  1. also "Seaman Second Class Lawrence P. Berra was on a rocket boat stationed off the coast of Normandy on June 6, 1944, barely three weeks after his 19th birthday. He and the other six men in the 36-foot craft provided fire support for the invasion that came to be known simply as D-Day and remained in the area for nearly two weeks after the initial landings,He found himself in the middle of the action for Operation Overlord, the invasion of Europe. The rocket boats were carried across the English Channel on a larger ship and lowered over the side before their crews jumped in. The small boats moved in close to the coastline off the beach code-named Utah and were told to be on the lookout for German planes. "We were told to shoot anything that moved," Berra told author Gary Bloomfield in "Duty, Honor, Victory: America's Athletes in World War II." he boats broke out of the dawn mist on the English Channel, firing rockets at fortified German positions. Part of the job was to fire and part was to draw fire, so the German machine gun nests could be identified for airstrikes. “It was like the 4th of July out there,” Berra said. “You couldn’t stick your head up or it would get blown off.”
  2. funny how he was just gone from the publlic eye. didn't even know he was still alive. That stuff is quite brilliant. probably got as many quotes into the common lexicon as Shakespeare, and what kind of name is Yogi anyway? There was a fiddle player in wpg named Yogi.
  3. It could be worse- imagine being an old fart who doesn't get worked up about anything. Us old farts have to stick together!
  4. also, who cares if the team was competitive for a few games? really. The team has been consistently lousy since a third of the way through last season, and except for the few games of being "competitive" this season, (which includes beating winless Sask twice) they've been not very good at all. And the games Willy won for them, he had the tar beaten out of him. Obviously that won't work.
  5. Not sure what's wrong with Iso's posts… The guy has much football experience and knowledge, and is informed about the team and the league. That is, he's someone who's opinion means something to me. Who cares how he phrases things? ( I for one, don't see any problem with his comments, he's generally much less insulting than the people that don't agree with him) As for the people that don't agree with him, haven't seen many, or any of them mention their experience and knowledge, so I have nothing to say about it. Another blunt poster whose comments seem to be accurate based on team outcomes, and transactions is Juranboldenrules.
  6. "free" did you miss the part where the teams make literally billions of dollars off the players?
  7. Better story is the college football in the usa. everyone make money off that but the players. The kid selling hot dogs makes more than the players. the coaches get up to 7 million a year. players can't even get a free haircut. cue …. scholarship blah blah. and gold diggers? off the owners? lol some of the comments here are unreal. the owners are billionaires. most of them get hundreds of millions given to them by city and state governments. Outright donated. sorry Rod….
  8. Hadn't noticed it that much till people here repeatedly commented on the snaps, then hard to miss. saw one that I would describe as "alley oop" snap. As Johnzo said, it was a gentle snap, so Nichols had time to look skyward and make a nice grab.
  9. Sorry he didn't make the Steelers, but glad Ian is back….. Good defence now better.
  10. There's an interesting comment from a player, in one of the articles in the Sun. should be raising some hackles. http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/09/21/logans-runs-too-much-for-bombers "“We preached all week that we had to shut 'em down because they liked going to the (wide side),” Graig Newman said. “We knew they were going to go there, and from the starting blocks, the first return they had on us was a field return and he was off to the races. “We gotta go back and just figure out who's willing to make those plays. Who's willing to sacrifice and sell out, because those are the guys that we're gonna need if we're gonna make a run at this.”
  11. An example of this being, losing two starters on O line, plus Bryant to Wpg, and O line continues to perform well. I think some of the backups to backups are in there now and then.
  12. they didn't sign him, but they did adopt his motto.
  13. saw this comment at a wpg sun article, don't know if it's correct but here it is
  14. Yah, but those snaps bring needed toughness that was lacking hitherto.
  15. Been noticing that for a while. Do they ever block? At one time we had some receivers that were known for blocking…. Cory Watson most recently. Seems this group isn't interested in blocking. For the first time, I no longer give much of a hoot about the Bombers. Just can't get worked up about it any more. I'm bored with the tired explanations and excuses, My memory isn't that good, but I actually think the team fought harder under Kelly. Thanks DOD, it's probably not that enjoyable these days for you to put this together.
  16. Please don't waste Drew Willy's career on this bunch. They've already done a pretty good job of destroying it. Good quarterbacks are hard to find.
  17. Our revamped O line might struggle a bit against this team. Can Nichols get passes out quickly to somebody? hope so.
  18. they should just punt it through the end zone right?
  19. heard on the radio that the thunderbirds had 519 yards passing against bisons tonight. broadcast the game on cjob. The broadcast guys were very impressed with both quarterbacks.
  20. I would say….. Another horrible fumble by Burris. Third fumble in the last ten minutes of this game. One he got back. Many thanks to whoever arranged us not getting Burris.
  21. 6 completions for reilly with six minutes left in the game? yikes.
