  1. O'Shea never demonstrated any gumption to try for the 2 pt. conversions regardless.
  2. More competition for the CFL. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/01/28/is-lefevours-move-to-mlfb-the-start-of-a-trend MOBILE, ALA. - Well, we now know why Dan LeFevour is no longer in the CFL. The former Ticats and Alouettes quarterback let it be known via social media earlier this week that he had asked Montreal for his release to get a head start on CFL free agency. Lo and behold, two days later the former Central Michigan gunslinger ended up getting “drafted” as one of the eight “franchise players” in the fledgling Major League Football (MLFB). A few other players who had cups of coffee in the CFL were also drafted as “franchise players” on Wednesday: quarterbacks Casey Pachall and Darron Thomas, and receiver Joe Adams. A few more ex-CFLers were drafted on Thursday. There was a bit of grumbling going on at the Senior Bowl this week from CFL scouts and personnel people who were a little perturbed about how the MLFB is going about its business, which is only natural considering the potential for competition is there. The MLFB says it is going to play 10 games between April and June, and pay its players $2,500 per contest. There are eight teams, although only two U.S. cities have apparently been announced as franchise locations. The league said it has a TV deal in place to broadcast its 40 regular-season contests. Players will be able to leave for the NFL whenever they want, of course, which is something the CFL does not allow. Those who are in charge of finding players for CFL teams are concerned about players getting locked into a league that has yet to announce locations for the bulk of its franchises yet expects to attract 12,000 to 15,000 spectators per game in a couple of months. In the end, the MLFB will likely be just another UFL, XFL and FEFL, which didn’t even play title games in its first (and only) two years of existence but appears to still be technically up and running. American football fans have shown no big appetite for football outside of the NFL and the NCAA, and yet these leagues keep trying. The CFL has no reason to be scared of the MLFB, but it is clearly concerned for players who might get caught up in a league that, like so many before it, might be biting off more than it can chew.
  3. Congratu Congratulations to Gabe, hope he has many more BD's. Did Walter's actually make a statement or do an interview today? Link?
  4. You lost me after "Dancing Gabe's birthday", that was a classic non-sequitur.
  5. Big difference, Lirim proved that he had the skills to do the job well in his first year, Brohm never managed to show us that he had any skills.
  6. Hmm, 7 defensive linemen eh? Looks like a good place to start for, at least, a serviceable player. We may be witnessing a Ti-Cat melt down with 2 weeks left till free agency.
  7. They need to have a backup on the roster anyways, so if they can afford the import position run with Lirim and Castillo until things wash out. It'll take until game 4 to find out which version of Lirim shows up this year, good Lirim or baaaaad Lirim.
  8. If Walters wanted to know Dressler's reasoning for signing with Wpg. he might have just asked him. Quotes from Dressler “A lot of the interest started with my relationship with Coach LaPo. Him being the Offensive Coordinator and having worked with him in the past, I’m very comfortable with his system and what he brings to the table,” explained the two-time CFL All-Star. “I understand how his offence works and the spots where I would be best utilized in my opinion, and that’s really the same opinion that he has to develop me as a player.” Dressler received calls from both LaPolice and Willy in the past few weeks, which contributed to his ultimate decision. “They expressed how much they wanted me to be there and be a part of what they’re trying to do. It meant a lot to me to hear from those guys throughout the whole process,” said Dressler. “They were genuinely interested in having me be a part of that team.”
  9. Not saying Medlock wouldn't be a good addition even with his passport, I question whether he will survive to F.A. unless Austin is happy to roll with Hillbilly Hugh O'Neill.
  10. With that thinking it's likely he walks out the door only to be signed by a GM with more vision. Then what? Sign Medlock,... maybe, maybe not. The Bombers could find themselves right back following the Riders model of picking discarded kickers off the scrap heap. Is Paul McCallum still alive???
  11. Being an un-drafted prospect the Bombers probably got Lirim at a bargain price in his first year and they definitely benefited from his pay/performance rato. Second year was poor but I don't think they should use that as a bargaining chip against him. Treat him as a great Natl. asset and sign him for the going rate with faith that he will perform well again. If he stinks out the joint this year then they can think above moving on. Lirim may have squandered his plans for an NFL career for now but I would predict if he can put a few seasons of consistent kicking behind him he will be getting a look in an NFL camp sometime in the future.
  12. I don't agree, this is far too rash. Walters uncovered a gem, now all he has to do is fix his brain.
  13. Me too, he's got the physical tools and most of the mental problems can be patched up with super-glue. If Lirim isn't a Bomber he'll torment us for 10+ seasons.
  14. Hate to bring this name up but Joe Mack was director of player personnel from 84-87 and he did a very good job recruiting.
  15. I think Lirim is gone, the Bombers have been trying to re-up him since mid last season without success. I suspect he wants to play closer to home and family, but not a lot of openings out East.
  16. Won't be too long till Jovon starts putting the boots to the RB's and the rest of the CFL.
  17. I'm okay with one or the other but not both. That's too much money to tie up in two unhappy RB's who don't really like to share.
  18. Word on the Rider's forum now has it that the Riders were obligated to pay their bonuses even if cut as they were deferred payments from previous seasons and probably guaranteed in the contracts they signed with Taman.
  19. Explains the delay, Bob was probably away on vacation. No press conference??? They're missing a great promotional opportunity if they don't have one.
  20. Speaking of foot soldiers I wonder if Pontbriand makes the club this year, he's getting pretty near to the end of his rope.
  21. Stamps has not been the same player since Washington flattened him breaking his ribs in the end zone early in 2014.
