I err on the side of safety...but if you can't play on a day like today you may not play another game outdoors on the Prairies this summer. -

No but if you're not running tempo, what's the difference between a run play and a pass play? Clock runs until under 3 minute warning in long quarters no matter what you do. -

Yeah all involved have literally a week of knowing this was a likely scenario. Should be able to make a call by like 4 PM before people start traveling to the stadium. -

Tevin Jones is kind of the exact player we need. Just kind of a reliable, do everything kind of receiver. Like Bailey who we never replaced. IMO Rhymes is no better than Wheatfall at this stage, kind of just good at one thing, struggles in short-intermediate to be productive. -
This is an endless loop though. How would YOU ever know if the best guys are playing? For all we know some guy who was on the practice roster here in 95 would have beat Milt Stegall's record if he got the chance. But he didn't, got cut and has been sitting on a couch for 30 years. Maybe he'd be a better TSN analyst too. But Cal Murphy never gave him a shot.

I'd much rather Cam Allen on given the D we play with all the DB's. Why do you need Wilson, Jones x2, Ayers (yeah special teams) when the majority of snaps for the D you have one true LB on the field, 2 if they are in 30 front which they've used less since Person has been on? Cam Allen 6'1 200 pounds. Play him at dime, play him at boundary corner where Bonds is getting absolutely exposed week after week, play him as a 2 high safety, push Parker down into SAM sometimes. I bet Argos pick on Bonds and Parker in this game. -

If you had 2019 Streveler at QB...giddy up. The fact that he can't change direction anymore and can't reach top speed makes a run heavy, RPO style game a true grind...not just on the D but on him. I think Corcoran can play. Going from the receiving corps we have had to just Wheatfall and Sterns on as Americans is pure insanity. I don't read much into depth chart positions on D. Will be interesting to see how they deploy the bodies. Parker moving to corner had to happen. To take 1/3 of a season to realize Bridges is not a CFL player and Parker is terrible at safety....hmm. Again...Vaval...what a goddamn fail that we keep running this guy out. Costs us points and dozes of yards of field position on a weekly basis. Put someone in there that knows how to catch a punt and at least break even. I bet Cobb ends the game as returner. -

Also have to consider whoever our QB is that we have like 1 CFL receiver on the field and a bunch of guys. -

Sterns has started every game and been with the 1's basically since Day 1. -
It means he can sub in for Antwi 25 snaps. Otherwise he has to sub in for an American, so basically one of the receivers. Calgary is down Barnes, Alford and Philpot. Pretty thin on O.

The decision is one that teams who contend for a long time have to make. Collaros has been on borrowed time since 2018. Dru Brown was insanely productive and with enough reps to know it wasn't a mirage. Like double the reps Mike Reilly had before Edmonton handed him the keys and contended for the next half decade. Wally Buono made similar decisions about 4 times in his career. Basically could have handed Collaros back to Hamilton or maybe even Toronto to play out his career. Not the worst thing, it's where they live (his family). Tough decision, but those have to be made. No one would have been worse off. Collaros playing pretty poorly in terms of putting up points in playoff games since the 2019 playoffs would have helped my decision making.

They are both UDFA's in NFL camps right now. -
2022 team would have been a 1-2 loss team overall if they had a reliable kicker.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

It's pretty obvious how deployment of our defensive players has changed in the past two years. The change was Younger taking over. It's more DB's, fewer DL. He doesn't use the Canadian/Global/DI depth guys nearly as much. Most plays we have 7 DB's on the field. I'm counting Kramdi and Griffin as DB's. Griffin is basically a starter to me, even if he's not listed first at any position on depth chart. He plays more than Wilson or Adams. Jefferson is an every down player under Younger. Never was under Hall. O'Shea has been the head coach the whole time. The only thing I think O'Shea has done this year is given Miller more choice on guys he wants on for cover teams. In past years they probably would have put a guy like Cobb on over one of the LB/DB types to give the offense more depth. IMO the bigger issue is likely O'Shea not pulling a bit of autonomy from the coordinators when things are going south than the opposite. -

You think O'Shea is lying when he says Younger decides who is on the field on D? -

Or really fail to acknowledge that when they got what they wanted in a lot of areas (a younger team, fewer high paid vets) the team is markedly worse. If anyone wants...check the receipts on not re-signing Lawler. Certain people sing with the wind...as experts. -
That's kind of where the league is though. Terrible QB play and development. Brown vs Collaros gave two distinct paths, but look at Ottawa. Brown is turning out to be their Drew Willy. He's been healthy less than Collaros. Matt Shiltz has started games for 4 different CFL teams since the 2020 shutdown. Hamilton and Sask are resurgent on guys who are pushing 40 who haven't been healthy or consistent since before 2020. Montreal rolled with the guy who can't play a quarter without aggravating his hamstring. Great player, but is he going to be the guy who can only play 10-12 games a season like Dickenson? Edmonton pushed all-in on Ford who is nowhere near ready, if he ever could be with his arm. BC is paying Rourke an amount he could probably never out play. Calgary is on the up slope of the VAJ rollercoaster. The only way to make sure you have a basic floor level of QB play in this league is to sign MBT.

Kelly is a vet.

Streveler wasn't injured until his last start in Calgary, 2nd last game of the season. Which is how Collaros got on the field starting the final regular season game here vs Calgary. Collaros hadn't even dressed the game in Calgary when Streveler was injured. They put in Sean McGuire and then Streveler came back in with the high ankle sprain/tibial fracture.

Everyone started descending down the hill. OL was really old, Khari was beaten up. They also lost Arland Bruce to the NFL. The 3rd American receiver was LaDaris Vann. Stoddard was basically the #3 downfield target. Stegall was 33, Gordon was 35. -

I think Hogan wants a guy that moves the ball out a lot quicker, like a Calvillo/Glenn style. Neither of our QB's is great at that. Streveler really struggles if moved off his first read and then he goes hero mode...which he can't really do anymore on his own. But Streveler does get into good rhythm off tempo and moves the ball out quicker in tempo. IMO...we don't have the right receivers to run anything that works for Collaros....or really anyone. Sterns can get some separation and make space, but he's 5'7. He's not running by or through anyone after the catch. Wheatfall doesn't seem like they trust. He screws up and they just avoid him. But often the only guy dressed who is a real target for vertical stuff which is kind of the calling card of this era for the Bombers. Demski has some limits, obviously can make some big plays, but can disappear if there's no other threat. Clercius is great at Z, win those isolation routes without having to deal with traffic and move his feet too much to win. Mitchell brings that ability to take the top off, not a whole lot else. Him and Wheatfall can be dangerous on screens if they are confident. Schoen, who knows, doesn't look physically capable. OL is up and down. Think our Week 1 OL is the best combo, but the vets on our line week to week are consistently inconsistent. Randolph...don't think he's won a job. Vanterpool probably our best player on the line so far this year. If I'm starting Streveler this week, I'd run tempo the whole game. I'd have like 12 plays and just run the hell out of tempo, no huddle. Inside zone read R/L, Outside zone read R/L, QB Draw, 3-4 RPO plays, 3-4 drop back passes, swap sides and route combos each pass play, change the reads so it looks different to D, short yardage pack. Don't need to trick anyone one, just need to beat them and tire them out. -
I love Streveler for what he is, and what he's done in our uniform. But this is laughable. This team was his in 2019 for the taking. I know he was young, but the only reason Collaros is here at all is because Streveler was 3-5 with a team that went 13-2 and won the Grey Cup in games with Nichols/Collaros. If anyone viewed Streveler as a starting quality QB, he'd be in Edmonton, or Hamilton last year, or Toronto, or Calgary. He's just not that level of player. He's a good backup with some unique qualities if he's healthy. Which he's nowhere near. Watch the guy throw a ball. He's arm throwing, he's getting nothing from his core, hips and down. He likely should not have returned until after Labour Day.
