dog rescues can absolutely help get dogs into good loving homes. a lot of rescue dogs would be great pets but need some rehab before they're ready to go home with their forever families. Plus a good dog rescue/foster will vet the adoptees so that the dude who lives in an apartment and works away from home 70 hours a week doesn't get the husky puppy that will be miserable, mean, and loud if it's not running laps 24/7. yes, I would rather talk about imaginary dog rescues than football right now. maybe the General board needs a "post your pet" thread to lighten things up.

Willy wasn't hurt in 2016, at least not publicly. He was pulled in the Calgary game after throwing a pick six, Nichols started the next game, and the rest is history. The pick six is at 2:55 in this video, and Nichols is on the field next drive.

Dominic Picard's shotgun snaps in 2015 were soooo bad. Slow and inaccurate, the QB always had to take care to secure them before looking downfield. It kind of made me doubt whether the Canadian quota was a good idea, seeing such a football skills deficiency.

His knee injury came in 2011 at home against Calgary. Buck got hurt, JE started the second half and wrecked his knee making a tackle after a fumble recovery. He wasn't playing extra special when he got hurt. He was healthy when cut during the 2012 offseason, afaik. plus Kamau Incompleterson.

Elliott got the vast majority of his game action while Burke was the head coach in 2012. He only started a couple of games before Lapo got canned. Lapo seemed to prefer Brink as his non-Buck starter. Elliott got released by us after the 2012 season. Happy birthday to him.

Nickie Hall started the first bomber game I ever saw ... then was traded for Huffer a few weeks later. So that worked out for us. Tom Muecke was hot and cold for us and there was brief optimism that he could be the post-Clements answer in 1988 but then Salisbury got airlifted in and that ended that. Richie Williams was meh as a QB and had a weird throwing motion but damn his play action moves were greasy. Repeatedly faked out the TSN camera crews during his time in Hamilton -- you could never tell if the RB had the ball or he did. I think Joey Elliott had a 400 yard / 4 pick game at some point in his tenure. Total gunslinger who had a couple real pretty games for us. Definitely a guy who wanted to rob the bank instead of putting money in it. (edit: it was 284 yards and four picks, vs Calgary in 2012) On the flip side of backups who prospered, can't forget Matty Ice ... the final piece that flipped us from pretender to contender. Not a ring of honor guy but def a BBHOF tier guy.

you're not wrong, but how many CFL teams have more than an unproven zero at QB2? Only teams with proven QB depth right now are us, Montreal and Toronto. Maybe Edmonton. And it's always been this way, teams with QB depth are the exception in this weird league.

it depends who the backup is. like if I'm Mike Murphy and the sex pest is struggling, pulling him for Arbuckle doesn't seem unreasonable. Or if it's 2016 and I've got Matty Ice on the bench while Drew Willy is struggling, that seems fine. Or if it's 2026 and I've got a tandem of Brown and Zach, then maybe it's not unreasonable to swap 'em if one's struggling. but say my backup is Terry Wilson, I'm inclined to let him stay on the bench texting his mom and let ZC8 sort it out on the field.

yeah, those Clements / Hufnagel glory days were awesome ... back when Clements didn't finish 90% of his starts because he'd put the other team in garbage time by the middle of the third quarter .... or because he was having the odd suck game and Hufnagel would come off the bench to salvage things. Coach Murphy did not waste time going to his backup. that said, back in the ZC8 glory days I had no trouble watching Zach play through any struggles -- we won so many games in the fourth quarter that I never lost the faith.

why is "Eli doesn't start" totally on Osh? We've had four different OCs and one OL coach since Eli's been here and the dude has never established himself. Seems like a consensus.

hell, when they ran out of actual running backs a couple of years ago they didn't recruit a replacement, they just moved Addison from receiver. In a playoff game, no less. We ran empty backfield on some plays inside the ten yard line against the redblacks. why would you take the run off the table there when you got a high-torque guy like Brady who regularly turns three yard opportunities into nine yard runs? At least make the D respect that.

this is a horrible call-in-show level take. the dude is on a thousand yard pace and you're going to bust his balls on a play where he had Joey C leading his blocking? White didn't even get turned upfield before multiple redblacks were on him. Besides, little WRs fighting for yards while being swarmed is how fumbles happen. Bad play call, bad player usage.

I think if I could pick the Grey Cup broadcast team it would be Smith and Willson. Smith generally calls a tight game, he ain't bad to listen to, and Willson's analysis is exceptional. He doesn't shy away from calling out a breakdown and helps me understand how the little things make or break a play. I think Nielsen pairs well with Forde or with Lapo -- guys who aren't the most interesting presenters but who have genuine insights to share. Especially Forde, who is a smart guy but also very dry. Need some energy in the booth with that guy. Rod Smith + Forde is like a damn funeral. Glenn Suitor, you've had a good run, thank you for your service.

that "just throw to 87" thing was annoying as hell ... but then Geno Lewis made a legit amazing catch in the endzone.

because I love the Bombers and the Bombers need opponents. The league is in rough shape in a bunch of ways and needs its top talent on the field.

yeah, backup McCheese is fine. He'd be an improvement on most teams in the CFL ... except for Winnipeg, Toronto, and maybe Montreal. Hamilton would def be way better off with Maier as their BLM replacement instead of DoegegallaFrostord. Maier gives you a bit of a chance of competing, as opposed to the zero chance you have with Hamilton's squadron of QB3s.

note that all my "oh god please don't trade Zach and leave us vulnerable" goes out the window if we got Stavros or Kiondre Smith or a similar S-tier canuck talent back for him. but I really doubt that you'll get a foundational building block back in exchange for an emergency veteran quarterback. unless Ottawa is involved because those guys seem to not think too hard about their football moves. is it, really? People tell me that the CFL games moves 5x as fast as the USports game, is he gonna be able to accelerate his brain accordingly? Not saying that the dude is a no-hoper or anything and it'd be swell if he were the second coming of Russ Jackson or even Gerry Datillio .. but he hasn't moved beyond "very inttriguing prospect" for me.

naw, I think we gotta keep that depth at QB. Having two QBs who can win games is a great postion to be in. Don't want to wind up hooped like Hamilton if we have an unfortunate injury.
