FNF Doubleheader Als @ Argos, Lions @ Stamps GDT
johnzo replied to bustamente's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
second time he's been hurt this year diving forward on a run. -
Pierce is running a real nice offence right now in BC. Just trailing Hamilton and Toronto in total points scored. If he had a defence the Lions would be scary.

ah, from your handle I figured you were in a cover band that does blues versions of Minor Threat and Black Flag songs.

Nichols replaced Willy in garbage time of the 2016 Calgary game where we dropped to 1-4. Nichols was the starter in the next game, which we won. I remember all this well because I think modern Bomber history began that night, since then our record has been way over .500. Dom Davis lost his QB2 slot to the Fever in the latter parts of 2017 but I think that change came between games too. Both of Dru Brown's big games in 2023 came after Collaros was knocked out of the game due to injury.

I'm a software engineer and I help build aerospace tools, and the hardest part of my job is not coding or technical crap, it's all communications and learning. I have to learn enough about my customers' disciplines so that I can build software that's useful to them. Def no choice but to get out in the field and learn what they do by seeing it directly. It's never boring. be interesting to fire up a careers thread and find out what everyone does/did for a living. yeah, I've known some brilliant people who are not doers. those guys are so frustrating to work with, they can turn anything into a quagmire. on the other hand, I've also worked with hi-energy idiots, people who might be smart and eager but who have zero judgment -- those guys are dangerous. as in all things, you gotta walk the line.

the funny thing about Brown's progression is that he turned the corner without a lot of game reps. Most of his development must have happened in practice -- but I see the assertion here that practice reps aren't really great at preparing new players for the CFL.

Maybe Zach is healthy in November and our opponents have shitty QB injury luck ... ESF is Collaros vs. Morgan, EF is Collaros vs. Powell, Grey Cup is Collaros vs. PJ Walker. I recognize that the team has really declined from its peak in 2021, and we ain't gonna power bully our way to a cup like we did that year unless things turn real awesome real fast ... but there's always the hope we can win a sneaky backdoor cup. The Roughriders backed into the Grey Cup in 2007 and there ain't no asterisks on their banners.

The way I look at it is that sports can make me happy, but sports is not allowed to make me feel sad or angry or disappointed or whatever for more than a minute or two. Picked up that attitude in 1996, when I was legit depressed for an entire year after both the Jets and Ottawa Rough Riders went away and people were talking about how the Hamilton Snow Bowl might be the last Grey Cup. There's lots of things to be miserable about, don't need to include my hobbies. Nowadays I'm just thankful for every kickoff. Respect to those whose passion for the blue runs deeper, though.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

Not to me. I've got no problem with any football player doing anything legal to maximize their earnings. Football sucks as a job and as a Canadian star who's real hard to replace, Henoc is one of the few players who has real leverage in salary negotiations. -

we'd be in Tim Burke territory without those two. have always had special admiration for the Bombers who were great players on bad teams -- Milt, of course. Terrance Edwards, Doug Brown, Joe Lobendahn, Jovon. Henoc Muamba was a beast in 2013 and based on how bad the team was that year I honestly can't blame him for always spurning the Bombers during his annual free agent ball. -
for the sake of the league I was kinda hoping that the Argos would ride Arbuckle for the rest of the season and then quietly move on from the Chad. Arbuckle getting hurt messes with this plan, but yeah, you're right, upside to the Blue.
-
Arbuckle has a calf strain, so Doege will start for the Argos this week against Als. Dinwiddie's ability to roll with a backup QB gets another test this week. https://3downnation.com/2025/09/16/toronto-argonauts-expected-to-start-qb-jarret-doege-against-montreal-alouettes-report/

back in the day my ex and I would spend halftime rating Matty and Milt's suits. Milt usually won, the guy has absurd genetics and a lot of stuff looks good on him...but the occasional Matty upset was amazing. We dog the TSN panel for a lot of stuff, but whoever's dressing them is straight fire.

Wanna give a HH shout-out to Brady for soloing our O. Vintage performance, no quit. He was the only thing we had and they still couldn't stop him for the most part. -
Dustin Crum... ...on a plunge after an endzone PI call.
-
Edmonton / Toronto is game of the week this week. two midseason renaissances collide. who to pick? 🤷 (edited after picking) wow, 50/50 so far on Elks/Argos. Everyone is over the Bombers and apparently Crumback 2.0 was a fluke.
-
two big upsets + two home losses. statistically unlikely week.
-
Typical CFL game. Starts unwatchable and by the end you can't look away. I love this weird league.

Mikawos was a good one. Watching vintage games with him as a NT, that dude could move a center around. Glad he got that 84 grey cup TD on his resume. -
Butler

now I'm curious what bad will would look like. Airstrikes?
-
oof. man, how do you sell hope in Ottawa when Dustin Crum is starting all your games?
-
Thanks dude. This is what comes of listening to too much Suitor. Thing I noticed in the LDC was that Zach was frequently breaking contain and rolling out into free space after the play action, so it looked like successful RPO to me -- the plays were getting Zach out of the danger zone behind Kolo and into free space where he can do his Zach thing.
-
people blame the lack of Brady carries on playcalling -- but in an RPO scheme the QB has the option to pull the ball and throw it. Zach gets a vote too on how Brady's used, and given that Brady had beaten the Als pretty much singlehandedly the week before, the Saskatchewan DEs were opting to crash down on the run more often than not. Zach put up some beaucoup yards and three TDs with his arm -- we almost beat them without our best player being much of a factor. Sucks to lose, but we showed we had a passing attack even with our ragtag receiving corps and leaky pass protection, which is way more that what I expected.
