  1. I just saw this mentioned in another site and it was weird to me too. How many people were jolted by the lack of 20th Century Fanfare at the beginning of the film? We knew it would be missing ofcourse but Disney had created a different "fanfare" for the digital releases but didnt use it here. The film just started. The old fanfare almost seemed like part of Star Wars. Also, Cineplex should lower the price if we have to sit through ten minutes of commercials. It was really long. I remember when commercials in front of films started and they were like unique "big" commercials. Now they are just generic stupid ads. Then they play a long ad for Cineplex! Im already here! Ugh And only two trailers in my showing (I like the trailers). Captain America and Batman V Superman. No Star Trek in the 3D showing.
  2. The discussion would go better if everybody understood the difference between those that think they know and those that are open to different possibilities. Then again, no one here is changing their minds. Its only the staunch Global Warming people that think everyone else is 100% wrong. Funny...there was a time when Al Gore was considered an authority. Now that he's wrong, he's discredited. Can we assume Sazuki is discredited too? I would think if people really truly believed their carbon footprint was killing the earth, they would go to great lengths to reduce it. Those two clowns dont. How about the massive amounts of waste to attend Paris? COuldnt have chit chatted over webcam? None of them really believe it. That's your first clue.
  3. Why is this a fact, because you say so? So in the 70s when the scientific consensus was we were entering an ice age, I guess it was true. And My response was perfectly clear in regards to Al Gore. You just want to hold up a criticism of the Global Warming celebrity poster child as criticism of scientists and dismiss it. Which is cool. I don't care whether you accept or dismiss my opinion. Neither of us are experts and neither of us can say what will happen...well actually those of us that accept the cyclical nature of the temperature of the earth accept that what has come before will come again. I believe in being kind to the earth. But the warm-mongerers push an agenda and arent always correct. Like with the disappearing arctic ice.
  4. Can't say I agree with this Your Balance $3.51+tax Canada Liberals put halt to controversial finance disclosure rules for unions By: Jordan Press, The Canadian Press Posted: 12/21/2015 11:04 AM | Last Modified: 12/21/2015 2:12 PM | Comments: 1 OTTAWA - The federal government has taken its first step towards repealing a controversial law that would have required unions to disclose finite details of their spending. The government says it is waiving requirements for unions to track every dollar of spending so it could one day be publicly disclosed by the Canada Revenue Agency. The rules were contained in a Conservative private member's bill passed in June over objections from unions, police associations, the federal privacy commissioner, the Canadian Bar Association and seven provinces who called it unconstitutional and argued it would cost millions for the federal government to enforce. Bill C-377 required unions to disclose all transactions over $5,000, reveal the details of officers or executives who make over $100,000 to the Canada Revenue Agency, which would publicly post the information to its website.
  5. Apparently the knock on Armia is that he "coasts" sometimes. You dont want to reward that but I wonder if he plays up to the intensity. ie. no coasting in the NHL. That was a really solid 4th line last game.
  6. I do not agree. Mostly because there is not consensus. Im no expert, but there are articles using NASA data to show the ice caps are not receding since 1979. But my main point was to denigrate the populist arguments about Global Warming. Al Gore is/was a poster child for this. Whatever Gore is, he was used by the media as an expert. Millions of people believe him. And to oppose him is to be called a denier. And so he's wrong...and quietly removes his videos and statements so he doesnt appear to be wrong. Basically, if you say "five years" forever, you will eventually be correct. No?
  7. I have a HIGHEST possible recommendation for a Netflix Original Documentary Series: Making A Murder. Based on an incredible true story. The non-Spoiler aspect of it is some poor, unsophisticated bumpkin gets tried and convicted for a rape. 18 years later he is exonerated due to DNA. And then the real story begins... just unbelievable. Ten part series because there are so many twists and turns and its a documentary! I couldnt stop watching. I only stopped after Episode 5 last night because it was 2am. Everytime you think it couldnt get any wilder, it does. Watch it!
  8. Anyone who has been to Las Vegas can attest to the swarms of people walking up and down the strip. This is just crazy. (CNN)[Breaking news update, 1:38 p.m. ET] The woman who drove her car onto a sidewalk along the Las Vegas Strip, killing one person and injuring 37 others, has been identified as 24-year-old Lakeisha N. Holloway, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joe Lombardo said. Prosecutors will initially file a single charge of murder with a deadly weapon against Holloway, District Attorney Steven Wolfson said. Additional charges are possible, including multiple counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident and child abuse/neglect, Wolfson said. One of the hospitals that treated the injured, University Medical Center, said that of the 15 patients who arrived, one died, two were discharged, three are in critical condition and nine are in serious condition. Of the patients at this hospital, five are Canadians, University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said.
  9. Those nets look like soccer nets compared to the size of the goalies.
  10. For sure. They sort of kill the "versus" angle when they show them as wise-cracking buddies. None of the dialogue did it for me. The scene that was supposed to be "epic" when Bruce meets Clark was such awful dialogue ruined by an obnoxious Luther. The worst thing was the "is she with you" joke. Moronic.
  11. Rumours and speculation (that will get deleted) aside, only going by what observers stated...
  12. Great point. We will probably get scenes of both training and the opposing philosophies. Should be very cool. I liked the subtle references/easter eggs. The Falcon's issue being a bad motivator (same issue it had in...Empire?). Maz described the Force very similar to how Kenobi did in A New Hope (no mention of MidiChlorians). The old guy at the beginning saying they need the Jedi to maintain "balance in the force".
  13. According to the site DC Comics Movie, we can expect "Batman v Superman" to be quite the hefty film indeed. Pre-orders are apparently up for Germany, and the country lists the runtime for the film as 151 minutes, which translates to two hours and 31 minutes. Read more at: https://tr.im/6Hz7b The latest trailer is a dog. And played poorly before Star Wars on Friday. Really squeezed the excitement I had for Batman V Superman. Just an awful trailer. I almost thought it was George Clooney in the cowl with the "Is she with you" line... ugh
  14. It gets easier to make fun of people when they quote you as making fun of people when you weren't. I mean yikes...this debate has really sunk if that's what we're doing. It was a short sentence, four words. Try reading it again.
  15. I would think Johnson will have some set parameters to work within and then be given some creative freedom to make his film look and feel a bit different. But the transitions, the narrative...I think it will be in keeping with the tone set forth in this one. I recall them saying it was important to set all that. In fact, I think Lawrence Kasdan is done after the Han Solo film and did not work on the Episode VIII script. He helped find the voice of the new trilogy and now isnt needed (or so they say, I would have kept him). Im not sold on Abrams so while I'd like to give him his credit, I wonder how much Kathleen Kennedy played into setting limits and how much Kasdan's contributions created that voice. Because this film seems so respectful of the originals and embraced that history and canon and the "beats" of the original so much in such a way that the Star Trek films didnt, it makes me wonder.
  16. Time frame is wrong lol
  17. Which is exactly the point.
  18. I haven't really taken a position on science so to say you're attacking my grasp of science is laughable. It's one way to avoid dealing with facts and common sense though. Heres a a whoops for you http://www.mrctv.org/blog/flashback-7-years-ago-al-gore-said-north-pole-would-be-ice-free-five-years?utm_campaign=naytev&utm_content=56778968e4b04ddc3f60b1a8
  19. Breaking records With a record-breaking $238 million opening weekend at box offices in the U.S. and Canada, in addition to a near-record $279 million overseas, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” isn’t just a hit, but the spark Disney needed for years of sequels, toys, videogames, television series, theme-park attractions and more that it is planning or already producing. The “Star Wars” sequel blasted the prior record for a domestic movie opening of $209 million set by “Jurassic World” in June. The film, which cost a little more than $200 million to produce, is poised to gross well over $1 billion, and could go much higher, particularly with people expected to take time off from work during the holidays.
  20. Well we can assume Ford wanted out as he did back in the originals. But his fate serves the story. It had to happen. And there is already speculation he might appear in the next film so I don't think his age is an issue.
  21. Could Snoke tempt our heroes with resurrection of the dead? If he is Darth Plaegius which is an interesting idea. And would tie it to the prequels. A being so powerful he resurrected himself? there has to be a greater twist than just Rey redeeming Kylo like Luke did for Vader. I also wonder if they'd "resurrect" Vader. Kylo's seemed to imply he had been speaking with Vader. Which even if he had seen his ghost it makes little sense for Anakin to have an evil ghost. But perhaps snoke is tricking him. there have been rumors of Hayden Christianson in Episode VIII. And certainly we'd love to see force ghosts of Yoda and Kenobi appearing to Luke....perhaps Anakin as well?
  22. I'm no expert but it seems to be different for different players. Shane Hnidy indicated it wasn't a huge deal. But it that was always true in every case then we would never have had three top RHD with a weak left side so I suspect it matters depending on the players involved I remember Trouba's rookie year when Bogo played his off side and some attributed his slip that year to that reason.
  23. EW has an article up with some cool tidbits I didn't catch upon first viewing Rey's vision contains dialogue from Yoda and Kenobi. They had frank Oz record new dialogue but used old dialogue for Kenobi they used both Alec Guiness and Ewen Macgregor. Very cool. I didn't catch it but Kenobi says "Rey....these are your first steps". http://www.ew.com/article/2015/12/20/jj-abrams-reveals-obi-wan-and-yoda-are-star-wars-force-awakens
  24. I'm sure that's very true but why did it seem quicker and more efficient before sub contracting. Why is that?
