He proved he could qb a wining team, and play well enough to win in the play offs. Now we have to see him sustain that, and if he can do it with out a crazy amount of turn overs and record FGs. Also to nichols being team nominee for MOP, it hands down should have been mo or medlock. Thats some thing every QB in the league needs to reprove every year tbh. Even the elite qbs. You can go from MOP to back up to forgotten very quickly in the cfl. (ask khari) Individual stats dont mean a lot when the unit under performs. Like wes lysacks massive tackle total his last year here as a saftey. Nichols is in a similar spot and tier as the tigernaughts qbs, durant, glenn, and harris. All have won to some extent and proven they can excel giving the right win criteria. Any of em could be an elite qb this year. Any of em could be out of a job this time next year.

He got better in the post season. Towards the end of the year we saw the worst of nichols, behind a banged up OL though. But his play off game against BC was hands down his best. And he is that type that excels in the last minutes of a game. Weve seen far older QBs turn over new leafs in the CFL. With that many stops it could very easily cause him to pay less mind to OCs n coaches. Some times it takes the right coach instead of a ton of coaches. Most on here are banking on a nichols turn around, so i dont think you can rule out one for fevour too. Im not saying its gonna happen, or even that its probable. But it certainly is possible. Eh weve seen gunslingers have great success in the cfl. I fully believe it can still works. If you are putting up 3 tds and 2 picks a game you are probably still gonna win a lot of games. Id say a 4/3 or 3/2 and maybe some higher ratios gives you a better chance to win then if you put up 2:1 every game.

And among play off teams our offense was dead last in nearly every category and was among the lowest in the league in terms of passing yards, and tds. Despite an earth shattering number of turn overs from the D, we kicked a record number of field goals. All that with one of the better running games, and Ols in the league while nichols was under center. Not to mention very good teams out side of kicking and ever dangerous returners. Any idea how many will be packed in for LD? Ours and the battle of alberta should be the highest attendance games of the year. He had 1 maybe 2 of those. Nichols more then a half dozen games in a row with a pass that was a bad drop or great break up by the wr.

Thats a pretty decent comparison. Id probably go buck pierce instead of glenn. Glenn has gotten by on quick release and good touch. Nichols doesnt have as good deep ball touch or the release. But he has a stronger arm. Last year he came up with a huge TD saving tackle on a fumble, or volley ball'd pick 90% of qbs in the league dont make that play. Im not worried about the pick 6. Im worried DBs do a better job of jumping his passes this year. And that tds wont go up. Lots of guys break out, fewer sustain it or improve. This year will probably be the first time cfl teams are game planning for him. Or atleast doing so with a decent sample size of video and stats.

Its tough to project a partial good season over a full year when that player hasnt had a good season like that in the past. The question really is can he sustain such production? The missed turn overs, and big gaps in performance (halfs of games, late in the regular season etc) are reason for pause. I think at the very least he will have to play better then last year to produce at a similar level. But either way we are on the cusp of finding out.

I havent gotten to watch it yet. That would make sense. This is not a team where you can dog it on STs. Kinda drives me nuts. Nearly every single player in the CFL could be a lifer in the NFL if they committed to playing hard and smart 100% of the time on teams.

A few other DBs, roc, and smalley have played out of their minds so far. I think most of us are shocked about frederick. Hes plays the same way randle does. Had some good coverage dunno. They prolly feel the other guys have more upside. We are stupid deep at DB. Especially with fogg, mo, and loffler. Or, he is basing it off nichols individual performance and not the teams. Nichols even in his good games last year tended to disappear for quarters and halfs at a time. His play late in games, and in the western semi is what really showed promise. He threw a lot of passes that should have been picked, and got some great blocking up front, plus the turn overs. Imop this view is fairly representative of what most fans around the league think. The same way people thought about him in EDM. guy who you can grind out wins with. Wont blow your socks off with production but wont cost you games. The first half against us last year he threw 3 or 4 tds didnt he? Yeah hes a guy who shows some great flashes then nothing. His mentality is a bit like jennings in bc. He will force some passes into bad spots and start throwing some real ugly passes out of the blue. That may be some thing thats coachable though.

Was there much of a jump in price from old stadium to new? The new digs look pretty sweet, gonna make LD classic soo much better. Also, does it have room for expansion? Im probably the most down on nichols among bomber fans. I feel like what we saw from him in the first game was similar to what we saw last year, but with rust. Lefevour did come in awful late. His performance has to be taken with a grain of salt. I had lefevour as favorite to become the no2, especially with his experience. But if davis plays at the same level in the next game he could be the no2 qb going into the season. Lefevour also fits the system very well.

I hope apodaca is PR bound. But maybe they have eyes one some one even better. I like frederick, but he is redundant with randle. With fogg, smalley, roc and mo coming back we arent exactly hard up. I could see frederick getting a call from another team.

Guys who can collapse the pocket and get after the qb up the middle with regularity are worth their weight in gold. And johnson seems to be that guy. Its what they hope ekakitie and butcher and evolve into.

Yeah, i imagine 1 guy Di 1 guy starts. Probably 1 on the pr. A lot of guys there goin to the waiver wire. * maybe some one like thorpe sticks on the IR and moves to the PR when healthy to get a good look at em.

Oh i dont think we will carry all those DTs. I should have added jake thomas to that. If poop ends up on the roster, it probably spells the end for one of the three candian DTs. Namely butcher if some one is straight up cut. Maybe some one goes to the PR and some one hides on the IR though. And yeah jeffcoat looks like a keeper too. Some real long nights in store for the coaches, walters etc.

With 1 game done, 1 game to go and few days in between it seems like some of the position battles are still really muddy. Poop johnson seems to have really muddied things with his play. I could see us starting Hurl at MLB, johnson at the 2nd DT spot and using butcher/ekakitie to rotate an imp mlb or db in. Aside form hurl at mlb, knox and temple combined for some good pressure early. Though temple wasnt playing mlb. santos-knox had some good plays too. At the final wr spot, lankford seems like he'd be best as a DI to return and sub in. But like mlb it doesnt seem like any one is stepping up to take the job. It seems like itll be down to the wire, but walters also talked about doing some cuts early to focus reps on the heat of the positional battles. Loved mos talking about every guy having to go into every football activity with the mind set of keeping his job. Cept medlock. But hes a kicker any way. The rest of TC should be really intense now. Especially with how mos sounded post game about a tie. He seems to take the tie worse then a loss.

Is sergio castillo a FA still? He looked bloody good for us last preseason / camp. Yeah he did. Liggins catch looked pretty dang good on the replay. Washington iirc had a couple called back and has looked good in camp. The tier of WRs on the bubble all have some pretty interesting skill/size/athleticism. They are gonna have some tough choices on that last wr spot. Being able to return and a legit threat to score is really gonna help lankford.

No kidding. Dont expect a lot from the refs in the cfl but they still find ways to disappoint.

thats the exact same way we made the play offs last year remember? By beating any pressure, taking what the D gives you and YAC. If you try to force passes against against our D you risk a pick.
