ever had.............. not a pocket QB. Warren Moon, Jackie Parker, Damon Allen, Russ Jackson, I can go all day, were not pocket QB's. Damon Allen was a pretty average QB who lasted a long time. Flutie could throw from the pocket if defense's forced him to. That's the important distinction. Guys can be good as scramblers, but if teams fan their ends and force him to stay in the pocket, can he make the throws? Collaros hasn't shown that he can yet IMO, whenever he's been forced to stay in the pocket he has struggled significantly. Scrambling QB's who can't pass are the easiest ones to stop, cause all a defense has to do is be patient and force him to make throws, if he can't make them his team is SOL.

The entire offense would have had a much easier time with a back who could have put us into 2nd and 5 or 6 consistently vs getting nothing on most of his carries and the odd 40 yard burst. Teams have literally been teeing off on our offensive line and Willy because we had no running threat, and Grigsby didn't make anyone second guess a blitz cause all they had to do was make contact to get him down, he couldn't make anyone miss or fight through contact so literally no threat to get past that first wave on a blitz. IMO, we probably win 2-3 more games with a running threat like Cotton was last night.
-
To be honest I don't know if he was good or lucky on that completion he made on that "Houdini" play. If I had my druthers I would have been very happy with him throwing the ball out of bounds on that kind of play because typically that throw would end up as a pick. That one and about 3 more. I hope the people who are happy with his reckless play when it works aren't the ones jumping on his back when it doesn't, but we know how that goes.

Kohlert looks like an impact Canadian to me.

Having a running back who actually understands how to find the gaps in zone blocking and get a few yards on his own was a nice change of pace. Too bad we were out of the playoff running when we made that change, could have been a much different season offensively and a much simpler game for our QB had the change been made early in the season.
-
Brohm looked real good to me, and he looks better each time he plays. It's too bad he's done for the season. Marve looked like a guy who is a home run hitter, the type who will strikeout a ton too. Tonight he hit a couple home runs, but some of those throws...

TSN change means no CFL broadcast
JuranBoldenRules replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I have a cell phone with MTS, and tried to switch to their TV/internet when I moved recently, but their customer service was just awful. No installations after 4 PM, nothing on weekends, didn't seem to care too much when we said that the fact that they had no flexibility to work evenings meant they wouldn't get $150 a month from us. That's why I'm still with Shaw, although they aren't much better. Would be nice to have some competition in tv/internet, seems like MTS and Shaw treat us like we need them more than they need us as customers. MTS does have all TSN's in their basic package, but no Sportsnet or other sports channels, and I'd rather have some variety than 5 TSN channels which usually have no more than 2 different events/programs on at once. -
So throw it away before the ball is snapped?
-
Who cares? Grigsby was so far below average it is basically inconsequential.

There's almost no private or public organization that allows free media access to their employees. They appoint a spokesperson. I'm sure all of the leaders in the world are just terrible and weak. I could be terminated from my job if I spoke to the media without clearing it through administrators, and chances are if I didn't have a specific reason to talk to the media, the administrators would handle it. There is nothing wrong with the Bombers media policy. The media have incredible access to the players, Walters, Miller and O'Shea. When Mike Kelly tried to change the media policy and allow access to co-ordinators on specific days during the week, the media railed against that, they simply want what they cannot have, all of the time.

Kelly benched instead of Romby
JuranBoldenRules replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That's part of the reason to run a slow methodical offense. Allows our defense to rest and keeps the other teams offense off the field. Problem is when we run this type of offense, we don't score. And it doesn't give the defense much of a rest if the offense isn't getting first downs in any case. Getting out of the huddle quicker or running no huddle doesn't necessarily take up less time either, just gives the opposing defense less time and our offense more time to adjust pre-snap. -

This is all Marcel thinking he has a big play offence. After 3 quarters of 2 and outs again, they'll string together some 9 play drives just in time to run out of time. Complete and utter BS. I've said time and time again, this offense looks much more proficient when they are running an up tempo three minute offense .. they consistently move the chains and put pressure on opposing defenses .. I'm not sure why it takes us 57 minutes before we start to move with urgency .. Agree fully. Bellefeuille doesn't seem to care much about tempo, we've gotta be one of the slowest teams between plays, but tossing in some no huddle and controlling the pace of the game is something that could mask some of the deficiencies personnel-wise.
