  1. We are screwed without at the very least competent kicker. Good offenses score 400 points or more on offense & a kicker scores 140 of those yet it looks like the Bombers think anyone can do it. If Castillo wanted to play in the CFL it should have been here. Who were our kickers when we won? Medlock & then Castillo. right? Two of the best. Or was it Legghio & Mourtada? Two of the worst.
  2. This should have been solved once & for all. We had an entire season to figure it out. Back at square one. Why would the guy go to Edmonton?
  3. So, all the North American car companies ditched automobiles last year in favour of heavy pickups & SUV's. Oil was about $50 a barrel at the time. Now it's approaching 3 times that. No one is going to buy the big vehicles with gas prices like that. Has GM, Ford & Chrysler screwed themselves over & will they do a hard 180 to discontinue these vehicles as sales for large vehicles tank & get back into smaller automobiles & light trucks. They did it as a result of Trump getting rid of fuel mileage standards in the US. I thought the decision they all made at the time was shortsighted & now they all have to rethink their strategies & bring back cars to the buying public with better gas mileage than at present.
  4. I used to drive Thompson to Lynne Lake. I told my story about hitting the ditch driving back to Thompson in minuis 45 temps. No way an EV could last in that.
  5. I know ROH. I never watch it, though.
  6. This... I don't get. Can anyone explain it? Has field goal kicking dropped that much on our To Do List of important positions? And please don't tell me Ali Mourtada is ready to step up.
  7. Okay, Doctor Goalie... Teams usually have a ceremony at training camps & invite the players not there anymore back to receive them. If some are with other CFL teams they'll give them out when the Bombers play them. Still 7 weeks until camp.
  8. Well, of course they'd do a physical. C'mon man.
  9. Okay, let's expand IG Field to 55,000 seats to accomodate all the honourees.
  10. We need one more receiver & he'd be a great addition. But we know Toronto will scoop him up because the CFL says they can.
  11. Yep, there's a reason why my Ukrainian Uncle hated all Russians. He survived the Holdomor but I don't know how many relatives he lost, He was conscripted (forced against his will) & served in the Soviet Army in WW2. He always felt a good Russian was a dead one.
  12. I think you answered your own question by saying words like "brilliant" as well as "all time favorite". How can Tom Clements not be up there? The other question is, after Clements & before Collaros, what other qbs won us Grey Cups & were CFL MOP's at the same time? Not Salisbury & not Burgess. In other words, Clements & Collaros won a championship & dominated the league the same year? That's why both deserve a place on the ROH.
  13. Just like Latin American tin pot dictators. But in Kenney's case it wouuldn't be a tin pot. It would be an air fryer.
  14. Corus Radio has given Kenney his own radio show for an hour on Saturday mornings in Edmonton & Calgary. I just can't imagine even wanting to listen to that as every UCP staffer calls in with softball questions while other staffers screen who calls him. Just before Kenney's leadership review. It'd pretty obvious Corus wants Kenney to be Premier or they'd have stayed out of it. I'd love it if callers would lie about supporting him & why they're calling in then hit him with tough questions he stumbles to answer. Just make it a complete **** show. Have you read some of Maxime Bernier's tweets? He supports the Freedom group. The man is insane.
  15. And as usual, the East will crash & burn like it always does.
  16. The Bombers made the playoffs the 5 seasons Clements was here. They were Grey Cup contenders every season & a Grey Cup winner in 1984. He was also the CFL MOP & Grey Cup MVP. Like Clements, Collaros won't have a long career here either due to his age but he'll still be a deserving addition to the ROH as well after his retirement. It's not so much the years put in as the body of work by Clements which in his case was truly outstanding.
  17. I'd say cigarette companies were right up there, as well. How about Winston having cartoon characters Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble hawking cigarettes at the end of that cartoon so little kids can see it. This is insidious.
  18. You know, I did some quick research into subsidies of O & G going back to 1916 & the US government did subsidize O & G starting that year with tax breaks such as a "Depletion Allowance" which allowed oil companies to write off 27% of their revenues. So therefore, I withdraw my comments about O & G companies not getting subsidies at the turn of the century when they were getting established. I was wrong & withdraw what I said.... I still don't like the way things are being done today but I was wrong on subsidies. My apologies. Well, gents. I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. I have to go but this discussion was interesting. This Old Dawg learned something new today when it came to subsidies.
  19. First of all I've been paying taxes since 1971 when I got my fist job in HS at aresturant washing dishes in Winnipeg so I have an idea how they wor. Second, I read that post on Norway. Taxes on gasoline powered vehicles to pay for EV infrastructure. basically punishing drivers to get them to buy EV's. Every indusrty has subsidies. I already agreed with JCon about that. My point is O & G wa saround & functioning powering society long before any subsidies came their way. Unlike the Elon Musk's of the world relying on them to finance his Tesla vehicles long before they were viable. His company wouldn't exiist without government subsidies. But that's okay. Every industry has subsidies so Musk is entitled for Tesla to get them as well. That's still unaffordable to a lot of people. They need to be similar prices to gasoline powered cars like a Toyota Camry or Ford Fusion. Then they'll have something. I've no doubt that it'll get there someday but not right now.
  20. Costs to me are important. How many people can afford a vehicle that is $70,000 just to drive an EV?? That cost has to come down significantly if everyone will drive them. They are elite vehicles in my mind. When they become affordable, I'd consider it. Chances are, ny driving days will be over or I'll be dead by then. EV's will need roads so that's maintenace & not social engineering. Social engineering is when governments or companies try to alter society's behaviour or thoughts. A carbon tax is social engineering, therefore.
  21. You see, that's where we differ politically. I consider the movement to renewables & the way it's being done as social engineering. We'll never agree. As far as the social side of politics goes, I'm with you all the way. On that we agree. Hard to lose my fiscal conservative roots. Especially at my age.
  22. Right now? Not much. I'm not one of these rich seniors who have property in Mexico or constantly travel. My car is 10 years old but in really good condition. We live in a modest home in Calgary. I put away some money for retirement but wish I would've done more. Money's tight.
