There are much busier and more dangerous intersections - should we block those off to pedestrians?  People can get hit on any street if they and/or the drivers aren't being careful, Portage and Main is no exception and shouldn't be treated like one.

I'm old enough to remember P & M when it allowed pedestrians before being closed in 1979. It should be noted that most Winnipeggers didn't want the intersection closed back then but city planners knew best & closed it anyway. I felt the same way.

Buck needs to concentrate on being a HC, first kick at the cat being the OC too is way to much on his plate

These head coaches just don't want to give up playcalling & will go down with their teams being completely overworked & overwhelmed. We see it all the time. They have no faith that anyone else can call the plays. Well, then stay an OC or DC otherwise delegate. That's what successful head coaches do. They ned to delegate & then let their assistants coach. Some like Hufnagel, Dinwiddie, Jones & Dickenson had success as HC's calling plays. Most fail epically.

  3. How long till someone gets hit by a vehicle trying to cross Portage & Main? Being killed? That intersection when it's winter & minus 25 with a wind will be brutal to cross as a pedestrian. Those skyscrapers just make it a wind tunnel.

Good article by Scott Billeck. I think its fair to say up to 33% dont want any help, they dont want to be moved and its people like that the city will have the biggest trouble dealing with.

Th only way it'll be broken up is if the police go in there & use necessary force they'll need to remove them. Trouble is, the campers will just move somewhere else.

I think Quebec gets the next Flames/Thrashers franchise to fail in Atlanta.

Well, I think just off hand that if Atlanta fails then there's Houston, Portland, Or, Kansas City, Oklahoma City & maybe Milwaukee or Cleveland in line before Quebec gets the Nordiques back. Bettman for some reaason just doesn't want Quebec despite their new 18,000 seat hockey arena which ain't so new anymore at 10 years of age. Just goes to show how lucky we were to get the Jets back when we did with a small arena. Bettman didn't stand in the way for us to get the Jets back despite all the negative crap he had to put up with from Winnipeg fans when the team went to Phoenix in 1996.

Agree with a lot of your assessment of the BC roster.

To be fair Rigmaiden was only mad GM in Nov 2024 so a lot of the brutal contracts are millstones he inherited.  Obviously I’m not a Lions fan but just for the health and competitiveness of that franchise, I think we see Rigmaiden make his mark over the next offseason and beyond.

BC fans are fickle. They're either all in or all out. Attendance could go to 35-40,000 or fall to 15,000 dpending on the team's performance. And they have an owner spending a lot of money to try to get fans to the games. Ringmaiden was also an Asst GM so he was in on those bad contracts.

For sure, but then you have guys complaining more about short weeks between games.

There is no perfect schedule with 9 teams.

Unfortunately, there are no Canadian cities clamouring for a team. I was hoping Canadian patriotism & pride in our unique brand of football would get people back into the other 8 teams football stadium across the league but there's no Elbows Up crowds coming to the games. They'd rather travel to Seattle, Buffalo or Detroit to watch the NFL.

Ouelette won the game for them, Maier rode on his back.

Yep, pretty good assessment. Amazing just how good Ouelette became once Ka'Deem Carey showed up. I will say that Ouelette wouldn't have got the yards he did against the Als or Bombers.

Perfect example of a game manager. His gold standard is not to turn over the ball and hope the D and ST’s excel.

Maier was able to pull off that victory because BC is just so bad. Had the Riders played the Bombers or Als with their young starter, they'd have lost. Masoli just gave the game away. Never been a fan...

It’s kind of worked out for us so far, but I think it’s absolutely idiotic we’re about to have our second bye of the season before B.C even gets their first. How in the world does that make sense? Oh well, glad Oliveria is working his way back, I’m curious to see if they let him sit knowing we have the bye and he can come back fully healthy in two weeks time.

This bye system favours some teams & not others. The NFL plays a 17 game schedule with just one bye. I'd be in favour of getting rid of the third bye as it just exyends the season. Just go with two.

    BC just looks awful

BC is just an awful team. They continue to put all their financial resources into their starting qb (Rourke) & his receivers. And a DE who has one skill: rushing the passer. Their defense has basically stayed the same with a smaller DL that has a hard time stopping the run & a secondary that has no support from the Front 7. Ryan Ringmaiden is supposed to be this genius GM who found all our talent in the late teens & early 20's before departing for BC. I see nothing that makes me think he took care of all the holes on the OL & defense. Buck has his work cut out for him.

If BO is back then Person for COoley makes a ton of sense...Woods is still hurt i think

Bailey for Weitz too would make a lot of sense...I don't think 3 import oline is a dire need...we need to play Wallace and let him develop....and hes hardly looked outta place

We also need to develop a speed/power end so this is the perfect opportunity

Do you think the coaches think Vanterpool could slide into Stanley Bryant's LT spot if he retires after this season?

So … don’t find from other leagues and don’t hire anyone who doesn’t have head coaching experience ?

I honestly don't know what the solution is. I know that as Wbbfan says, we no longer are the innovative league we used to be.

  13. 5 hours ago, wbbfan said:

I’m not talking nfl retreads, realistically that isn’t likely no matter what with the cap even if it went up.
I’m talking young minds from down south. The cfl is so far behind the 3/4 levels of us football in innovation now it’s really sad.

The systems flat lining of innovation up here is going to exacerbate the leagues demographic problem.

We can't attract those coaches anymore. It used to be an assistant or HC job in the CFL was a prestigious one, Just below the NFL. Now, coaches in the US would rather coach D3 or NAIA before coming up here. The low dollar, low salary, high taxes & cost of living & lack of mrdical & pension benefits just kill coaching opportunities for young guys wanting to come up here & make a career in the CFL. Not to mention the expansion of coaching staffs in the NFL & opportunities in the UFL make it nearly impossible to find quality US assistants.

I definitely agree. Once the existing head coaches retire or die, we should just fold the league.

Yeah, well to me bringing in someone who has been rejected time & time again is a real ballsy move by Hervey as it could blow up in his face. The culture of losing is even worse in Edmonton than it was here before Mike O'Shea was hired. When Osh was hired by the Bombers he had time to rebuild the culture. The team wasn't going to fold. They were loing money but the fans still showed up. We'd still get 21-24000 per game despite the losing. Princess Auto Stadium was never as empty as CWS is now. These are dire times. The  Elks have to win now. Killam can't afford to go 0-5 or 1-6. The new owner wanss to see results. As far as coaches dying, hardly. There's always talent coming up. I'd look to hire  a successful coach from USports & give him a shot over a career STC who has been trying to get a HC gig for a minimum of a decade or more. That's just me. You may have a different perspective, Mike.

Give us Ceresna for him and they got themselves a deal!

Why in blazes (trying not to swear) would a guy like Jake Ceresna leave the Argos for that dumpster fire in Edmonton? More money? To go through what he went through a couple of years ago with all that losing just to do it all over again with the Eks??? Tyrell Ford I get as his brother is with the Elks but what a stupid decision for Ceresna. He could pick & choose as a free agent where he could play & he chose the Elks. Have a fun year losing, Jake.
