Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
SpeedFlex27 replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Last time we had a streak like this was in 1972. The CFL had 16 regular season games back then. The Bombers sold out 7 of their 8 regular season home games. Capacity at Winnipeg Stadium as it was called back then was 25,210. The only game that wasn't sold out was the Montreal Alouettes on a cold & very rainy (mixed with snow) late September eveningt when 22,000 fans showed up for the game. Including Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau who was in Winnipeg to meet with Premier Ed Schreyer. -

His buddy James West should be in there as well. -
Dustin Crum

He plays the same all the time, No sense of urgency. He does put up big yards in a losing cause, like Harris.
-
The HC signs off on everything. He has the last word. The DC may have certain personnel he wants to play but if Coach says no, it's no.
-
Who is the guy with the droopy head who looks asleep in his stance? Jake Thomas the guy with the third highest reps on the team. Jeezus.
-
Brandon Alexander & Collaros was hurt as well. However, I get starting Collaros even with a bum ankle. Posters here going after the members they think complain too much & then they throw up shade making excuse after excuse actually keeping the merry go round going. The coaching decisions cost us those Grey Cups. The 2023 Grey Cup with all the injured players, especially with Biggie playing on one leg, Schoen barely able to run & was a non factor...etc, etc. Last year playing Collaros with a severed finger on his throwing hand. That's all coaching decisions.
-
Osh didn't move on from those guys because he felt there were better players available. The injuries forced him to. If Biggie could play at 45 years of age & run a 6.5 forty & have a vertical jump of 9 inches then he'd start.
-
Schoen (bad knee still favouring), Wheatfall (great potential still learning. Can't be depended upon yet to make the great contested downfield catches), Demski (great old pro who get by with guile & experience. Isn't the same guy he was even 2 yrs ago) & Clercius (may be a diamond). I rate them 9th. Didn't have to be that way, either.

He became a cheapskate amid these massive profits the team is now reaping... Why? Yeah, we have a veteran team but so what? A GM should still be aggressive even with a veteran team signing free agent players to push the guys already there. So, we sign a veteran free agent who pushes out a player already at that position. So what? I look at that as an improvement. Not just handing a guy like Thomas a starting spot every year. If Thomas is our best & the coaches actually think the players behind aren't as good as he is, then they all need to be swept away. Other teams do that but we don't. There seems to be a few sacred cows on this team with O'Shea.
-
I doubt this group strikes fear in the hearts of DC's throughout the league, Wheatfall is still learning & Demski can't do the things he used to. If Schoen is out or playing injured then teams can take away Wheatfall's deep threat. Clercius is a keeper but is strictly a posession receiver. The other guys, well...

Yeah, totally backward. The Grant thing as well. Comments here about Grant going radio silent in th off season like he's off the grid. Really? I'm sure his agent can find him if a new contract was offered lickety split. Just a bunch of stupid excuses, Consider this: We have the worst receiving corps in the CFL without Lawler. We're also the worst kick & punt return game in the CFL. We can't find an impact returner if the team's survival depended upon it. And we let the best returner in CFL history just..... go. What's he being paid in Toronto? Something like $85,000 Canadian? Like WTH, Walters??? Trey Vaval looked promising but he seems to be fading...
-
Walter's approach is totally different than it was decade ago. Back then, he was aggressive in free agency trying to build a contender. He was willing to pay for players & take risks & eventually he accomplished his goal as it paid off with GC wins back to back in 19 & 21.. I don't want to say Walters has become fat & sassy but this isn't the same guy as GM he was even back as recently as 2017-18. He comes across as he doesn't have to fill holes on the team as they'll fix themselves. He hasn't had a great off season in years. Players, coaches, & management leave & it's like the Stamps old mantra, "Next Man Up". Which is all well & good until there's no more Men to step up as the Stamps found out this decade. We've won because we had great depth but you can see that depth is being depleted & getting thinner. He seems to let Osh have total control on the roster, like who plays & who doesn't when our HC needs to be reigned in. As I said, not the same GM as he used to be.

Whyte is Mr Automatic but Buck pushed the envelope on that second last play. He got lucky.
-
Frosty is a basketball fan? Well, talk about showing us a side of you we never knew...
-
Yeah, we let guys like Lawler & Grant go & keep that useless Thomas in the lineup.
-
It's a dumb thing as is a 150 people on every CFL team's bench.
-
No idea why the East Division is like that.

It's galling when we see how Walters let Janarion Grant & Kenny Lawler leave. Two veterans who are still impact players in this league. We refuse to pay & yet we have no problem paying Thomas big bucks to do nothing as he's a 200 year veteran -
I notice how you chose to clip off the first part of my sentence which read, "It didn't have to be that way but suddenly this past off season, Walters is a penny pinching GM like former Maple Leaf owner Harold Ballard was."

Osh keeps playing Jake & the defensive performances of others slid when Thomas is on the field. We need some true DE's to spell Vaughters & Jefferson & some real push from the middle to collapse the opposition pocket & create problems. Jake is so out of his league, it is hilarious but as fans watching, it's truly not. I wouldn't be blaming those 2 for subpar performances. I'd blame our DC & HC. -
They never challenged the field vertically at all last night. Even when it was 37-9 Stamps, we still were dinkng & dunking. I mean, the Stamps secondary is improvd from last year from the looks of things but they're not THAT GOOD. I think Zach's longest throw was 22 yards. That shows you just how bad our 9th ranked receiving corps are. Wheatfall is our lone deep threat & he was invisible. It didn't have to be that way but suddenly this past off season, Walters is a penny pinching GM like former Maple Leaf owner Harold Ballard was. We're hosting the GC ffs, why would they pick this year for financial restraint? The fans have supported this team now for 4 years giving the Bombers profits like they have never seen before. They deserve a lot better & didn't get it this past off season.
