  1. Yes, it was the same for me in the mid 70's.
  2. So have a lot of people. TBH, I don't care if he kicks for us or not. He can try getting to the NFL till he's 55 if he wants. I wish him all the best.
  3. I used to regale myself. Especially after a game in the bar lamenting that shot that got away from me as I missed the broom. There were more than a few of those during my career.
  4. I couldn't believe it myself. Kids in Alberta have no clue about Canadian history. My youngest actually read up on our history over the years & knows quite a bit about it. So, where does he end up living? Seattle. My oldest here in Calgary doesn't care about Canadian history. Knows nothing about & doesn't give a ****. Ask him about Vimy Ridge or Dunkirk & he knows nothing about it. The Alberta Conservatives took Canadian history out of the curriculum many years ago. Interesting that the NDP didn't put it back in when they had the chance.
  5. We loaded up on offense this off season If Schoen has another big year he'll demand a big payday or he'll be gone to another CFL team. He may try another kick at the can in the NFL. Either way we'll have to pay. What will that do to some high priced veterans? I think some older players will be retiring or moving on. That will open up some more cap space to bring in some defensive players into the mix.
  6. That's my point. Isn't it up to the canadian educational system to teach students about our history?? People aren't going to suddenly wake up at age 35 wanting to know who Wilfred Laurier was. Or what was this jet fighter in the 50's our Canadian engineers developed & Diefenbaker killed at the strongly urgent demands of US President Dwight Eisenhower?? Those things are just getting washed away in the rivers of time.
  7. Proof? What proof??? Why would I lie to prove a point here? What you're asking is impossible to do.. That would be like asking for proof what the Grade 12 curriculum at Churchill High School in Winnipeg was like in 1968. I worked at Centennial High School in Calgary for nearly 10 years as an Educational Assistant. From 2005 to 2014. They had no history courses available to students back then, They had one Geography class that studied the rise of European Nationalism. I wanted both my sons to have studied Canadian history but there wasn't anything they could take. Other than that, it's all I can tell you. Same thing at Lord Beaverbrook with my older son.
  8. When I watched HNIC back in the late 60's & early 70's, I was Tony Esposito pretending to make all those saves. Or leaning on a broom or hockey stick in our basement rec room like Ken Dryden.
  9. I know. I took it.
  10. So, has their been a curriculum change across Canada? My sons know nothing about Canadian history. They graduated in 2005 & 09. Canadian history was not offered in junior or senior high in Alberta. That means there are Canadians in their late 20's & up who know nothing about our history, heritage & political system.
  11. It's not Canadians fault that they know little about their country historically & politically. Canadian history isn't compulsory from Grades 10-12. It's not even taught in high schools anymore.
  12. Understood & I know they were part of the original provinces in Co0nfederation. However, a province with 173,000 people having 4 seats. That is disproportionately unfair. Alberta with 34 seats & a population of 4.3 million works out to an average of 126,701 people per seat. In PEI that works out to 43,250 seats per riding.
  13. Prove me wrong. Look at PEI. Why the hell is that place even a province? The suburb I live in here in Calgary has more people. They have 4 seats.
  14. My dream was to play in a Brier. By the time I was 25, I realized my dream was over. Curses to those skips who didn't give me a chance to compete at the provincial level. I tried, I really tried. I'd spend sleepless nights wondering why others got a chance & I didn't. Why didn't they realize I was a human being like them with dreams, emotions & feelings? I was a helluva C Group curler at the Fort Rouge CC with a solid.... SOLID... 55% shooting average. I needed someone to say. "Hey you curl like a piece of crap, Give it up already. The only way you go to the Brier is if you buy a ticket".
  15. Well, it's probably time for Lirim's agent to say the NFL dream is over. He can sign in the CFL & make some decent money. The longer he stays away, I think the more money he loses. The CFL is already trying to cheap out on kickers by recruiting world kickers. So is Randy Ambrosie's CFL 2.0.
  16. I watched that movie. It's just a piece of crap all round.
  17. Ever wonder why the studios used well known white actors to play racial roles? Money, pure & simple. They felt even if John Wayne or Mickey Rooney were miscast in a role, especially aracial one that the name Wayne or Rooney alone would bring in audiences to watch. Was that racist? Maybe. Probably. But the studio heads were there not only to make profitable movies. They were there to make money for their shareholders. They didn't care how wrong it was, How bad it looked or how embarrasingly disgusting it may have been. They were driven by greed. How many actresses had to sleep their way to the top in Holllywod back in the 40's, 50's & 60's?
  18. Oh, can the histrionics. You weren't even alive back then. Why would you be embarrassed? You had nothing to do with it. Worry about today's world where you can effect change from your position as a broadcaster. Not about a world that is long gone & you can do nothing about. We need to learn from the mistakes from the past & move on.
  19. It was 1963, not 2023 don't forget. I'm not defending the CBC as I'm no fan of the newtwork anymore but the time & the circumstances were different from today. Why would a writer, producer or director in 1963 be concerned about what you thought 60 years later? The series wasn't filmed for you.
  20. We're talking kickers. Not sailors from a shipwreck. Every personnel guy in the NFL knows who Lirim is & what he can do. If he was what they were looking for, he'd have been signed long ago & still kicking in the NFL. There's obviously something they don't like or trust in his ability to kick a football thru the uprights.
  21. Michael Zenon who played Joe two Rivers on Forest Rangers died earlier this year at age 89. The date of his death unknown. Zenon, who was born in the Ukraine & came to Canada in 1948 with his family. Before he became an actor, he had many interesting jobs. He worked as an oil worker, bulldozer operator, driller, miner, trucker, depth sounder & dynamiter during the construction of the St. lawrence Seaway. In order to play Two Rivers, he wore a black wig to hide his blonde hair. Zenon was not only an actor but he also later became involved behind the camera as an Assistant Director for which he continued until his death. In his younger days, he liked to race Porsches & belonged to a few race clubs in Southern Ontario. Zenon as an Assistant Director on the set of the Movie Body Parts.
  22. You also are a realist. How much salary can a player lose until it's not worth it anymore.
