  1. I don't believe we should overrate Bass and toss a guy like Randle under the bus based on what we've seen. Randle is playing a coverage position. Other than one cover zero blitz where our safety and MLB did not do anything to disrupt Durant, Randle had a clean game. The Riders run game primarily attacked the weak-side of our defense with stretch plays, and Bass didn't really stand up to it. The DL also had a lot of trouble holding their gaps which shift on those stretch plays. Once the Riders started trying to run between the tackles, the run game fizzled out.
  2. On Demski's run too, gave him about 20 extra yards.
  3. The Bombers scored a TD on the drive resulting from the called back return, so no impact on the score.
  4. Anderson got destroyed by a down block on the huge run off a stretch play by Messam. If he gets in his gap on that stretch play that run can't happen. That's the kind of stuff that was happening all night. He got close to Glenn once and forced a bad throw, but had a really bad night overall.
  5. The injured Canadians will absolutely gut them. They have no replacements.
  6. source? The Roughriders.
  7. Probably likes to see how the Riders attack the different coverage shells, what blocking schemes they are using and their sub packages. Can't really see that from field level and they don't get the overhead pictures like the NFL.
  8. Ask him if Glenn has completed 88% of his passes in a quarter, let alone a game.
  9. Didn't see much of Sherman/Newman/Waggoner on D. Hope that shifts. We could hedge our bet on Hurl and spread the snaps around if we shift that NI spot more to WIL. Hurl on first down, one of the others in dime.
  10. One was our own LB providing a bust in coverage, and I'd be curious to see how the new safety graded out. On the long TD pass he was blitzing along with Hurl, cover 0 and Durant read it pre-snap. Randle was playing Smith inside shade and Smith broke outside deep, no chance for Randle to cover him with no help over the top. Bigger problem with that play was how ineffective that blitz was, didn't even force Durant to move the launch point. If you're late on a cover 0 blitz, it's over Johnny. Deion Sanders in his prime would be tough to stop that. Hurl's gap opened up wide based on the twist run by the DL, he was just way too slow to have any effect on Durant.

  12. It was driving me crazy hearing the announcers just swooning over Messam. The guy has a huge lane with nobody in front of him for yards and he's all of a sudden a top 10 player in the league. Give me a break And he can't handle more than 8 carries a game. Although Cornish is trending that way too.
  13. It ran out last season. Once guys start getting serious leg and shoulder injuries they are never the same.
  14. Our DL needs less Peach and Westerman, more Gibson and Johnson. Sad to say based on what he's getting paid, but Westerman should be rotating with Thomas, probably about 60-40.
  15. Not on the one that knocked him out of the game, but he did have a couple others that fit that^ description.
  16. Got hit low after he threw a pass in the pocket by a falling DL. Probably ACL.
  17. In the standings yes, but you don't think they were concerned about their starting D coming out of that game based on how they played against Hamilton's starting O?
  18. They got torched against Hamilton's starters in the first half last week. Torched for 500 yards tonight. It's a legit concern. In a ******* pre season game. Seriously, some perspective would be great. Ya, starters vs starters in a pre-season game. Not meaningless.

  20. Too much blitzing, especially when it's completely ineffective, in the first half. Second half and 4th quarter in particular were much better. I'm worried about our DT's and our two real LB's (Hurl and Bass). They were overpowered tonight. 24 looked awful quite often at safety as well. Real weird angles he took on Messam and gave up yards because of it.
  21. Running backs about the same? Last year we relied on a guy who couldn't do any of the basics well and our offense was basically one dimensional, leading to our quarterback getting killed because teams didn't have to respect the run at all. This is a huge difference coming into this season. We had no boundary wideout last season and relied on Aaron Kelly and Romby Bryant for stretches last season. Maybe you don't like Darvin Adams, but the receivers are better. Moving Watson out doesn't have much impact because he basically became a glorified tight end who could barely move around the field. Feoli-Gudino is probably better at this point.
  22. JFG doesn't have to play every snap, and if a NI goes down in game we're not scrambling as we have had to in the past. This is the ratio flexibility. I'm sure you'll see Marshall and Veltung out there too. What's you read on Veltung? Lot of people doesnt seems to impressed with him espcially on the receivers position. Scared of him handling punts, he really struggled last Friday, can't let balls hit the turf. Thought he looked like one of the better new receivers in the pre-season games, like a Denmark type, good routes, good hands, good at adjusting to the ball.

  24. It's hard to say. He was the horse they rode 2nd half of last year and it worked. His numbers never have been great but he's always seemed to do enough to get the job done. What's been a bafflement to the Als is that since Calvillo retired, why is it that they've lacked continuity now from every QB including the ones that looked so promising? For example, in 2013 after Calvillo, Neiswander, and Marsh all got hurt, they found Troy Smith, he played pretty good, looked like he was the QB of the future, and then the next year fizzled out completely and has now left the CFL. Then of course it was Crompton last year who got dubbed the man and was workin for them, but now he's been put on the short rope. I think one of the problems has been the offensive coordinator carousel that's gone around now for the last few years, from the Hawkins situation in 2013 and that turnover and the eventual bringing back in of Doug Berry, to then going to Worman, firing him before the season started, then bringing in Schonert and Garcia. I guess maybe that brings me to the question of how much was last year's offensive turnaround the work of Garcia, and how much was Schonert. Because Schonert last night didn't look nearly as competent of an OC as he did last year and perhaps not having Garcia's brains to pick has hurt more than they thought. It's still early though, and although their defense didn't play good last night, Noel Thorpe has been one of the best in the league the last few years and I'd have a hard time believing that at some point the D won't get turned around again. I see this happen all the time though, teams look dead early but then turn it around midseason. 99% luck, 1% bafflement Crompton is somewhat predictable in what he will bring, so they could build an offence around him where they couldn't around Smith. At his best he's well below average, but I think defenses are going to press him and make him basically useless in 2015. Hard situation for any OC. What play do you call when your QB doesn't have enough strengths to make anything work? You can only throw a swing pass or screen pass so many times.
