  1. Only posted my mock draft yesterday and I'm already starting to doubt it.

It could be a giant smokescreen but the interest Ottawa has in Quinn Smith seems to be very real. Could they take him 1st overall?

Wouldn't be a complete surprise- of the top three, he is the only one who has no NFL interest and his versatility is probably a huge asset. If they do take him it leave the Bombers with a real dilemma- whether to gamble on a player who may never play in the CFL or to do the safe thing.

  2. Got a feeling that Winston may choose baseball. Was a 15th round pick coming out of college. He has said he going to stay in school during the winter 2015 semester to play baseball. Although he most likely will be a #1 pick in the NFL there is also a chance he could be a 1st round pick in the MLB draft. If you look at during the length of a pro baseball and pro football career he would probably earn more money in baseball even if he was a middle of the road starter or reliever.

Not to mention having a longer career due to not having 300 lb people chasing and jumping on him.

  3. I predict that CFL teams will have as many wins as they do losses, the league will have some new faces making an impact, there will certainly be a few guys who get hurt and lots of players will either exceed or fail to live up to expectations.

Other than that, I have no idea.

Well, this sorta, kinda sounds vague.....

it was more to do with my supreme faith in Osh. the man is a winner. and even if you guys get taken to the woodshed a time or two, don't lose heart because MO'S is taking the loss >9000 times worse than you are and will never be afraid to change things to try and find a better way forward.

i think Burke is a top DC too and he and Milanovich had some very good times together before but like i said, it isn't just that our D is being reshaped but that it is also being rebuilt (again). losing guys like Mitchell, Ball and Watkins after a year previous losing guys like Armstead, McCulloch, Horne, Caroll... i just start getting an anxiety that we're asking Barks to reach into his bag of tricks too many times.

    What?!!?  9000?!?!

I'm expecting a 9-9 record.  I have several reasons to be this optimistic.

Do these reasons come in capsule form?

  5. The one team I'd cringe if I was drafted by them are the Raiders. I spent some time in Oakland a few years ago with my son at a qb camp & all I can say is Holy Crap. You know it's bad when the guy running the camp tells the campers parents that they need to end the camp everyday before it gets dark so it was still safe for us to walk to our cars in the parking lot outside Laney College. Homeless street creatures were living under the football stands being rousted by campus security. The freeway leading to Laney College looked like a war zone. Houses burned down but still standing all over the place.

Welcome to the dark side of the American dream- the American nightmare.

  6.

It all comes down to scouting & doing the things successful teams in the CFL do to win games & championships. Our FA camps & expanding the scouting department were all things that needed to be done by the Bombers & they did that. What we did this past off season would never have been done by Joe Mack. I have every reason to believe that we will find some hidden gems from these camps like we never had before. Hopefully enough to start building a solid team.

Were we really losing because the rookie Americans weren't good enough though? I thought you guys all liked to point to lack of veterans and NIs as the big problem? Too much blind hatred going on.

We were losing because almost every facet of the team wasn't good enough- not the general manager, the coaches, the scouts, the drafting and most of the players. There's enough blame to go around, so line up.

  7. A note of reality: coaches like Hufnagel and Kent Austin who are immediately successful are very, very rare. With that in mind, as much as we would like to see O'Shea wipe the field with every opposing team, we are probably headed for a up and down season. If we get to 9 and 9, that would be wonderful, and making the playoffs would send fans into ecstatic rapture, but the odds are against us, what with so many changes and new faces.

As a follower of this team for several decades, some seasons, the best we could hope for is to not be humiliated too often, to still be in the game at half-time and have the team be seen as trying hard. Therefore, let us not lose our senses of ha-ha- it will be a long season, and we are going to need all the patience and humour we can get.

  8. The fact he can't stay anywhere more than 2 seasons tells me that there are a lot of red flags with Etcheverry. He either loses his players, they stop playing for him or he has communications issues with them. I can't believe that he gets that restless & likes to move on so much.

Or, its "jump before you get pushed".

  9. Total guess based on nothing but bob irving and others opinions but Kenny Tate and the MLB Mcrath for sure

However, if we have a new running back, he might make the most impact.

McGrath seems to have a very positive attitude- not bemoaning missing out on the NFL fantasy at all. And his credentials seem impressive, so I will pick him to come in to camp and blow his competition away.

  10. More on playbooks:

“When I was in Saskatchewan, we had these sophisticated smart boards where we did our teaching. At the end of every presentation, I would always ask, do you have it? And if every player said yes, I would push a button and it would all be gone,” Etcheverry explains. “And that’s how I’ll work here too. A lot of coaches over the years have prided themselves on stealing ideas from others. The most fundamental way to protect our ideas is to never write anything down.”

That’s right, don’t write anything down, which means there's no defensive playbook either.

The way I remember it, Etch's defense was fun to watch. Hope that's still true.

If nothing else, it will be interesting to watch.
