If we got franklin imop its instead of glenn as the no2 to fight for the starter spot. If its the other way then man id be scared. hes not tee martin. Bryan bennet is a tmartin clone. Crazy all round athlete with a strong arm but poor accuracy who had to have the system simplified and limited to easy shorter passes. Franklin has the touch to throw the deep passes, and decent accuracy short/medium. But in college didnt have strong location. Over leading wrs and throwing behind etc. Not out right misses but hitting edges of windows or missing windows while still getting completions. Also a guy who ran a more simple system. I dont think our system is actually very good for what he likes to do. He likes deep shots and big plays too much. Certainly the OL and coming to a team that was lead by D and teams but has a good number of gifted wrs would be a good fit for any starting qb. I could see ott moving on from harris and if hank retires thatd be a great fit for him.

Willy was an over pay for a high potential qb who could be elite. Similar to whats going on with franklin right now. Nichols is a solid starter. he had a huge up turn this year, but guys with a ton of starts dont tend to have high up side. after soo long you are who you are. as it is if we retain nichols we have to hope he retains form. Expecting him to take another big step forward is a good way to disappoint your self. With poor ability to connect on deep throws, you dont have elite potential in the cfl. Medlock having the best year in league history for a kicker, the defense shattering the team record for turn overs and the OL turning from one of the worst to one of the best led us to the play offs. Prior to this year we had nichols remember? he wasnt the savior of the franchise with a swiss cheese OL. He was worse then willy. Franklin is a huge gamble. I hope we dont go crazy and get him. if we do, its gotta be as a back up / guy to try and take the starter spot instead of some one like glenn. And even then thats a lot of asset investment in QB.

Its not a salary cap issue... its a publicly owned team with a mountain of debt and despite a turn around year mediocre attendance. As in total money problem. Im not worried about carrying on with greater failure, if we see a bad first half next year i dont think mos last the year. But then paying him for 2 more years and paying another HC could be crippling. What do you mean getting stingy with qb money again? Weve been paying pretty good money for qbs, the only thing i can think is glenn. Who was older perceived as injury prone and not a mack guy. he wasnt a cost casualty he was a gm who thinks hes god casualty imop. Id like to know where you got 1 year contract from that... as in, what have you done lately. as in defending grey cup and coach of the years being fired the next year as in coaches who didnt miss the play offs in years getting fired etc. Unless your name is buono, you dont have a long leash. Giving 3 year deals with the half life of a HC in the cfl is a huge gamble with little reward.
-
every coach in the cfl (unless your name is buono) is year to year. Shorter term deals with options would be much better coming off far too many years of paying a fist full of coaches not to coach here. The turn around this year was great, but if it isnt sustained next year and mos gets canned being on the hook for 3 years of salary would be brutal.

I hope its true. But ill believe it when i see it. 1 hank has a healthy ego for a family of 5. 2 he could get a ton of money, and 3 its very very rare for a guy to actually go out on top like that. If franklin is on the trade market, he could push down the qb value in FA as well. Thats an interesting idea. I think durant is going to see a bunch of wooing and play it up some. IF im him my priorities are play off team, strong OL, and a system that works for durant.

Nba nhl and baseball play 80-162 games vs 18. With games often every other day for teams in baseball and hockey. With 30+ teams you need a TON of refs working full time. Vs having a couple days a week. Its too rewarding to take a hail mary review on PI. And the refs do too poor of a job getting the reviews done in the allotted time.
-
The hold back on nichols wasnt injuries prior to this year. it was lack of yards and especially touch downs produced. How is durant worn out? Same int to td ratio as nichols in the same amount of games, less picks and more yards. With a horrible OL. Hank is a nut case, and lost his job for the first half of this year and when he came in the team looked worth then with harris. Best qb in the league over the last two years? not even in the discussion. Bennett and davis as passers are very similar, but bennett has shakey at best accuracy. Not losing any sleep if we did lose him.
-
no qb who cant throw the deep ball is worth 400-450k in the cfl. If hank doesnt retire, and if he + durant dont sign before FA begins nichols value goes way down. Hes worth around that 350k range at tops. Wouldnt be against him being able to earn 400-450k if he produces elite level TDs and maintains a low turnover rate but he certainly hasnt shown to be able to do that currently despite his big up turn this year.

1, you cant control teams making hail marry and frivolous attempts, as we have well seen this year. 2. as we have seen since review began, the few challenges we have drastically slows down the pace of the game. 3. It encourages the border line calls too much. Minor, minor PI on a WR a mile away from the play over turns a pick 6 etc. As long as you have a time out, you should be allowed to challenge a play. Attempting to re challenge a play that was allready re viewed should be delay of game. Maybe if you lose 2 challenges in a row you get a delay of game too. So you get 1 free review per half. If you win, you get another. If you lose, you can challenge but it will cost a time out. Ive long felt that we NEED pro full time refs. Its a stupid hard job with a massive impact on the games. Having it be a 2nd part time job is awful. Return PI to football rules. not soft for flag football. The problem with softening the calls away from the play is it opens up the game to cheap shots when the ball doesnt go in that direction. Really the solution to problems like our kick return TDs called back is to play more disciplined football. That, and getting rid of the ticky tack bull crap calls.
-
100% ridiculous. Makes me sick that he took that stance. how many times did we see entire halfs where one team got a bunch of flags and the other team none? This was the worst season of reffing ive seen in atleast 15 years. The early 2ks and late 90s may or may not have been worse. Hard to tell at this point. I hate he horrible PI calls. We also saw a TON of inconsistency through the year with regards to cheap shots, late hits, and UR.
-
allready a regular season dynasty. They are just the worst of the dynasties when it comes to play offs.
-
Oh i dont doubt it. Id take any one over half the guys we are subjected to by TSN. Id rather listen to dave ritchie talk in riddles. I muted out almost every bit of TSN this year for OB.

Hard to say. Blink was even deadlier catching the ball out of the back field, a better rusher and was amazing on teams. Blink is def the better over all back and player. Harris is a more effective blocker, but blink as mike sellers battering ram was pretty effective too

if we know one thing about the riders, they dont care about league "rules". He fooled more people then any coach in history. Too bad most of them were his own players.

Its true, look at other cities with similar cultures. They have the same problems. -
Hed have more yards ands Tds then half the qbs in the league LOL. Remember the horrible mug jobs DBs used to get away with in the late 90s early 2ks? Not to mention the BS some defenders got away with when it comes to cheap shots. (cough cough phillion) The pendulum has swung far too much in the other direction. milt used angles to get away from A LOT of faster dbs. He got run down from behind many times. But it was almost allways a case of a DB just making a fantastic play. He would zigg zagg and instead of trying to walk the side lines (in heavy part due to his play over the middle) run to a corner making the DB have to run a much longer distance and maintain that intercept speed. Seriously american or canadian milt is one of the 3 wrs every single college/HS kid with greater aspirations in football should watch religiously.

Trade Barker & Milanovich for O'Shea & Walters?
wbbfan replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No chance what so ever. Im not by any means a mos fan. But I wouldnt give up walters for any of that. And im not sold on milanovich as a head coach at all. Plus Not a barker fan at all. The only interest id have in milanovich would be to replace plop as OC. and i wouldnt want to give up any asset for that. -
Certainly not slow, even in his last years struggling with injuries. He was football fast. Blink also got a ton of use on kick returns and did even better, but was quick and not fast. Milt was more well rounded. He wasnt blazing speed world class track runner fast. And he wasnt blink quick. He was in between with the ability to beat you with one move or in an endzone sprint. Even if he had to take an angle. Yeah he had better use of gears then the huge majority of WRs. Part of that was his incredible athletic ability, and part his savant like genius football IQ. damned right. He took some horrible shots and still played. And at 185 pounds. Blink gets the much deserved credit for being tough. Running at 171 (allegedly) up the guy through people and not being taken down by arm tackles (unless they held his jersey LOL) but milt played over the middle and made his career playing full speed in the danger zone, in an era of football that was much harder nosed then now. Now if you sneeze too hard you get a penalty.
-
yep, heard it too. And its the truth. He wasnt the blinding speedster some seem to think but just an over all athletic monster. Soo many football players come from track as sprinters. He was an endurance hero. not to mention as crafty as they come.

the support came back in full force during the 01 era run and the swaggerville era short lived as that may have been. Its not the cumulative effect. Its the current teams momentum and the diversity of the sports market. Winnipeg has long had a reputation for not being good at integration. Not just for immigrants and different ethnicity groups but even canadians moving from other parts of the nation. Its a cultural problem driven by the blue collar low brow broke af nature of the area. Would love to see an out reach program for migrants to get a bunch of tickets to go as a group with some of the friendly blue fans who can show em the game and our team. -
mediocre sports market thats over saturated with various products. And thats as a raps/jays fan. Ill never forget the bangwagon jumps and exoduses the franchise has seen. Still soo torn on who i want to win less. The stamps are soo douchy. especially BLM. But then the RBs winning with a sub .500 record as such a new franchise with our own futility makes me sick. Really wish some how both teams could lose.
-
yeah for such a regular season juggernaut they are pretty reliable play off chokers. Idk who i want to win less between the RBs and the stamps.

For his era, lancaster was as much an nfl style qb as existed. Dont forget that era the nfl wasnt nearly as rigid as its perceived currently for passers. Brian brohm ran a spread offense in the ncaa. Not a pro type offense. BLM is 6'2 brohm was 6'3. Drew willy also wasnt an nfl prototype for qb. Good size and tenure but QBs who struggle to throw to an area of the field (deep in his case) are low ceiling dime a dozen. Buffalo isnt exactly an nfl puppy mill either. Not so many schools run the old I form/pro form 2 wr set constantly any more. The NFL has made a lot more use out of 3 wr packages on the whole with some even running a spread offense. The line between an NFL, CFL, and NCAA "Style" qb is very blurred now. The NFL has more running qbs then the cfl. Which starter in the cfl is a threat to rush for 800+ yards any more? It makes it even harder now then it used to be to find qb talent young. Guys will get a year on the PR to see how they learn and adapt that never would have gotten a sniff of the NFL in the past. So small schools do yield some benefit. Those guys tend to get over looked more. And having a small school QB who crushed his competition level is better imop then having a big school guy who was mediocre. A guy like gage gubrud (eastern washington) with his performance in his first year starting will probably still get a decent NFL look. The key to finding qbs imop is to prioritize skill set and to aim back at guys who are running out of NFL time. Dont fall soo much in love with the amazing athlete who cant toss it down field, find the guy who doesnt have the NFL bulk weight, has a good arm but not a crazy arm but the accuracy and touch to complete a pass to any part of the field. Despite the long time prototype of the NFL looking for rocket laser arms playing a pro offense and facing top competition, today the NFL looks for guys who put in a lot of starts in college, has great accuracy, and adequate arm strength. The physical attributes that make it hard to get picked up these days physically are under 6' and 200 lbs or under. But you dont see those guys with the regularity you used to even in the ncaa.

Next .... What changes will bring a Championship?
wbbfan replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If its not its gonna be a take him out behind the shed / old yeller TC for him. Would have liked to see waggoner get more snaps at LBer. He was really really good on teams this year. It should be a very interesting camp for young nucks next year. At this rate it seems like if we want the grey cup in town, well have to rent it from calgary >.> -
great skill set, right pass port, but hes never lived up the hype or stayed healthy. Will probably still bring a premium pay day in too. kyler elsworth would be a good addition. Made a bunch of plays in MTL in TO mostly played teams, where he was very good. Llevi noel and james yurichuk 2 nucks who are also good teamers. I Like llevi noels skill set too. Hes be a great sleeper pick up. His contribution over all compared to some one like addison richards would be a strong upgrade. I might take a gamble on johnny aprile at this point our NI wrs should be real un comfortable. Id bring in as many as possible to push and try to find some thing. Maybe louis richardson if we wanted to have a chance for trent corney to start. Other then that it never hurts to bring in a vet NI OL on the cheap.
