  1. Even though teams did hit on over 50% it was with a limited amount of attempts.  I feel the percentage goes down the more you attempt it just because teams have the film on your previous converts and they plan for it to a greater degree. Coaches want to save their best plays for when they really NEED that 2 points. Once it's on film it loses some effectiveness unless you're the type of team that has a strength that works even when the other team knows it's coming.  The 2015 Bombers were not that kind of offense.

Also the consequences of missing multiple 2 pointers in a game means that you could end up beating yourself in a close one.  I'm sure coaches see this as a good way to be fired.

  2. And where does it say Lirim wants to come back in any capacity?  All I've read is that he wants to leave. Combine that with the epic crash of last year and this guy is a giant question mark that I can do without.  I'm tired of "Bombers will make the playoffs IF..."  and he's an if.

Medlock I would truly be excited about.  That's a guy who you know will not lose you games.

  3. It's not always the GM.  Coaches hire the assistants usually.  So a team could in theory tamper twice in a year but by two separate individuals.  Does that make it a second offence or two first offences?  Just saying I'm not sure who they are trying to punish here, the football club or the individual. Past first offence it just gets vague.

84.5% (source: Research Institute of Research) of fans wouldn't even notice that the coordinators don't field questions if the media would stop making such a stink about it.

Bob Irving always had these guys on the radio and mostly it was just folksy stuff about how they got to the league and what they do in the off-season. Nobody is expecting anything other than that. It helps promote the football club.

  5. I have to agree with Esks1975, those Eskimo teams were better managed and found better talent.  What they paid was irrelevant. There was very little player movement at that time. Your options were to sign with the team that held your rights, hold out or try the NFL. That's what held the talent in place. In the free agent market of today a 5 year string is unthinkable.  2 is the most in recent years (montreal 2009,2010)  and you have to go back the Doug Flutie era to find the next previous.

  6. As far as Pierce being broken, I just remember he was cut in BC and not a team in the league would touch him.  Not even for free, which he was.  Even Joe Mack publicly said no.  He eventually changed his mind for reasons known only to him but I'd guess he couldn't find anyone better.  The surprise was that Pierce still had some game left but it wasn't much, not playing the style that he did.  With few exceptions, Wally always did know when a player's time was up.

Why don't we have a rank the top 9 OC's in the league?  I bet no one would agree.  Lapo is saying what the majority here want.  We'll see if he can walk the walk now.

    From Free Press:

LaPolice cited an improvement to the Bombers woeful run game and keeping QB Drew Willy upright as his top priorities next season. "We want to make sure we can effectively run the football and take some pressure off the quarterback. And we want to make sure we can do some things to get the ball out of his hand quickly," said LaPolice.

So when Walters gives him Chevon Walker and Dominic Picard what then?

I would say we need a separate thread about recruiting. Truthfully it's bottom tier, especially the US side.

  9. ...I remember when Damon Allen was quarterback in T.O. and his final season there...The previous year was pretty good and the argos decided to stick with him as their no 1 the next...They used to call him gumby as he was almost injury proof, then the inevitable happened and father time caught up with him that year...He was pulled half way through the year and was done...Henry Burris...the next Damon Allen??we'll see.

Calvillo the same. One hit that didn't look that bad but he was 41.  It can end quick.

  10. Very sorry to hear.  At the time Mini-Mack Herron and Don Jonas (QB at the time) were loved in this city similar to what Khari and Milt were in a later era. One of the most talented and entertaining to ever wear the Blue and Gold.  His time here was over far too soon. He was never forgotten though and we watched with pride as he made highlight reel after highlight reel in the NFL. A shame more footage doesn't exist. May he rest in peace.
