QAnon-loving Senate candidate wants martial law declared in Oregon to combat ‘antifa’ The Oregon GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate, Jo Rae Perkins, decided to let her “Q light” shine on a Facebook livestream earlier this week—and it was a doozy. Perkins, an unrepentant “QAnon” conspiracy cultist, told her audience that the state needs to be placed under martial law, with the National Guard being sent not just to Portland—where there have been violent protests over police brutality—but to rural places like Klamath Falls and Bend. Her reasoning: Busloads of nefarious antifa activists, financed by the evil George Soros, are fanning out to these towns to wreak destruction. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/qanon-loving-senate-candidate-wants-martial-law-declared-in-oregon-to-combat-antifa/

BUSTED: Key Trump aide caught pushing racist vigilantism on social media Video of a chainsaw-wielding Texas man threatening protesters while shouting the n-word went viral on Friday. While many people were shocked by the video, one of President Donald Trump’s top advisors supported the racism and vigilantism in documented in the video, according to a new report. “President Donald Trump and his allies for years have amplified racist messages on Twitter while simultaneously reaching out to black and Hispanic voters, a dissonant balancing act that’s now rocking the GOP amid nationwide racial-justice protests,” Politico reported Saturday. “The two competing forces collided Saturday on the Twitter feed of Trump campaign senior adviser Mercedes Schlapp, when she boosted a tweet that lauded a man in Texas in a viral video as he yelled the n-word and wielded a chainsaw to chase away anti-racism demonstrators.” Apparently Schlapp thought her post wouldn’t be as offensive if the n-word were edited out. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/busted-key-trump-aide-caught-pushing-racist-vigilantism-on-social-media/

Colin Powell is hardly in a position to be holier than thou. He was instrumental in promoting all the ouright lies that the second Bush administration promoted in ordfer to justify the Gulf War (Hussein was responsible for 9-11, Iraq was seeking weapons-grade uranium and had weapons of mass destruction etc etc) that resulted in the deaths of over a half-million Iraqis (mostly children) and the rekindling of civil conflicts, the eviction of Jews and Christians and the deliberate destruction of Iraqi infrastructure. Powell and the other toadies in HW's regime should have been prosecuted as war criminals. That Bush administration helped to set the stage for the current mess.

The Terrifying History of Bad Cops in Buffalo No fewer than four men of color have died as the result of encounters with Buffalo police in the past three years. Then a 75-year-old got knocked down. This story was published in partnership with Investigative Post, a non-profit investigative reporting center in Buffalo, New York. It’s the shove seen round the world: two Buffalo cops push a demonstrator who falls, slams his head on the pavement, and immediately begins to bleed from the ears. City officials wasted no time in suspending the two officers seen on the video shoving the demonstrator, who, it turns out, is 75 years old and fighting cancer. On Saturday, the officers were charged with assault in the second degree. Suffice to say, this is not a good look for the police. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/we-just-got-a-sneak-peek-of-what-the-november-election-could-look-like/
  8. What was particulary impressive was that there were no police present, nor was there any reason for them to be there. Love this city, warts and all. It has always felt like home, even when I was far away.

Trump Had ‘Shouting Match’ With Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Over Military Crackdown on Protesters America’s highest ranking solider, General Mark Milley, who chairs the Joint Chiefs of Staff, raised his voice when President Trump demanded the regular military be deployed against George Floyd protesters, according to the New Yorker. The verbal tussle happened in the Oval Office just days before Trump’s ill-advised bible photo op, which Milley attended. A senior military official told the New Yorker that the president and Milley “got into a shouting match” with Milley insisting the military could not be dispatched against American civilians. “I’m not doing that,” he reportedly told Trump. “That’s for law enforcement.” https://www.thedailybeast.com/mark-milley-chairman-of-joint-chiefs-of-staff-and-trump-had-shouting-match-over-floyd-protest-crackdown?ref=home

Just to change the tone for a moment, there is very preliminary evidence that the majority of the COVID virus is being carried by what are called "superspreaders". The problem is that there is no quick or easy way to determine who these are.

Bill Barr Says He Didn’t Order Park Police to Tear Gas Protesters for Trump Jonathan Ernst/Reuters Attorney General William Barr has disputed reports that he ordered Park Police in Washington, D.C. to tear gas peaceful protesters earlier this week, claiming police were already en route to Lafayette Square to disperse demonstrators by the time he reached the plaza. He told the Associated Press that he did not order law enforcement to disperse the crowd, casting it as a decision by the police, though he did say he had earlier drawn up a plan that required the park to be clear. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said this week that Barr had given the command.

New Trump appointee to foreign aid agency has denounced liberal democracy and ‘our homo-empire’ A new Trump appointee to the United States’ foreign aid agency has a history of online posts denouncing liberal democracy and has said that the country is in the clutches of a “homo-empire” that pushes a “tyrannical LGBT agenda.” In one post, Merritt Corrigan, who recently took up a position as deputy White House liaison at the U.S. Agency for International Development, wrote: “Liberal democracy is little more than a front for the war being waged against us by those who fundamentally despise not only our way of life, but life itself.” https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/new-trump-appointee-to-foreign-aid-agency-has-denounced-liberal-democracy-and-our-homo-empire/

Mark Esper Showed a Little Spine After Monday, So We Know His Days Are Numbered The SecDef, after humiliating himself at the parish hall putsch, came out and contradicted Trump and ordered the military home. Nice knowin’ ya. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper did the wrong thing before, days later, he did the right thing. Walking across Lafayette Park cleared by pepper gas and something called pepper-ball projectiles by troops on the order of the Attorney General William Barr, he was summoned to stand with the president, who was giving stage directions for his tableau where he would “dominate” the “battle space.” Esper was not innocent, but he did look flummoxed when Donald Trump pulled a Bible out of Ivanka’s purse and then didn’t read so much as a comforting passage. https://www.thedailybeast.com/mark-esper-showed-a-little-spine-after-monday-so-we-know-his-days-are-numbered?ref=home

The consensus appears to be is that the deaths are not necessarily senescence-related, but due in large part to the warehousing of frail or already ill people in close quarters without adequate medical attention or nosochromial infection control. I take that to mean that if you pack people together as in jails or ghettos, you would get a roughly comparable spike in those residents as well. And it is reported as happening in US jails and Indian ghettos.
