  1. Quite the weak rebuttal. Says a lot about your argument - or lack thereof - when all you do is deflect. The simple reality is the Jets have been a budget team while management restocks the cupboards and builds a franchise through draft and development. Nobody here says it's fine or even alluded to such a notion. It's called being realistic and understanding the conditions in which TNSE has to operate. I'm not sure why disgruntled fans can't or refuse to understand this.
  2. Glad you're not in any way employed by the Jets. You'd have shipped off Scheifele three years ago had you applied the same kind of poor logic. Hellebuyck, who is basically a sophomore at the NHL level, hasn't even hit the age where most goalies finally start to show, BTW. It's also pretty insulting to call the GM "The Invisible Man," not to mention very inaccurate. Consider what he was given back in 2011 and what he's managed to do since then. Just because he doesn't make trades at every trade deadline doesn't mean he's done absolutely nothing. Fans who expected a turnaround with this franchise and a suddenly perennial playoff team - in the NHL's smallest market - are not being realistic at all.
  3. IIRC, the Jets' offer was declined by Trouba's camp. That doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't want to be in Winnipeg, though. It could just mean his camp thinks he's worth more. Based on Overhardt's track record, I have to think he influenced Trouba's decision to sit.
  4. That's just it, though: the "smoke" was his not wanting to play on his weak side and believing he could play more minutes. The rest was just rumours and hearsay. I heard everything from his Dad having problems with the law to his girlfriend being unable to find work in Canada. None of that was ever substantiated. He got what he wanted after re-signing and he played his arse off for this team in 2016-17. There's been no "smoke" ever since.
  5. Red zone production for the offense needs to be better, specifically through the air. Hopefully, an additional camp and pre-season help the chemistry with the offense and they can build off that cohesiveness as the season progresses. Also thinking LaPolice may have added some tricks to his repertoire.
  6. While at the same time dumping on people for liking Ovechkin and the Capitals...
  7. Exactly. Sitting for a month last season didn't help his cause, anyway. I still can't understand this issue some fans in Winnipeg have where they think they worst of a situation. Especially when the majority of us know nothing behind closed doors.
  8. Agreed. Both were pleasant surprises last season.
  9. That isn't some hard and fast rule, though. And I'd imagine some have been fans of those teams since there was a pro hockey team in Winnipeg. My late grandfather was a diehard Red Wings fan his entire life. What I don't understand is younger people who are fans of non-hometown teams. Leafs fans below the age of 40 who live in Winnipeg confuse the hell outta me.
  10. I still can't believe the US lost to Finland earlier today. Nice game by Team Canada so far. Scheifele's PPG was slick.
  11. And we still don't know how much of that is true, either. There was a lot of speculation as to why he wasn't re-signing last year and nothing was really ever confirmed or denied. His agent played dumb and when Trouba did re-sign, he chose to leave the past in the past. He played his side and played big minutes this past season - two things he apparently wanted in order to stay. He was easily the team's best defenseman last season, so I hope both sides can work out a deal in which he's a Jet for the next several years.
  12. Sounds like something I won't play - just recycled ME on a current gen console. Thanks for the synopsis and feedback! HZD is fantastic. If you're a fan of the open-world/sandbox genre, this game hits the mark. The map is absolutely massive. It also incorporates RPG elements in terms of the protagonist's skill sets and weapons/armor. The content is extensive (unique setting, solid main story with a ton of additional missions/side stories), the combat is engaging and requires strategy, and exploring the environs never feels tedious. Guerilla Games really knocked this one out of the park, IMO. This review basically hits the nail on the head: http://nerdist.com/horizon-zero-dawn-is-the-machine-hunting-action-rpg-of-your-dreams-review/
  13. Quite the read. Thanks for sharing! I hope they manage to sign him soon. He seems to have a lot of potential and you can never have enough O-line depth, especially of the NAT variety.
  14. I hope not. This past season of Trouba's play should show management he's a key asset to this team's future.
  15. Winning is a team accomplishment; a goaltender alone doesn't determine wins and losses. Did you watch the Jets play this past season? Or the one before? One of the worst defensive zone teams in the game... Embarrassingly inept at times. Besides one apparent aberration of a season in 2014-15 (and then they were exposed in the playoffs), their 200 ft. game has been exceptionally poor. Not a single netminder on this team since relocation has received adequate defensive support on a consistent basis. Until that changes, it'll be difficult for any goalie to be successful. Look at the top teams in the league: strong special teams, especially the PK; a complete 200 ft. game, with an emphasis on solid defensive zone coverage; depth across the roster, namely on the blueline. The Jets simply aren't there yet in regard to any of those aspects, and that is a symptom of inheriting a dumpster fire franchise. I understand the impatience and wanting to win now, but that's just not how it works with this particular team at this time. TNSE is building through drafting and developing in the hopes to have sustained success. It's frustrating but fans only see a part of what's actually taking place. I'm not sure what anything thinks is accomplished by firing everyone, either.
  16. Analytics have proven useful, at least in the NHL, when the majority of teams use them and the league itself gets behind it.
  17. Russell Wilson's sample size is also considerably smaller.
  18. Boy, those Senators are so boring.
  19. What's your take on it so far? I was a huge fan of the first three games (not so much the last one) but the reviews and feedback from friends has kept me from buying it. One friend who absolutely loved the first three games said Andromeda was underwhelming by comparison. I'm currently hooked on Horizon Zero Dawn. An absolutely excellent game.
  20. "It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times...?"
