Lawless: Trade Glenn January for Canadians
Tracker replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The chances of trading a starting import for a starting NI are pretty much zero unless it is late in the season and a team needs a decent tackle to solidify a run for the cup. Moreover, I like January's leadership anf if drop another right tackle into Willy's blind side protection, he's going to be pretty much road-kill. But Lawlwss has to fill the page, even if its drivel, and he did get people talking, didn't he? Maybe some of them bought a Free Press. -
For me, I loved listening to Cactus Jack on the post-game OB show and his "happy honker" award, and Jack Matheson on the OB noon hour sports report. Matheson had a mixture of insight and humour that is all too rare these days.

As Toronto is also showing, unless you are maybe the Stamps, there is a very short limit as to how many injuries you can absorb and still compete. Bombers are still in a catch-up mode and will probably be for another year, perhaps two.
-
Carter is still a maybe and we don't know what his ceiling is, but, alas, both we and the Roughies know what Etienne's ceiling is- sort of similar to that of a crawl space.

There is no reasonable argument that I can think of as to why we would be behind Saskatchewan. Explain. Looking at Sask's depth compared to ours and overall talent gives them the edge over the Bombers, IMO. This is why the upcoming game against the Lions has to be critical- it will confirm either the worst of the last game or show that to be a collective brain cramp. If Sask comes up snake-eyes again, then I would concede that they are worse.

Knapp may be athletic but he has to show a lot better against BC or Jarvis Jones has to be in for the next game- and Howard is running out of lives as well.
-
The way we played, we're lucky we're not in 6th, but realistically, right now, with the butt-kicking fresh in my mind, I would have to rate the Bombers behind Edmonton, Sask (ugh), Calgary and maybe even behind BC. If we beat BC, we can claim 4th spot rightfully, if not, we'll be lucky to hold onto 5th place.

It'll take a cosmic shift to change the game rules and the NFL will lead the way. The CFL will follow along like a dachshund on a leash once those rules have been implemented in the NFL. Agreed- if the Darryl Stingley incident didn't change anything, then nothing will.

I wouldn't brag about nose candy if I were you....

My first reaction to this was "oh, poop" as he didn't look all that much of a threat last game, but then, none of offense looked good, so I will give him a Mulligan for last game, but he isn't going to have much time to prove that he's better than his rivals on the team,

There are problems with assuming that concussions in the CFL are inevitable with nothing to be done- there seems to be repeat offenders and players who are vulnerable to them. The repeat offenders seem to think that there are so little consequences to their hits that they do not have to change their mindset to go out and deliberately maim others and on the other hand we have Matt Dunigan who is probably going to have problems for the rest of his life. Surely there have to be better ways of handling this.

If memory serves, EZerins began as a tight end but converted to decent linebacker.

Crap! Vega was one of the bright lights last game. WE are going to need all the muscle we can get against BC, and this is not going to help.

These are BIG guys- wouldn't want to have to pay their restaurant bills.

Dead end link

Which of our receivers do you see as the speed demons who will get the BC defenders into their backpedal immediately? I see our receivers more as possession receivers rather than fly pattern types. JFG has gotten wide open a few times but not because of his speed.

If you re-read his post, Tracker uses the not-oft-used double "has been has been" and that's as deep as you can get. Or, he could be talking about a couple of has beens. I was apparently referring to a good deal of my brain cells.

Performance anxiety?

Finally had a chance to watch the BC-Montreal game- it looked like a total mismatch. The only thing BC missed was remembering to kick sand in the faces of the Alouettes, and Smith, if anything, was worse in his reads and executions than he was in the first three games.Smith looked like he didn't have a clue and the rest of the team looked like the Bombers did last year under the sad assortments of quarterbacks we had. The Alouettes gave every indication that they didn't expect to win right from the kickoff.
-
Since Glenn has strained his Rhomby muscle, BC may want to trade for ours. Whatever passing success Glenn has had has been has been on short-medium routes, it would seem that our linebackers will have to be on their toes and that goes for BC's running game as well.

Maybe somebody asked him for sex. lol Your wife having concussion like symptoms?? Alas, a common complaint for many.

I think its time to take the default position that Watson is on the DL and plan a future without him. He might be good trade bait for a team going into the playoffs and need a good NI receiver to play in the last game of the season.

Bonus Do or Die Detailed Half Time Report
Tracker replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Calvillo among other CFL quarterbacks wasn't any speedster but managed to take off every now and then, even late into his career, to keep defenses off balance a bit. I believe it was last game against Montreal's pretty good D-line when Willy ran for a critical first down. Again, we don't want that as a first option on every play, but a couple of sprints by Willy, even for 4 or 5 yards, may have made a big difference against Edmonton. That. Or Willis may catch him in open field and "cleanly" smash him to bits. Or their new MLB.. Presumably Willy wasn't wearing that ice pack on his ankle after the game because he went out dancing, so sprinting out once in awhile under the right circumstances might not be much worse unless Willy has no self-preservation instinct at all. If he's gonna get clobbered, he ought to be able to slide.
