Yeah, there's no political partisanship  on this thread. Even with an act of kindness there has to e an agenda? Okay then... What's Junior up to? Oh yeah, he's been self isolating for a month. Too busy raising the carbon tax while our economy is heading for a depression & giving himself a raise when millions of Canadians like me have lost or are losing their jobs. Our great ******* leader.

They've stolen 25% of my life savings overnight and they won't stop until they've got it all, I'm sure. We better get used to it, this has worked so well it will be repeated over and over again.

People throw out the phrase that Alberta needs to diversify the econmy like it's so easy & can be done quickly, Alberta has a highly educated work force of unemployed ex O & G workers. You'd think high tech companies would want to set up shop here yet it never happens because Alberta has to compete with other cities & countries. Maybe the business & income tax are less elsewhere.  Maybe governments elsewhere are more business friendly. Certainly the climate plays a lot into decisions of companies to relocate here.  To simply say Alberta "should just" diversify, well it's not that easy.

Again, just because oil was humongous doesn't mean Alberta has nothing else. Oil just completely blew things out of control. I mean even with the oil industry depressed and people in alberta feeling like the end times it still has an economy that many other provinces would love to have.

The way I understand it is, you have to go 14 days with ZERO income.  So if you're a restaurant worker, for example, who was full time but is now 2 days per week, you lost a ton of income but dont qualify.   If you go 14 days with no income and you do qualify but you get offered a shift or some gig for, say, $200, you'd have to decline it or you wouldnt qualify for the next benefit installment.
So the usual Liberal bait & switch.  JT gets to play the great man and then the bean counters put up road blocks.  Just give it to everyone and be done.

We dont really know that.  Lets not forget the Liberals tried to grab a bit of power using the pandemic as a cover and were rightly knocked about for it.  We'll see what we think when our economy is toast and they raise taxes.  They also came out with some new rules to get the emergency money and they're not as broad as they originally made it seem.

    1) be careful on withdrawing money, in some cases there is a penalty if not held in the investment for a certain period.
    2) remember the TFSA has a limit of 6k
    3) RRSP will carry over and can provide tax advantages for next year

With how low the market is right now, I'd be purchasing stocks through TFSAs instead of RRSPs because...
    1) In either investment vehicle, the sales would be exempt from capital gains taxes provided you buy/sell from within the plan.
    2) As economic times are uncertain - by purchasing through a TFSA instead of an RRSP, the funds are still accessible without adverse tax consequences. That is, if I needed the money later in 2020, I could withdraw it from my TFSA without increasing my taxable income (not the case for RRSPs)... there are some more intricate rules for TFSAs here if you're close to your TFSA limit, but if you're well below it, you should be fine (talk to your financial advisor if you're unsure).
    3) As most of us are, to some degree, working less, we'll likely be earning less income for 2020, meaning the main pro RRSPs have over TFSAs (an upfront tax deduction), is much less advantageous - as most of us will be in a lower earning bracket (thus saving less marginal tax) for 2020 at least. Of course, if you really like contributing to RRSPs, you could choose to carry forward the RRSP deductions to a future taxation year.

Quit making this about ******* Boomers. We're all in this together & your take is just as bad as J5V's. By saying Boomer you imply it's anyone over 55's fault we have a pandemic. You don't like racism when Trump call it the Chinese Virus then quit making it about ageism. Your Boomer comment does not help.

Obscure? It's right there in front of your nose on Globals website.
1-999? Holy hyperbole! There are many experts saying exactly what Mr. Kettner is saying and some of them are saying it much more strongly. It appears people like you choose to ignore them. Why is that? Doesn't feed into the hype machine? Not good click-bait?
Since these brilliant people have dedicated their lives to the public good and have risen to the top of their fields and are doctors and academics and not politicians, at least give me some good arguments that disprove what they're saying. Maybe then you can convince me to dismiss them too.
