It's time for the Riders to start sucking ...
WBBFanWest replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yes it's all a conspiracy, started by those evil Winnipeg reporters. It's only going to "galvanize" them. Right. And when they go 0-5, 0-6, and then 0-7 they will be so galvanized they will be statues. hate to say it but if we go 0-6 I hope we do go 0-7 then cc won't survive the bye week. Hate to have him sneak into bye week on a one game winning streak only to have Taman say "I think Corey is really turning things around" Taman's a survivor, always has been. If he starts to feel that he's in trouble, he'll drop CC in a heartbeat. And then, to continue the pattern, right after will come the "Taman's hands were tied. He was just doing what Corey wanted" stuff. As evidenced by all the people he fired to save his own ass here in Wpg?? Why yes, yes it is. -
Another interesting stat. In 2015, 100% of drives that ended in a touchdown, the scoring team was awarded a minimum of 6 points. Similar results were found when looking at data from 2014.

If we make the playoffs, O'Shea is safe and should be. If we miss the playoffs, then a lot will depend on why. What I don't want to see is the coaching roulette we're suffered through over that past decade or so. My only issue with O'Shea at this point is what I see as unyielding loyalty to specific players and the odd (sometimes very odd) coach. That can be corrected. Yes, he made a dumb mistake last game, but after listening to him post game, I'm reasonably sure that it's not going to happen again any time soon. The way I look at it is that I assume that being a head coach in the CFL is a challenging enough job that one year is not enough to say "ok, no more rookie mistakes". Unless things completely melt down over the remainder of the season, I would hope we would stay the course for at least one more year.

Ok, when they award the "damn near won the Grey Cup" Cup then swagger away, but somehow, I don't think that's going to happen

Nothing wrong with it if that is what entertains you. Lots wrong with it if it doesn't. For those who dislike it, it smacked of arrogance, with players who were more about themselves than the team, and spent time telling people how great they were because it wasn't evident enough on its own merit. And I get the whole "it ain't bragging if you can back it up" concept, but if you are that good, your play will speak for you, not your proclamations. They were good, but the West-Battle-Jones-Brown era never had to brag because everyone feared them on their reputation of performance alone, and no one needed to be told how good they were, because everyone knew it just by watching them. They didn't have to convince anyone (maybe themselves?) with hot air. Plus, that arrogance comes with a healthy dose of humble pie and comeuppance when you lose (like touting an interception you made when losing 35-0 in Edmonton, right Jovon?), and that comeuppance can attach itself beyond the players to the fanbase. To each their own, I guess. Neither approach is right or wrong objectively, just a personal preference about how you like your professional athletes to act. I'd prefer my team spend time in practice working on fine-tuning football drills rather than choreographing TD and sack dances. And yet they did back it up .. that defense single-handedly won games for this team. That defense single handedly kept us in games when TOP was heavily in the opposition's favour .. when our offense went 2 and out time and time again. . Comparing those guys to West .. Battle .. Jones (in terms of how they carried themselves) is comparing apples to oranges .. it was a different era of football .. but those guys also played with attitude .. and swagger. I have slowly come to realize that a great many people who disliked (resented?) "Swaggerville" are simply upset about how the team (the whole organization for that matter) simply imploded. These individuals are using a very visible, vocal part of those teams as a focal point for their disappointment. Others simply have an 'old school mindset' and cannot (will not?) recognize the changing times. I for one will never begrudge those guys their celebrations and antics when they were often on the field for 2/3 a game. As you say .. to each their own. When you are hoisting the Grey Cup over your head, you can swagger. Until then, let the scoreboard do the talking

Being that the center acts as the "qb" for the O line, I'm not real surprised that they would go with a veteran over a guy that has almost 0 playing time. Goossen might get reps at guard at this stage, but not likely at center. Now, on the second or third play of the game when Neufeld goes down, then maybe he gets his big chance.

Suggestions for us old timers... and thoughts on long term
WBBFanWest replied to White Out's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I do know that while we aren't quite there yet, you have to be blind to the fact that we seem to be moving in the right direction. For me it's a game by game thing. Some people seem to think that we were going to go from the bottom (last year) to the top this year instantly, without any growing pains whatsoever. We're 2-2 but it's like some people here think that anything short of 4-0 is a complete disaster. So before we march on the Bombers offices, take a breath, calm down and let's just wait a see for a bit, shall we? -
After watching the game I'm disappointed that we didn't win, but still, there is a lot to like about where we are right now. If this team continues to come together, we're in the hunt for certain.

Five players fined after week 3.....Picard!
WBBFanWest replied to Fatty Liver's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Not a huge fan of cheap shots, but I'm sure that there is some of that going on in the line a lot of the time. I can remember some of the stuff that went on when I played HS ball (dang, those leather helmets were stylish ). So if you play the line, you have to expect it and be willing to give a little bit of that back. It's the smart player that can do it and not get caught. -
Depth people, depth. It's a long season and we're barely into it. Let's maybe keep a few guys around, just in case. Ok?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why in the world would Hervey have to prove anything. A contract was offered and accepted. If the player wants a 1+1 then the player should demand it and refuse to accept the offer on the table. -
Well in that case it could be "well he was close to the goal line and even kicked the corner marker over, probably good enough to call it in and review it to be sure" I just don't see how a lot of stuff like that isn't just called and left up to replay. It's just one way for the refs to be lazier. Maybe I'm being naive, but I find it very hard to believe that a pro level official would call something that he didn't see and go "Meh, If I'm wrong, they'll pick it up on the review." I would hope that if a ref was using the review as a crutch, it would soon become apparent and he'd be an ex-ref.

At what point will O'Shea start going for 2?

Sucked, relatively speaking. We walk a fine line in this league. We need players to be good, but not too good. -

One thing to remember is that Lirim's struggles might affect his chances at a NFL look-see. Bad for him sadly, but potentially, good for us. -

And speaking of sucking, Mr Style seems to be sucking up big time to the last forum that will have him: http://www.riderfans.com/forum/showthread.php?130413-Deep-Thoughts-by-Luc-Mullinder "THere's always a core contingent of team supporters who will die by the sword for their team. Even if they get off to a 0-9 start - this type will just look at the back half and say 'hey, if we can take the last 9 by surprise, even if we lose one of them we could still make playoffs at 8-10 or 9-9, who knows?' Admirable but unrealistic. Having spent the bulk of my life in Winnipeg I can tell you from experience how difficult the last 25 years have been - and when the internet fan forums hit about 15 or 16 years ago how the opticons found unique ways to criticize negatrons vs. really focusing on their team and its woes. I got beat up and super-torched more than a few times for suggesting guys like Bauer, Kelly, Asper, Daley, Hodgkinson, Timid Taman, Burke, Slow-Talkin' Joe, Barfko, Reinbold & more were nothing more than highly paid inhalers of money. Losing teams usually hunker down (in their own way) and just try to extend the program. Its actually easier to hunker down and lose than put together a quality winning program that excites the fanbase. I've noticed at Riderfans the place is far more sophisticated (perhaps skewing a bit older) than bomber fan bases. Most criticisms are dealt with by counter-argument on unique sarcasm - but usually personal attacks are minimal - I suspect cuz most of those launching PA's (aka Personal Attacks) know they'll have their posting rights suspended (ie. banned) That's the beauty of quality fan sites. And riderfans is the best football site in the country - bar none." -

The Bombers win and the Riders lose. Yep, gonna be a good week! -
The Bombers found a way to win. Ultimately, that's all that matters and that's a sign of the team moving in the right direction. Better execution in the red zone and a stiffening of the defense (say to allowing fewer than 400 yards in a game), and we're pretty close to being there.

[MERGED] Drew Willy Watch And Fine Discussion
WBBFanWest replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Oh please, Dunigan is more than a fan. I think he knows a thing or two about hits to the head and QB mental awareness with his background. I'd take his opinion with a little more salt over anyone here. Just a quick note on that particular idiom: generally, the more salt, the less you trust. So saying that you take his opinion with more salt means you trust his opinion less than others! -
