How long till someone gets hit by a vehicle trying to cross Portage & Main? Being killed? That intersection when it's winter & minus 25 with a wind will be brutal to cross as a pedestrian. Those skyscrapers just make it a wind tunnel.

Good article by Scott Billeck. I think its fair to say up to 33% dont want any help, they dont want to be moved and its people like that the city will have the biggest trouble dealing with.

Th only way it'll be broken up is if the police go in there & use necessary force they'll need to remove them. Trouble is, the campers will just move somewhere else.

I believe the original plan called for a few of the skyscrapers having patios at the intersection. I couldn't imagine eating with all that noise and wind.

I don't think the fatalities will increase, it won't be as bad as higgins/Logan and main where lots of messed up people attempt to cross the road.

There are much busier and more dangerous intersections - should we block those off to pedestrians?  People can get hit on any street if they and/or the drivers aren't being careful, Portage and Main is no exception and shouldn't be treated like one.

I'm old enough to remember P & M when it allowed pedestrians before being closed in 1979. It should be noted that most Winnipeggers didn't want the intersection closed back then but city planners knew best & closed it anyway. I felt the same way.

So I've had a couple of trips on Winnipeg Transit's new Primary Transit system, and so far it's been going fine for me (it hasn't really effected me negatively) I get why some people have problems with it since their normal stops were being discontinued)

And today I took the practice trip to my workplace, it went rather smoothly

I get there are those that are having difficulties especially students. I really hope that they decide to freeze the price in the new year or lower the the price a bit to make up for it

I've been having smooth rides under the new transit, I wish that transit would make it easier to go to the Kenaston area

But still no on demand for Transcona

So it looks like Home Hardware will be moving into the Pembina Peavy Mart

Wonder if it will go into ours (mostly because it would be nice to have one close by whenever Scene+ does its gameboard)

Smoke and flames spewed from a downtown restaurant in Winnipeg early Thursday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Boujee Restaurant & Bar around 5:45 a.m. and found an active fire inside the building at the corner of Main Street and York Avenue.

The fire was declared under control within an hour and no injuries were reported, a news release from the city said.

Oh dear I hope there wasn't much damage

lol. There was. Downtown smelled like burning plastic. I was hoping the homeless encampment was on fire, the smell made me hopeful then on main I see it, the former earls building up in flames. It’s pretty much completely destroyed

I am sure they had insurance, just not the right "street insurance" or it wouldn't have been torched.
