CHQR radio here in Calgary spent a half hour on their talk shows speaking to emergency coordinators & reporters from CJOB yeaterday about the storm that never was, All I heard was "we're prepared", "Environment Canada told us that it'll be the worst storm in decades" & the next day we're going to get walloped with snow from Ontario". Gotta hype even when there is no hype.

Fans would have to be pretty naive to think gay players haven't been playing professionally for as long as these sports have been around. So the "Openly Gay" designation shouldn't even be mentioned but hey, it's 3DN always looking for click bait.. We no longer call Vernon Adams a black qb. Rasheed Bailey a black wide receiver. Brandon Alexander a black safety. Willie Jefferson a black defensive end. Even half a century ago, Adam Bighill would never have been called a white linebacker. I know tht **** Butkus & Ray Nitscke were never referred to that way. Brady Oliviera is no longer called a brown running back. Sure, 50-60 years ago when players of colour were starting to play certain high profile positions that used to be reserved strictly for white players like QB, Running Back, Cornerback, MLB & Receiver the race card was prevalent, But not today. We still do say players are Americans, Canadians or Internationals in the CFL but that's because of the ratio rules only. It has nothing to do with being gay or race.

I also think anyone who makes it onto the field at the pro level in any sport means they aren't failures. They can play. Some obviously better than others.

In Calgary, all schools remain open even if there are no classes to provide shelter for kids that need it. That sounds the same in Winnipeg. Providing staff can make it in to open the schools. If you can't make it in because of the weather & the transit buses aren't running then just act accordingly. It's not that hard. Having to wait until 6 am sounds reasonable. When I drove a school bus, it was the same for us. We would have to call in to work at 6 am to find out if the school divisions had cancelled classes.

The ground is frozen. There's nowhere for the melt to go. So, there'll be a flood & most of it will be lost to evaporation. Winnipeg is on a flood plain which is why the soil is so rich & fertile. There's never been an 80 cm snow event in the Red River Valley. I don't expect that to occur.

I used to fish the Red River when I was a kid. We lived in Riverview so the river was very close. One time, I caught a 6 or 7 lb Silver Bass. I was so proud & I wanted my dad to see it. I thought he'd want to smoke or fry it up. He was heavily into fishing. He took one look at that fish & buried it on the spot in our garden. He wanted no part of any fish caught in the Red River.
