Luke Wilson has joined TSN as a CFL sideline analyst. I watched his “takes” before on NFL games and he is an absolute moron lol

2024/2025 CFL (non-Bomber) Off-Season Thread

These lists are always terrible but I think it’s an absolute joke we don’t have a single DB in the top 50. Best secondary in football and I’d take Bonds, Nichols and possibly Holms on some of the DB’s who made the list. -

Rourkes 4 TDs, and 9 INT’s in 9 games is ugly! Especially considering how good BC’s receiving core was. -

No doubt we’re getting a reputation, sure we have a good team, great fans, but if you were a young baller and you had the chance to go to Winnipeg or another team that’s won multiple grey cups like Toronto, which team do you choose? Probably the team that will give you the opportunity to make the roster and make a name for yourself. -

Argos had the balls to release Ka’Deem Carey because they feel like they have someone younger, and cheaper to replace him. This was after a 1000 yard season, 1400 total yards and 8 TD’s.. We have a few vets that don’t even have enough in the tank as Carey that im hoping today we move on from but I wont hold my breath. -
His salary is the biggest thing against him. If he’s going to be a 5/6 guy we can’t be paying him to be a 2/3 guy. I feel like we have enough guys that can “get the job done” on the bottom of our depth chart that it’s pretty hard to justify the salary.

Really excited to see how things progress. A lot of good prospects on the defensive side of the ball. Want to see one or two vintage plays from Schoen to see that he still has it and then hoping to see some of the young receivers step up. Battle for 3rd string QB looks interesting too, Wilson will probably get it but really liked what I saw from number 16.

I’m going to take it as a positive and say there’s going to be a lot of tough decisions to make, and they want to get the young players an extended look. -

Agreed. Man I thought he was going to be a super star when I saw him play in 2022. Very disappointing to say the least. -
The one issue I have with Wilson is I think he holds onto the ball a little bit too long. He needs to be quicker with his reads. He’s prone to taking sacks, I thought Artopeous did a great job of getting rid of the ball quickly
-
I have no issues with it, I want to see shorter, quicker passes so that Zach doesn’t take a beating, and besides it’s pre season, it’s all about developing timing, and letting your receivers make a play. Regular season I’m sure we’ll see things open up a bit, but I think Zach was at his best last season when he was getting rid of the ball quick, I liked what I saw from the play calling today in terms of play calling and schemes.

Hopefully we have an OC that will use 17 as a QB and not a gimmick. Also excited to see how Wilson develops in year 2.

57-18 record as a Bomber, 2 grey cup wins, 5 grey cup appearances. The greatest era in my entire lifetime. I’m going to reserve judgment until I see the numbers but if Zach wants to keep playing, and he’s willing to give up some money by us extending him now I would say this is perfectly fine, curious to see how our new OC uses him, with a healthy Schoen and a deeper (maybe not as top end talented) receiving core I’m hoping we can get a little bit of a bounce back year from Zach. -

Well when the money runs out because you’re not in college anymore and you want to make it to the pros that’s a decision they’re going to have to make if they want to continue playing football. Most Americans don’t come up here to make a living at first, it’s because they want to get back to the NFL. -

Do you remember when Adams completed only 50 percent of his passes and had 3 INT’s and one fluky Hail Mary TD against us in the western finals? It’s not like his track record is outstanding when the bright lights shine. -

Yeah we’ve had 8 consecutive 10 win plus seasons, the only two teams with active streaks are Toronto with 3, and Montreal with 2. We’re by far the most successful team in the last decade. -

Not saying he’s not immune to criticism, but we’ve ran the West for the past 5 seasons, we’ve been one of the top three teams for nearly a decade. Trust me it’s going to be a sad day when Walters leaves the Bombers. -

Good pedigree. Played for Auburn and made SEC all freshman team. A little small at 5’8 but stuck around the NFL for a few seasons. Might be a good fit up here if he comes motivated. -

Ellingson was great! Early on with the loss of Lawler he really stepped up, sometimes you can’t avoid injuries. He was on pace for nearly 1400 yards that season, and when he went out Schoen actually stepped in and became a star so I think it worked out great. also the other names being floated around were fine in Winnipeg, Dressler was a 1000 yard guy who helped bring stability after that terrible 2015 season, and Moore was a good not great receiver on a bad team. The only one who truly didn’t workout that was mentioned was bringing in an old Bowman after a slew of injuries. I don’t think anyone expected him to be prime Edmonton Bowman at that point. -

True but 1800 yards in two seasons isn’t all pro numbers, there’s a way to communicate things for sure but Lewis isn’t as good as he thinks he is. -

I’m not as down on our team as many people are either. Remember there were games where we were without Schoen, Lawler, Demski, Wheatfall, and Woli on offense. Losing Lawler hurts but bringing White Jr, Sterns, and Cobb and getting a healthy Schoen and another year of development from Clericus I think puts us in a decent spot not to mention maybe getting creative and including a guy like Logan into the offense. On D getting a healthy Lawson, and Parker back is also important not to mention, jones, and Vaughters. There’s going to be a lot of opportunity for guys to step up, also looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Gabe Wallace who’s an absolute monster. -

Seems like some good players and pedigrees. I’m going to trust Walters plan, got to trust the scouting. The free agency champions almost every year end up being at the bottom of the standings, not to say you can’t improve your team in FA but I think there’s going to be a lot of opportunity for guys to step up.
