Probably. Idk if either would fetch that much at this point. Martin maybe they keep as a mentor as much as for production. I think that would leave us with like 3 pitchers total. If you are talking hard throwing high pay right handed starter i think you have a case. That kind of guy could lose it quick fast and in a hurry. Lefties, relievers and finesse pitchers tend to have the shelf life of an MRE. Even after they go bad they still go down for a fist full of years. If you are gonna fire sale that many guys you will have to be taking Low a / high A / rushed prep school players / low ceiling college guys. Low up side or low percentile chance to ever play in the majors. Not worth the risk imop. Better to slowly sell over a year and have the aura of building rather then re building. Teams that rebuild go into free agency having to spend elite money on guys like BJ ryan, and selling the farm for post prime vets.

In the cfl the vet cut day is soo far back in the season you arent likely to be stuck paying some one hurt and regret it unless its a QB. Hoping for it, no thats a bad plan. Taking it if it comes is fine. Like JFG, remple (iirc) and a few others. -
THAT is a pass rusher name. And he should be played by LT in a movie starring the rock. Or series or what ever.

http://footballgameplan.com/feat/hunts-scouting-notes/ "This was my first viewing of Bell’s game from a scouting perspective. I’ve watched NCCU over the last two seasons from an analyst standpoint and I’ve been on record saying how much Bell has improved his game over last season. This was a great showing from him from a reading the field standpoint and mental toughness standpoint. First, the athleticism he has at the position is clearly evident. Bell has cat-like quickness to get himself out of trouble and above-average short-area burst to split defenders. From a passing standpoint, he shows the ability to throw with touch at all three levels. Certain routes he tends to flatline, which could cause tipped passes. He throws well on the move to either side. At times he’ll force a throw over the middle of the field that’ll get him into trouble, but overall, he has all of the requisite tools you need to succeed at the next level. I came away very impressed how he handled the blitz and 3rd downs. This is where the mental toughness part came into play. Bell routinely ‘did what he had to do’ to keep plays and drives alive. I think he still has growth in his game." career numbers of 57% completion, 6340 yards, with and average pass of 7 yards, 42 tds to 33 ints. 42 passing tds in 42 games, but he clearly didnt play much of the first 8 games he dressed. Only watch some of the highlights reels, but he does have a ton of em up going back to HS. The scouting reports n stuff say he improved every year. But production looks better his first year starting (14) then his senior year (16). But it is certainly harder to be effective when you are on a team 4 years and start 3. Especially as a mobile qb. I like that he is a 3 years starter and spent 4 years in the same system. A lot of the young guys we bring in seem to be guys with very limited experience and who bounce between teams a lot. He tends to reach back on his passes, and some times fall into a wind up motion. It slows down his release a good bit. But he does play much better and quicker when rushed. Really shortens up his release and gets it out. I like his elusive speed and movement. And that he knows where the first down marker is when he runs. Too bad we didnt have him around for mini camp. Should be fun to watch in TC. He and applejax (apodaca) give us an interesting battle for developmental qb. Both are young, athletic and have tons of up side.

What struck me most was the excuses for missing the open man. His pre snap read combined with the way the defense played soo shallow should have made it clear even if it was 100% obscured. But then that type of thing always rubs me poorly.
-
Yeah would have to be nuts to trade either of them. I think you start at the top of the old long in the tooth types (bautista) and trade your way down. Getting young guys who are in the majors or as close to the majors as possible. And trade till you are at a point where trading more is a move leveraging 1 year more or less. Estrada would be about the end of the group of guys id want to move. Though he may be the guy that brings the best return of what you would want to move.

I think the argument against would be Richards up side plus JFG for a steady guy means we dont need watt. But with cfl vet deals not being guaranteed and watt not being a guy whose gonna get a monster bonus to come the cost difference is moot. We arent in a position even with watt of having too much competition at a spot (see montreal and qbs last year) and its our lowest production spot so certainly a push would be good. I think richards needs a big push this year any way. -
Agree some what. I think in some rare cases its warranted. When a core gets old and a team hasnt been drafting well and has no young MLBers of note and or guys close to the majors. A side from that I dont think trading all stars for packages of low ball prospects is a good way to build any thing but a store of high draft picks.

The injury riddled jays have dug back to .500 after half of april was an utter disaster. If they played .500 in april and stayed healthy wed be in great shape. I would be in favor of a build based around young MLBers. With in the donaldson and young pitchers window. Not a rebuild as in trading for blue chip high A ball prospects. Especially not trading guys like stro, sanchez etc. If they had been more patient and not tried to rush with the mega trades for vets a few years ago we would be the envy of the league.

Im not a fan of that move. Hes just found success for him self, i dont think he played AAA, hes on the wrong side of 30, hes never thrown 150 innings in a year at any level, etc. You risk ruining a nice bullpen arm on a guy that wouldnt be reliable to throw 200 this year or next year. If he was a young guy, with electric stuff like sanchez the switch makes sense. At worst you may lose a year and a half, then send him to the minors for half a year to get him ready again to be a reliever. That kind of time isnt projectable with his stuff, and at his age. Every team needs a bullpen, and every good team needs a good or great bullpen. In our current situation id go out and get a long reliever or two. Rotate them through AAA and the big club as needed. At this point I think liriano is close to becoming a long man, reliever or a loogy. So maybe move him to the pen, get another vet or AAAA long guy to go up and down, and trade for a back end starter.

I think the only person ive ever seen him wanna punch like that was the ref that called roughing the passer on lamar mcgriggs late in 2k against the als. Or a few other refs, and maybe ed philion. This is butter, some guys like butter.
-
Imagine if we could get down to like 4 pitchers a game? With donaldson and tulo back, if our starters can get deeper into games this team is gonna be a real threat.
-
Idk i liken nates rants to more of the dave ritchie talk.
-
This is what ive gotten too. If he kicks like young jon ryan. But if he did and punts that well in college next year couldnt he be drafted by the nfl? Idk which would give him a better path to the nfl, here or college. If hes at camp though and spares medlocks leg some work for TC thats a win though. Considering we got that pick for free from going down 2 spots to still pick gray. He shows the promise and upside though.
-
Pretty much, sans the nate talk. Which i some times miss. It doesnt really seem that different aside from a nicer lay out.

Watt would be nice. I also like vaughan. Wouldnt mind having him case one of our 2nd year guys take a step back. Imop watt would be the better WR while JFG the better teams, blocker etc. -
The real issue is with how green he is. He played soo little in college its scary. Football smarts doesnt allways equate to report card smarts, but that how hard does he work etc all gonna be vital to see if he can stick. For our development guys we really seem to look past experience and the lack of it. Maybe thats the only way we see to get the tool set and up side at QB.
-
he actually took less to leave too. better and better, jose seems to be warming up too
-
It looked like the triple option offense really didnt fit well with him despite his speed. Seems more like a scramble to throw and keep the D honest type. Really good looking prospect to groom.
-
First class and no class at the same time. Even on the forums he gets no respect!

college listings are all too often hokum. Being 230s and playing end against tackles even in the cfl is a huge task. Gavin walls and joe the monster are the only ones i can recall that really pulled it off. Gavin was a thorough breed pass rusher and phenomenal athlete. And so was montford That was also a whole other era athletically. -

nailed it. What we need is gear that doesnt make you feel like the juggernaut when hitting but protects like it from hits. -
I dont think much of ontario, LV or ny either. I really dont think well of any that i can think of. Some are of course a cut below the rest.Fighting taxi cab drivers in mexico n junk.
