  1. And by miracle they mean a lot of injectable pain killer. Remember when Dunigan played with a bad shoulder? Froze it up all game. He deserved MVP that game too.
  2. I don't like the idea of three points. Two points for a win. One point for a tie. If teams play for a tie in OT so be it. I'd be fine with keeping 4 on 4 and extending OT to ten minutes.
  3. Is Halischuck still with the jets? He's help out the caps. So would Peluso. What's this rumour going around that the jets partied pretty hard last night in Montreal? Big game tonight. Franchise point streak. Maintain divisional standing. Silence some naysayers.
  4. Bob Cole is a homer. And an awful announcer. He gets revered because he's 120 years old but he sucks.
  5. Nothing wrong with the team announcers being homers. It's the national announcers that shouldn't be biased.
  6. My point is the cons came in preaching fiscal restraint and got side tracked by the recession. But the opposition insisted the cons run a higher deficit as a result. The cons ended up running a higher deficit than they wanted to avoid the political war. Point being the opposition would have run a much higher deficit and then raised taxes to off set it while blaming everyone and everything other than their policies.
  7. I don't disagree. But if you don't like the deficit then you should want to vote for the cons over the liberals and NDP who wanted the deficit even higher. Quite honestly would the opposition have been better at leadong our country through the recession? I shudder to think.
  8. Apparently they do. Since the conservatives will post a surplus. Again, as promised. My favourite (as in most hilarious) liberal nonsense was their insistence that the Cons run a higher deficit than they intended (and not even as high as the liberals and NDP wanted) when the recession hit. And then after the fact accused the cons of fiscal irresponsibility for running such a deficit.
  9. Noel had the reputation of being a teacher who was good with young guys. I think the jets thought that would translate well with a young team. But I think he maybe handled the players too sensitively. Maurice seems like he'd tear a strip off any player and would be respected for it.
  10. I'm a huge Pens fan. They were by far my favourite team....til the jets returned. I'd never wear cheer for the opposing team. But I know plenty of people in winnipeg who count the jets as their number two team
  11. Kudos to you for acknowledging your "rant" lol. A lot of people were critical of the Maurice hiring but he seems to be the right coach at the right time on the right team.
  12. Ofcourse they deserve the money. It's a multi billion dollar industry. What should they make, minimum wage?
  13. I'm not opposed. I'd prefer they not go that route but it's inevitable. Lawless made a good point though that it will be hard to see a Hans or Leafs jersey with ads on it. On the other hand, Jets will make significant revenue so more power to em
  14. I don't disagree about the GST but it doesn't matter. They campaigned on it. They promised it. They won and they delivered on their promote. Period. Ultimately lower taxes is never a bad thing. It's just not what I would have done.
  15. That part is incorrect. Judges can & do still hand out Conditional Sentences (house arrest) all the time. What the government did do is revise the criteria (like they did with pardons) to restrict those types of sentences to less serious crimes. I stand corrected. Good change regardless.
  16. Country is in far better Shape under Harper than it would have been otherwise. The blind hate for the scary Harper is laughable. Anyone but Harper? Let's hope he's PM for another five years at least. It's easy to say "he's better than the other guy" but please iterate all of the wonderful things Harper has done for Canada? I should state that I am apolitical not because I don't care but because I've read enough about politics to understand the business of it and essentially how all political parties are representing the same interests. Off topic. Maybe the mods would want to split this off if people still want to discuss politics. The Harper government has done many things, directly and indirectly. They lowered taxes. I actually am not a supporter of lowering the GST. I want when they ran on it but strategically it was very smart and I know people that strongly believe the GST reduction helps them so there's that. I generally feel that a tax like the GST generates a significant revenue without being overly burdensome. But "lower taxes" is a positive. They campaigned on it, promised it and delivered it. Brought in income splitting, which the promised. Created the Tax Free Savings Account. Im not overly knowledgable on investment but I can tell you my parents LOVE the TFSA and prefer it over RSP's. They've been tougher on crime. They campiagned on raising the age of consent and delivered. It was a no-brainer and the close-in-age exception made sense (even though the idea of teens having sex probably ran counter to fundemental conservative ideals), They did other things to improve justice as well like eliminating 2 for 1 credit, dropping the house arrest or whatever its called and ofcourse as we learned just last week, allowing for longer sentences in regards to parole elegiability. Something that should be interesting to the Union friendly Manitoba population is the feds ban on corporate and union donations and the lowering of individual donations. Introduced the universal child tax benefit. They campaigned on it, promised it and delivered it. Repealed portions of the gun registry. Increased patrol of the North which might not seem important now but will likely be very important in the future. And quite honestly, I think increased our image and clout in the world. The one thing I like is that, regardless of what side of the political spectrum you fall, you have to admit that they made promises when they campaigned and delivered those promises. Canada came through the recession better then any other G7 nation. So thats just a few things that the Harper government has done.
  17. Nah Jets are more three lines now then they have been. Perrault is so so so good. Doesn't have the stats to back it up but his puck possession skills are tremendous. Certainly that line needs to get some goals but they are effective. Fourth line still needs an overhaul. I've always liked slayer but has his time come and gone? Wouldn't Cormier be a better option? As for Peluso he needs to dress if we play games like last night. Love the fight in wheeler and Kane but they shouldn't be dropping the gloves
  18. Trouba's very lucky he didn't get an instigator on that play. Went straight for him and threw his first punch before Sill had time to drop his mitts. I was happy that was all that was called on the play. IMO if you drops your gloves and throw a punch it should be called a fight. Also lucky was Buff for only getting a minor for running Downie into the end boards after the goal. Could have been 5 for how cheap/dangerous it was. Downie's greasy, but he's definitely effective. Played a good game and got Buff off his game. He was waving Buff to the box when the misconducts were called. No doubt that's what he wanted to happen. They must have been warned before hand to stay away from each other b/c that call came quick on that play. I agree. Buff should have got more but didnt. Giving him a ten minute later was ridiculous. Unless he said something but it didnt look like it. Downie was losing his mind. Letting third line players take top end talents off the ice for ten minutes shouldnt happen so easily. At least they wised up and booted Downie before his penalty had even expired.
  19. http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/jian-ghomeshi-how-he-got-away-with-it/ Good read.
  20. Ladd has been a lot more on his game lately then he was to start the season. I think in years past Ladd was the poster child for the Jets but the talent around him has caught up so he doesnt stand out as much. 6 or 7 goals says he's doing alright. Agreed about Wheeler. In the past he'd disappear for long stretches. Now, even if he's not scoring, he's flying around, hitting, fighting. He's a beast. If Ladd was traded right now, Wheeler would be captain. In a year or two it might be a battle between him and Trouba. Reffing was "ok". I thought they gave the Jets a break on one call (cant remember which one now - oh maybe the Buff crosscheck of Downy that should have been a Pens PP but wasnt). But they got completly hoodwinked by Downy into taking Buff off the ice for 12 minutes. That was nonsense. Plus, giving Trouba the extra penalty in the fight was a little off since, as Beyak pointed out, the Pens player dropped the gloves and was throwing punches too. To turn back 5 Pens' PP's is remarkable. I will say this though, maybe its time to dress Peluso if Wheeler and Kane are going to be fighting,.
  21. Wow. Dr CFL's comments have a lack of objectiveness. The Jets problems have never been been talent. It's been depth and heart. Both have been improved. Im not ready to plan the parade but obviously something happened in the locker room after the Flames game which I think was around the time of the "I could you f'n cry in that room" remark by Maurice. Being objective, just looking at the talent on paper, the team is "good". They dont have a Crosby. But Kane-Scheif-Wheeler is a legit number one line.
  22. Yeah his questioning Kane in the shoot out when he played great all game and scored on a Breakway... Lol like come on that's a no brainer.
  23. No kidding. "Bomber fan" is accurate cause he doesn't know hockey. What a game. Wow. Jets can hold their heads high tonight. Tremendous game.
  24. Country is in far better Shape under Harper than it would have been otherwise. The blind hate for the scary Harper is laughable. Anyone but Harper? Let's hope he's PM for another five years at least.
  25. A few groupies? *shakes head* Having sex with a famous person without any semblance of a relationship, I don't know but how else can they be classified? How many endured his abuse and came back multiple times for more? . Maybe educate yourself about the key points of this situation. Many of these women were co workers. One was an actress. Another was a lawyer. Not groupies.
