I don't think we get better players. The market will adjust and the proven free agents will get their contract bid up the next time free agency hits. The money is most likely to get spread around to other established starters in free agency, and not go to a single high profile player from down south. It isn't like you going to take the 100k you save on a Canadian starter and give it to a high profile American to convince them to come up North. It still won't give them NFL money. The reason they come here is to either get back / to the NFL or continue to get paid to play football.

Unless they change the cap (which is a very unlikely result of changing the ratio rules), changing the ratio would not make running a CFL team less expensive. The distribution of who gets what money would simply change on the team.

CHL players seek compensation in minimum-wage lawsuit

This is for the whole league? Not a single team? 60 teams in the CHL. $1.6M in profit, means each team makes $27k? -

The roster bonus is for the players. Even if they were likely going to cut him, if there was no roster bonus, Edmonton could hang on to him at least through training camp, then make a decision based on what they have in camp. The roster bonus forces the team to decide before the season starts to commit to a player. And if they cut him, then there is still time to catch on with another team. One could argue that it would be better for the player if they negotiated the roster bonus to be paid before free agency. -

Was at the game. Got free tickets to the loge seating. Pretty nice way to watch a game compared to the normal cramped seating. The upper deck was open for whatever reason today.

The good news is we scored on 50% of our shots.

IMO he is doing a much better job then his predecessor, Garth Buchko. I've liked what he has done so far.. Many improvements around the stadium since he has taken over in terms of game day experience, traffic, etc. Addressed a lot of the issues people complained about when we first moved in. Not everything they've tried has worked, but they aren't standing pat. I often see him out in the concourse game days. He has come up to us just to chat and see how everything is going, make sure everything is okay. The Bombers financials have been okay under his watch. About as good as you can expect given the situation he inherited (new stadium needing repairs, etc) and the mortgage they need to pay down. The team really needs successful seasons over multiple years to bring some of the season ticket numbers back up and revive the image of the Bombers for some in the city, especially with the Jets now here. Last year was a good step in that direction. Hopefully the people he has in place can build towards that.

Football / hockey would have to be my number 1/ 2 (winter / summer deciding which is 1 and 2) but I do play every Thursday night, so when I see curling on TV, I will usually leave it on for at least background noise. I've actually been surprised a who well Englot has played in the Scotties. Reading the articles of her coming out of Manitoba, it just sounded like Jones had a bad day. But Englot has far surpassed expectations. Jones is 42, can't have that many more years left in the tank.

If a team is trading for Stafford, it would mean they are going in for a playoff push, so it is unlikely they are giving up anything that would help us in a playoff push, because they would want to keep that piece. It would be for futures. Pick(s) most likely. If you look at some of the playoff odds sites out there, the Jets have about a 10 - 12% chance of making the playoffs right now. Trade Stafford for whatever you can get.

I think Myers is the big question mark. If your top 5 is Myers, Buff, Trouba, Morrissey, Enstrom ... you probably aren't trading an expensive piece for the 6, 7, 8 spots or you are bringing in a prospect like Poolman. If you aren't happy with those as your top 5 then you have to be looking to trade one of them to keep the money you spend on the backend reasonable.

There is a league wide problem in the depth of defencemen out there and it will only get worse with Las Vegas coming aboard. D-men are at a premium, and you only have to look at what Edmonton had to pay to get Adam Larsson. No one really has or wants to give up their defensive depth, and you will typically have to overpay to get it.
