The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

Hulu released one final trailer for King of the Hill. Tomorrow's going to be fun

And I finished up King of the Hill.....same time next year guys? This was worth the wait and I dare say it's up there with the Ducktales reboot even though that is a reboot and KOTH was a straight up continuation

Finished Sandman- what a series, wish there was more.

Dexter Resurrection is shaping up pretty nicely too:

Lot of people hated season 2 of the Sandman.

there's nothing on the CORUS entertainment press releases that says they're shutting down (though ABC Spark doesn't surprise me because ever since Freeforms original programming ended and Spark stopped airing Hocus Pocus on Halloween I stopped watching. And as for Nick while I was happy to revisit Rugrats and Doug WHO THE HELL CAN WATCH ALL THAT SPONGEBOB?! EVEN I GET A LITTLE FATIGUE FROM WATCHING HUDSON AND REX EVERY MORNING

wow I thought for sure that YTV was going to have a serious Monopoly on Spongebob, but it turns out Nick shows are being purged from YTV and Treehouse......this could hurt both channels even though I don't give a crap about Spongebob

and it's getting even worse....I feel like we just got the Wildbrain channel, what sucks is that we're losing Goosebumps and AYAOTD all over again.....is Goosebumps cursed it's like whenever a network picks it up it only lasts for like a couple of years longer (which is what happened with Teletoon Retro)

Curious how much CTV/GLOBAL make now.

well Hank and his crew will be back for sure next year (it had good ratings and good watch minutes) so I want to see what will happen next, like are they going to recast Dale again or will Toby Huss keep that, and will they re-recast John Redcorn? I want to see a little more of G.H. and Dee Dee I'm glad we got one episode with them, and *Spoiler alert* see if Bobby and Connie will take that trip to South Korea, I want to see an episode centered on Bobby's sous chef and on Hank's new neighbour. Also I'd like to see Hank get another dog (because it's clear that Ladybird is dead) if it were up to me I'd name it Lucky Luanne (even though and I found this out recently that Brittany Murphy did get a dedication when the last 6 episodes aired on Cartoon network and they did play a Tom Petty song in episode 2)

oh well....man I can't name a D+ show that's had more than two seasons besides Mandalorian and High School Musical the Musical the series

What's a D+ show? I take it you mean not very good or bad??? I watched The Mandalorian & strongly disagree. I thought the storyline was strong & the special effects for a tv series were spectacular. Usually shows that blow their budgets on FX don't last long which was true of the Mandalorian. That is The Way. (That is The Way).

I have tried to get into Andor & can barely stay awake watching. I've stopped, started & stopped trying to binge watch 3 times. I'm giving up. The show is bloody boring.

They have already created/recorded the 10 additional episodes from what I understood.  I'd imagine that John Redcorn is involved in them and Toby Huss does the voice of Dale.      Now if they decide to make more episodes down the road I hope they keep Toby Huss,  his voice sounded more like the original Dale  IMO  after watching these new episodes.   The original voice actor sounded off (I'm assuming because of his illness?)  and it was quite noticeable.

D+ she is referring to Disney Plus and not a school grade.    The Star Wars franchise I believe has been saturated and the latest shows (Acolyte and Skeleton Crew) have way lower viewership numbers then The Mandalorian.  With the crazy costs of 10 - 15 million per episode I can see why these series are  being canned.   The Star Wars franchise is hurting so much that Disney keeps milking The Mandalorian and trying to shoe horn other characters for spin offs (see Season 3) and they are moving the next part of his show to the theatres with a Mando + Grogu movie.    It's one of the few franchises that is generating money and interest.

For @iHeart -   The reason why Disney + and Netflix and other streaming services have shows with only 1 - 2 seasons is that streaming services uses a formula where they don't want to spend money long term and instead continously pump out shows as the cheapest that they can.  Net Flix is more guilty of this but their are  multiple interviews and articles talking about how they'll order 2 seasons of a show and unless it becomes an A+ smash hit that they will cut the show off because they don't want to spend the money for any pay raises and bumps in salaries for additional costs.   The streaming services has an endless supply of people willing to make new shows (or reboots of old shows) so rather then let a show get into a groove and grow over a long period of time... they would rather throw one show after another against the wall in hopes that one sticks.    So even if a show is positively reviewed and starts gaining momentum... they'll rather cut the show off completely and start new with something else because that new show will be at 20% less costs for them.

Streaming services still in my own opinion haven't figured things out and I'm not a fan of it.   King of the Hill was dumped all in one day which in my opinion was dumb,  but it was done because "if" it was not a hit then they would of cancelled next season and move on and  then market and pump out something else.    I would of rathered it been released on a weekly basis to keep my interest in Disney Plus and King of the Hill over a 10 week period rather then watching it all within a week and forgetting about it.   It's just the throw everything at you kind of approach in hopes that you like something and that you will keep your subscription.  Quantity over quality.

I agree with you on Andor. It's nothing special & as I said, it's quite boring. Skeleton Crew, just ugh???!!!
