This is a good "perspective" post. We haven't lost anything yet. We are playoff bound and anything can and does happen in the CFL.

Who hired Lapo? Who hired Hall? Why do people think that throwing the coordinators under the bus as a sacrifice to OSh works? He hired them and is loyal to them. He nearly got himself fired sticking with Drew Willy until he was likely forced to move on.
So I wanted to do a little more digging into the record of our illustrious, country club running Head Coach. This is his record as Head Coach of the Bombers:
54 wins 51 losses regular season.
1 Labour day win, 5 losses on Labour day
4 wins, 2 losses in the Banjo Bowl
    1 Playoff win, 3 losses
Zero trips to the Grey Cup, and of course, zero championships.
He's the 2nd longest serving head coach in Winnipeg, and people are afraid we would be, what? Lost without him? What has he delivered? The loyalty that he demonstrates, to a fault, is creating a "losing is ok" country club atmosphere. Now, of course I'm not in the room and this is my best guess but when the team has no consequences for bad play what are we to think?
He's a 500 coach with 1 playoff win since 2014. He's not only replaceable, he's culpable. I could hire a Labrador retriever to run the team for a decade and while it would be "stable" it's the results that matter.
Oh and can we stop pretending in a 9 team league that there are "cupboards" to be bare? What a stupid excuse. This isn't the NHL where it takes time to build  a winner. Good god.

Head Coach Ray Jauch couldn't get the Bombers into the Grey Cup despite having a great team & 3 second place finishes in a row with 10-6, 11-5 & 11-5 records in 1980, 81 & 82. He left. Within TWO SEASONS we won the 1984 Grey Cup with HC Cal Murphy. You don't sit still after 5 seasons. Something's gotta give.

When it comes to Blue Bomber history, he who cannot draw on the last 11 years is living from hand to mouth.  Look at where this team was at after 2008 & 2009 - the cupboard was bare.  Other than a 2011 GC berth, we had absolutely pathetic seasons after that.
O’Shea brought success and competence to this team.  To include the first two seasons just to make the point that he is .500, given the mess he inherited, is misleading.
Other changes need to be made, but the coach who turned this team and organization into something respectable needs to stay.
Meanwhile, we can keep lamenting our 9 - 6 team.  In other news, the Grey Champion lost to the predicted tire fire.

We had that chance last off-season...  Sask wanted Lapo and Nelson or Thorpe could have been grabbed from Ottawa easily
Andrew Harris just did the 'the coaching staff has the players full support and we'll get through this' speech...  long-time bomber fans know that post-game player quote is the kiss of death for a coaching staff

Nope, Nichols didn't play the Riders this season.
Nichols' played the soft part of the schedule and his wins came against the worst teams in the league -- BC, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Toronto. Streveler likely cashes in those wins too. Nichols also beat Bo-less Calgary throwing for 0 TDs and running for 2 yards so he doesn't get much credit there. As soon as Nichols played a good team like Hamilton he was throwing picks and looked awful.

Shocking. The 9 year Vet who had Sp Tms and D help to beat OTT BC Tor 5 of 7 wins... Has a better record than the 2nd yr guy who was a gimmick QB at first.. With a few starts playing the better teams. Real shocker.
Nichols.. Strevs.. Irrelevant.. Its the OC

I'm not sure people thought he'd be way better...more like he'd bring more variety to the game plan. Unfortunately I think many casual observers are starting to realize that regardless who our QB is we're going to have difficulty succeeding with LaPo calling the games.
That being said Chris is hanging on to the ball way too long...but...ironically that was one of the knocks on Matt too. I don't know why that is. Just about every other team's QBs manage to get off  a lot of really quick passes. Slants...hitches (with blocking in place). Matt's upside was eating it or throwing it out if he didn't feel comfortable. Chris tries to force it.
I feel for Chris. I have no doubt he's feeling an incredible amount of pressure to take what was billed as a Grey Cup contender all the way which I think influences some of his poor decisions. He's trying to make up for some pretty suspect play calling with some pretty suspect decisions. Not a great combo.

All things being equal, it comes down to LaPo's offense & playcalling.  Put Nichols in a Tommy Condell offense with those Ti Cat receivers & he easily has a thousand more yards passing. Same with Streveler. He'd actually get some qb coaching & probably would be a lot better. Our qbs are stuck in a slow, ponderous & unimaginative  offense with an OC who sucks the life out of every player.

The fact is other shitty QBs wont help our Shitty Predictable mind Boggling O move the ball.

There are times when he gets a game plan suited to his strengths and he looks like a juggernaut. He’s a guy who can take over a game and make something happen. That’s been born out already.
Can you say the same thing about Nichols?
I’m not disagreeing that we likely would have a better record with Nichols .. but I’m also not confident he’ll take us further than we’ve been already.

I'd be more inclined to agree with that if I had any idea how much influence he has on the cautious approach we often see from the co-ordinators. Plus his unwillingness to acknowledge issues and/or take responsibility for them just reeks of denial. Not a positive quality for a coach if indeed the case.

Of course it does. What fan doesn't feel entitled? Personally, I don't really care whether I like O'Shea or not. All I care about is winning in the playoffs and winning a championship and that's where he has failed for me.

Not even close to jumping off any cliff.  I'm to the point of wanting to see this team step up & re-establish itself as one of, if not THE TEAM in the CFL to beat. To do that they have to start by beating the Riders today. I want to see a solid performance from everybody in all 3 phases of the game. I don't care if the game is close or a blow out by the Bombers but I'm not scared or nervous like a certain poster here always seem to be. I expect us to win.

Maybe. The Cats haven't won anything yet but look to be a very good team. Lots can happen between now and the end of the game on Grey Cup Sunday. It's all about who is healthy and who gets hot at the right time. Might even be us. After all, we've got coaching continuity on our side and you know how valuable that is.

I don't understand why you're so negative about Streveler. Obviously if he is turning the ball over it's not good but a lot can go into a turnover such as poor route running by the receiver, bad hands on the receiver, poor Oline play, poor play calling, and plain old bad luck.
He'll never be Matt Nichols, they're very different types of players. Nichols is a pocket passer, very slow of foot, and somewhat fragile, very cautious with the ball and risk averse. He is somewhat reluctant to fire the ball into tight windows or to stretch the field vertically but he's very good at making the safe play.
Streveler is a much more mobile QB and is very intelligent, a stud of an athlete with a strong arm, good speed, and tremendous heart. He's not afraid to take chances and will challenge a D by firing the ball into tight windows. He is not a seasoned vet like Nichols and is somewhat more prone to making mistakes but he's learning. We're damned lucky to have him. The last time he played the Riders he pummeled them and had them off balance all game. Give the guy a break.
