Free Press (Fan Vote) Picking All-Time Blue Bomber Greats
Goalie replied to comedygeek's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
never any doubt IMO Fans name Ken Ploen best Blue Bombers quarterback http://bit.ly/Xx2mc9 -
I like Pontbriand and Fitzgerald but... I think they are nothing more than good blockers and solid special teams players.. They are good foot soldiers i guess you can say but that's about it. I think Pontbriand is a very good special teams player and is also the captain, I think they are in the roles that suits their talent (or lack there of) the best. IMO, Fitzgerald is a very replaceable player on the team, Pontbriand? replaceable but not as much as he seems to be one of those heart and soul type of players and a leader.

Dad never cheered for any other teams. Kind of ridiculous to say that he bandwagoned. Watch the big bang theory? If not, you should and pay attention to Sheldon, Mr 17 to 85 pretty much plays that role on here perfectly.

bombers need BC to lose a couple games, dont matter which ones, starting tonight would be good.. But really, if they can beat BC in winnipeg in a few weeks, about a month really, then they control their own destiny, Bombers aren't out of things right now, not by a long shot, Think people are also forgetting that every other team in the west have played the eastern teams too. Calgary 7-0 vs the east Sask 4-1 vs the east Edmonton 6-1 vs the east BC 4-1 vs the east Wpg 5-1 vs the east Means that the majority of teams wins have come against the other division. Who knows what will happen when the western teams play the western teams more and I wouldn't write off teams like Toronto or Hamilton vs the western teams either, They aren't as bad as their records indicate they are. Injuries to the argos and ticats have really hurt them this season. Toronto took Calgary to the brink last week, Hamilton lost to them by like 3 points, Lost to edmonton in a game where their starting qb got hurt by less than a fg. Those teams can and probably will beat some of the western teams, and not just the bombers. Those teams can give fits to the other teams just as easily.

No doubt about it, Kenny Ploen all the way. Too young, way to young to have seen him play but honestly, from the stories i was told about him back in his day, nobody comes close, maybe Indian Jack Jacobs but... that goes way back. -
Calgary is the team that you want to model yourselves after.. Canadian Depth, heck man, they had the best record in the league last year but had the first overall pick, Huff ain't playing around, why did he get that first round pick, outside of Desjardins stupidity, it's cuz Calgary has the depth at basically every position to make moves like that. Trade Gott? No problem, we will take Lavertu and still play Jones. Calgary is an example of what patience leads too. Depth Depth Depth, guys get hurt, guys come in, those guys get hurt, other guys come in. It took Huff years to get there, Calgary was in a bad place a few short years ago, Huff came in and changed things up and what you see now is what you get and what you get is probably the best team in the league all around, qb depth, rb depth, defensive depth, OL depth.. They are stacked. It took time but... look at them now. It wasn't too long ago that that oline lost tsoumpas to retirement. No tsoumpas? no problem.

Like Mike said, we just brought in 2 last week, Pall and Pierre, but.... I think we need to realize this, and it kind of sucks but it is pretty much a rebuilding year for the team. Is one or 2 american players going to make a difference right now? Maybe but it's unlikely. Could we possibly discover a couple of gems? Maybe but again it's unlikely at this point in time. We are holding a couple private workouts on September 20 and 21 and I believe the other one is Oct 4. Buffalo Charlotte and somewhere else i believe so we are doing recruiting still. Can we find an Adam Bighill at one of these workouts? Maybe, but... probably won't know for sure until next training camp. The reality kind of is, what you see right now is what you get. I understand people want these guys to come in and dominate but that rarely to never happens, especially late in the year..Mike Sims Walker last year was somewhat of an exception and even then, he really had 1 good game and got hurt or something happened there. When the PR's expand, we will see guys brought in. Until then, it is what it is and think people just need to accept it right now. Would it be nice to find a dominant MLB or a dominant DE or DT, sure it would be... but i think the likliness of finding those guys right now, having them come in and make a huge impact is asking for a bit too much. Hey, we have been in every game this year really outside of the Edmonton game (where both teams played like crap) and last week where our starting QB got hurt, hell even then if our Offence could do something, we'd have had a chance. This team isn't as far off as some think they are but on the flip side they aren't as close as some think they are either. Give it an off-season, give it some time, Patience is difficult to have but it's needed right now. The only way to become dominant is to be patient. Quick fixes don't exist. As for Canadians, man, they are all long term/project players at this point in the season.

Hawks Wings and Sharks for sure but... I'd be kidding myself if i said I didn't cheer for the Canadian teams to win when the Jets were gone. Seriously, I could watch any Canadian team play except the Leafs, Cant' stand them, Can't stand the CBC homer announcing for them, Just hated the leafs and still do. Honestly, they are the only Canadian team i would cheer against if they were playing an American team in the Stanley Cup Final.

Whatever. Well, what do you expect when you make a ridiculous statement like comparing helle to pav after one friggin game. This is exactly what I expect from you, snarky bullshit when you don't like someones opinion. And personally I don't care about yours. Whatever.

Who said the run is not a problem?

Actually it's in reference to Reverend Jim Jones and his cult followers. The analogy goes like this: People are so fanatic in their belief that they drank poisoned Kool-aid, even knowing what it was. It's a common analogy to describe fanatics. Do you understand now? That would make everyone on here a kool-aid drinker then because the word fan is short for fanatics. Thanks for the explanation though kool-aid drinker. It still doesn't really apply to a football forum though, I mean really, the bombers are now a cult? o'shea is some cult leader? You do realize how stupid that sounds right? -
Bob Irving Interview with Henoc Muamba
Goalie replied to Nasty Nate's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
MItchell is on Toronto's 46 man roster You sure? thought they signed him as a free agent and then released him due to some sort of injury he had. -
I've always been a fan of the Red Wings and Blackhawks, Also really like the Sharks back in the day. I'm Latvian and The Sharks had a goalie by the name of Arturs Irbe, I got to meet him when i was very young when he played in Winnipeg through some of the Latvian folks in the city. Was cool. Got a picture, I am probably 5 or 6 maybe 7 years old with him. LOL

Ticats rumoured to be signing DE Justin Hickman. Pretty big signing if true. Ticats have quite a bit of high priced talent on that team now.

LOL. this is so wrong on so many levels it's crazy... Kevin Glenn? Dude you are confusing what people on fan boards said. Noone in the bombers ever said Glenn was an option, they actually said the opposite, said he wasn't. You got it all backwards 1. Willy and Collaros (he came available first) 2. Willy and Burris (he only came available after the ticats signed collaros) 3. Willy Common them in all those options, Drew Willy. Stop pretending what fans on the forum wanted is what the team wanted. Kevin Glenn was never an option. Ever. Not once. Only to a few people on these fan boards. I'm not sure that the guy who is completely unaware of the Bombers inquiring about Kevin Glenn even after we had acquired Drew Willy should be telling me that I have things backwards. The Bombers were very interested in Kevin Glenn, we just weren't willing to give up Goossen to get him. In other words, we didn't want him that bad. That was after we signed Willy too so to have Glenn ahead of willy on your made up in your head list is ridiculous.

Depends really. What if the receivers are dropping balls? What if Brohm is getting crushed back there on every play because our Oline sucks. Lots of variables here, I'm sure with a few practice days Brohm will look better, If not, then next man up for sure but gotta give him some time to show what he's got or doesn't have. Don't think you know that after a half of football unless the guy looks totally lost out there. I would let Brohm stay under center, as long as he can get some first downs even if the O can't score. Otherwise, sit him and it's Marve's time. Probably not, Brohm will get a game or so to show what he can do, with a week of practice or so he should be better, Can't throw the guy under the bus like that, guess some have learned nothing from all the other qb's we have thrown under buses after their first start in the league. If Brohm looks terrible, sure marve can go in but that's not just all on brohm, it's on the other guys on the field too.

Don't know why i feel the need to ask this, but... What the hell do the rider fans expect Cortez to say? Yeah you know with durant out ,we are ******... we are so screwed, our backups are total crap. Man, i'm going to have to redesign the entire offence now because these quarterbacks don't even understand what the C in CFL means. Seriously? Of course he is going to say what he said, just like last year and the year before our coaches said oh yeah buck pierce? oh yeah max hall? oh yeah justin goltz? oh yeah alex brink? oh yeah joey elliott, For sure we are confident in them but bet your ass reality is they were pulling out every last remaining piece of hair they had when they had to play these guys. Of course coaches are going to try to stroke the young qb's ego a wee bit, he's not gonna come out and say we are screwed, he's going to say i believe in him, but reality is, whether he believes in them or not is irrelevant, it doesn't change the fact that his hand is being forced and he's forced to play one of them because durant is hurt for the season. He's done. There are no other options out there regardless of if you think Troy Smith is an option, He isn't, he sucks worse than sunseri really. Fact is, riders have no choice but to play these guys so of course the coaches have faith in them, if the coaches didn't have faith in them, they wouldn't be very good coaches.

The term "drinking Kool-Aid" is in reference to a group suicide back in the day. Everyone followed their cult leader, drank the poisonous Kool-Aid and died. Oh The Texas thing? Ahh ok, well then it doesn't exactly apply to posts on a fan forum then. But ok. -

Not at all. If Sunseri continues to play like he did yesterday then you may have a point, but like many QBs before him, you can't judge after a QBs first game as a starter because then guys like Calvillo, Allen, & Willy would've never seen Game 2. If it doesn't work out with Tino then Doege or Price will step in. One of the greatest QB/offence minds in this leagues history (Cortez) says that Tino has what it takes, Chamblin said this morning that they aren't bringing in any other QBs, that tells me they think they can win with what we got. I think CC & GC know what they're doing. That tells me there is NOBODY out there who they can bring in. Seriously, name a guy, You can't because he doesn't exist. Burris? NOPE. not happening. Is there some experience backup qb out there that nobody is aware of? if it doesn't work out with Tino then it won't work out with the other 2 either, those guys are greener than goose crap too.

I dont understand how some can completely ignore the fact that our Assitant GM came out and basically endorsed Willy weeks before the bombers had "interest" in the other guys. That's the only fact that is out there so to ignore that is just being silly. Think some people are having a hard time distinguishing between what they wanted and what the team wanted, Fact is, most this board WANTED collaros, nobody in the bomber organization hinted at that, not even O'shea when he was asked about it, Just said, i'll just say this, "Zach is a good kid". To ignore that the only guy that anyone in our organization spoke highly of before signing here was mcmanus speaking highly of Willy is crazy. But with that being said, who really cares anymore. We got our guy, he's our starting qb and i'm pretty sure everyone is happy that he is.

This is the same D that held Andrew Harris to under 40 yards rushing the last time we played the lions though. However it was missing a few key pieces to it, Wild, Anderson, Those are big losses on D, can't kid ourselves there, those 2 are the biggest losses by far on this team, both are tackling machines really. You take those guys out and replace them with basically rookies, guess thats what happens at times. Kool Aid drinkers? I've never understood that term, for one Kool Aid is pretty damn delicious, and for 2, what's it mean actually? That some people would rather see the positive than concentrate on the negative? What's wrong with that exactly? But i'm pretty sure it implies there are some people on here who regardless will look for the positives in every situation and not pay attention the negatives but i really don't see that, Maybe one or 2 people but most the board has been critical at times of certain aspects of the team, Kuale,Bryant, Etch when he was hired most knew the run would be a problem, But with that being said, I think most understand and as much as the team doesn't say it, THis is year 1 of a completely new regime, top to bottom really, the only actual leftover in terms of management or coaching from the start of last season is Walters is now the GM and not Macks wooping boy and Marcus Howell, everyone else from some members of the BOD to front office to President to GM to assitant GM's to scouting staff to coaches has changed. Think some are too quick to "jump off the bandwagon" at times, Is the run an issue? sure it is, is it costing us games? I'm not sure that it is actually, it seems to be the scapegoat though, it's the easy thing to point out but it's never just one thing, it's turnovers, it's the offence going stagnant at times, it's 2 and outs the entire second half last game with a green as goose crap qb who threw 1 pass prior to the second half. Does the team have issues? You bet, is it miles ahead of where it was last season and the last several seasons including the year where we went to the grey cup, Your damn rights... If we had this years offence and 2011's defence, we'd be well on our way too but... we don't.. we have a capable yet somewhat at times underperforming offence and a capable yet at times underwhelming defence. The problems in the losses seems to be, one of those 2 phases, one is playing well, the other isn't and to win a football game, you need both plus special teams to play well. It's not just one thing, that's too simple, Its like people who blame Kuale for the run sucking well Kuale was out last game in the second half and BC ran the ball the entire last 5 minutes of the game, No kuale in there yet still couldnt' stop it. Think some look for one or 2 things to blame for a loss and i don't think it's ever just one or 2 things that lead to losses.
