  1. If Williams got a big chunk of his $ as a signing bonus, he's all set and can coast from here on.
  2. I suspect that its all about staying in the public eye while making some sort of token gesture. As somone said, "There is no such thing as bad publicity".
  3. Call me a cynic, but somehow I do not think that the salary cap is even a passing concern to Jones.
  4. His name has come up in this thread only in passing, but I really like the way Markeith Ambles performed in 2021 despite the mess at QB in Calgary. If we cannot re-sign any of our top two receivers, I do not think we would lose much with him. I fully expect Oliviera to return to the fold as well- he is well integrated into the community.
  5. Gov. Ron DeSantis Going After GoFundMe For Dumping Anti-Vaccine Ottawa Truckers Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has decided to use state resources to investigate GoFundMe for dumping a group of controversial anti-vaccine truckers protesting in Canada who have been accused by Ottawa police of “unlawful” activity. The “Freedom Convoy” of truckers has been protesting for a week in downtown Ottawa over the requirement that the drivers must be vaccinated before they can drive across the border into the U.S. The truckers’ convoy was hit Friday with a $9.8 million class-action complaint for relentlessly blasting their air horns while jamming downtown Ottawa streets. They have also been accused of harassing area residents and shoppers, even assaulting some, and ripping masks off residents’ faces. Gov. 6. Canadian mayor shuts down Ted Cruz after he agitates for truckers to starve out people with 'empty shelves' Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), a former Canadian citizen, agitated for truckers to leave the people of Vancouver without food as a punishment for the government's Covid-19 vaccine mandates. The clash between Cruz and Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart began after the mayor urged truckers protesting vaccine mandates to "make your point and go home." My statement on tomorrow's planned convoy protest : As the Mayor of a city with an over 95 per cent vaccination rate, my message to the convoy is this: Vancouver doesn't want you here. Make your point and then go home." Although Cruz lives in Texas, he felt the need to weigh in on Canadian affairs. "Mayor says 'Vancouver doesn’t want' truck drivers there," Cruz wrote on Twitter. "Folks might feel differently with empty shelves." On Sunday, the mayor fired back. "Can someone tell @tedcruz our store shelves are fine thanks to the 90% of Canadian truckers who are fully vaccinated," Kennedy wrote on Twitter. "Too busy high-fiving all the awesome folks in #Vancouver that are helping push back against the #hateconvoy."
  7. Harper was able to keep the CPC loonies in check so long as he held power. When his accumulated baggage caught up to him and his popularity fell, he was savvy enough to jump before he was pushed. O'Toole probably threw out a few policies that he hoped would give Canadians a sliver of hope that the CPCers were sane, but we all know how that turned out. There was a good chance he would have backtracked or delayed acting on those promises anyways.
  8. Oklahoma teachers could be sued for $10K for teaching anything that contradicts students' religious beliefs A Republican lawmaker in Oklahoma has proposed a controversial piece of legislation that would give parents the right to file lawsuits against teachers who teach lessons that contradict the religious vies of a student. According to WBNS, Senate Bill (SB) 1470, written by "Students' Religious Belief Protection Act," is a proposal presented by Sen. Rob Standridge (R-Okla.). The bill focuses on "prohibiting public school from employing or contracting with certain persons; authorizing parent to bring certain action; providing sequence of remedies for certain action; providing exception to application of The Governmental Tort Claims Act; providing for non-codification; providing for codification; and declaring an emergency." Standridge's proposal reads, "No public school of this state, as defined pursuant to Section 1-106 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes, shall employ or contract with a person that promotes positions in the classroom or at any function of the public school that is in opposition to closely held religious beliefs of students." If a teacher is sued, they will have no options to receive help to pay the penalty. However, the proposed law offers no clarity on which religious beliefs would be included. The bill comes as Republican lawmakers and conservative-leaning organizations across the country work to control what is being taught in classrooms. National debates have erupted about whether or not critical race theory (CRT), sexuality, and politics should be discussed in school. On February 7, lawmakers will hear the proposal at the beginning of the Oklahoma Legislative Session. 9. The heretics MST be excised!!!
  10. I think it likely that chaos and destruction were an integral part of the aim of at least some of the "organizers". Being able to bring the city to a halt, alarm the politicians and do whatever the hell the wanted while the authorities stood by would give them a sense of power and legitimacy they lack in their own emotionally impoverished lives. For once, they would feel noticed and in control.
  11. Tip of the iceberg- lots of sub-surface dissent that will bubble to the surface. Wait until O'Toole speaks.
  12. Mike Pence: Trump is "wrong" that he could have overturned 2020 election Former Vice President Mike Pence had some choice words for his previous boss Friday — saying Donald Trump was "wrong" to insist earlier this week that Pence had the power to overturn the 2020 election and that the Republican Party should move on from the twice-impeached ex-president's continuing crusade to falsely cast doubt upon his loss to Joe Biden. "President Trump is wrong," Pence told a group of conservative lawyers gathered in Florida for a Federalist Society event, according to The New York Times. "I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone." "And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president," he added. The statement marks by far Pence's strongest rebuke of Trump in the year since the duo left office. The former vice president has largely kept silent about the pressure campaign against him by Trump and his allies in the White House, saying simply that they did not "see eye to eye" about the events and choosing not to cast any blame for inciting the deadly Capitol attack onto the former president. Now, however, Pence's tune appears to be shifting after what appears to be an accidental admission earlier this week from Trump, in which he released a statement which said his ultimate goal was indeed to "overturn" the election (though he did attempt to walk back the language in a subsequent statement, saying he instead wanted to "send back the votes for recertification or approval"). 13. It would be a mistake to underestimate the degree of fervour in the manufactured protests. The American reporter who covered the Ottawa kerfuffle reported that he was in an elevator with one of the protesters and quoted him as saying about Trudeau. "It will get better when we get him." - meaning a real threat of an attack on him. All it takes one crazed idiot. O'Toole was probably chosen because he was ex-military, and thus seen as hardline and willing to follow orders (presumably from the PC hierarchy) but it turned out he had both a spine and a functioning cerebral cortex. When he tried to nudge the party policy, the knives were sharpened. Rona Ambrose presents as intelligent and well-spoken. For all his flaws, Justin Trudeau is not stupid and the Liberal party is very adept in knowing when to change horses.
  14. Neither is Belladonna. Just because a substance is "natural", that doesn't mean it is either useful or benign.
  15. Any non-daytime antihistamine, really.
  16. Third day in a row, I think. Not getting any better.
  17. Harris also has a big edge in experience reading blocking and picking up blitzes. He is a darned good receiver, too. Regardless, the day must come when Harris' performance will degrade to where he cannot compete any more. I hope that he and the Bombers can ease him out gracefully and with his participation.
  18. Ah, for the good old days of the Rhinoceros party.....
  19. Seven deaths in the past 24 hours in Manitoba, ICUs are filled up and they are talking up loosening restrictions. Unbelievable.
  20. In any case, Trump turning on Pence and demanding that Pence be investigated should motivate Pence to tell all. In doing so, he may well torpedo his own political aspirations, but if you lie down with dogs, you are gonna get fleas.
  21. That movie is one of my unsung favourites.
  22. The WB cartoons have also been often cited as one of the sources of humour copied by writers and comedians to this day- along with The Muppet Show. I still love them.
