I am glad, though, I am happy to see the league under-rate this team. If we stay reasonably healthy and Zach performs at a higher level than the last 2 years, this will be the best team we've put on the field since 21 imo.

I think Perkins is the best option at QB2 for now...and if he is hope he gets real reps throughout the season too, as it will just get him acclimated that much quicker....but for his minimal time here...and working behind and with garbage for most part looked pretty comfortable
I not as anti arm strength against hi as some...he has more than an adequate arm, and you dont need a howitzer to succeed, you need touch...be able to throw a guy open and place a ball....if he can master that, to go with his ability on the ground and I can see him being lethal with that up here we should be just fine as TE learns and develops
And with this maybe being ZC swan song a more developed and capable Perkins who could possibly shows he is a legit starter rolling into 2027 camp allows us to not force feed TE into the fracass if he not really quite ready yet...and destroying his confidence...dude is young and licked up for 3 yrs...no need to rush it...let him grab it legitimately

Seems to me this is a linebacker who is thinking about it in terms of who is going to be more elusive. Brady isn't that elusive, he'll just run you over.

He also seems healthy for the first time in a long time. Im sure he will bounce back from the last two years, just a question of what is his current top level of performance. I think his peak performance capability is something like the early 2ks tier QBs. Sporadic high passing yards out put, high 2 and out count, lots of tds, close to the same amount of pics.

with our Canadian linebackers...Kelly...possibly Stuart for more ST work than anything we don't really need to DI a LB per say, and we can also roster 2 import DT's...we have before and save for the last 2 yrs of roster stupidity should easily be able to....If Bailey and Gatkouth show they can be used in rotation then we may just roster 1 import end, seeing as Ceresna can play off edge. But I'd like to see us dress just Ceresna as no import DT showed anything, and have both Jenkins and Dixon on roster, as Dixon can easily slide inside, and also a WJ..Dixon..Ceresna..Jenkins front in some sets would be a real headache for opposing offences...And a 4 man base of Lawson and Ceresna in the middle and any 2 of WJ/Jenkins/Dixon/Bailey/Gatkouth is light yrs ahead of anything we put out there the last 2 yrs...and would easily look 2019'ish
There not gonna be room for all of Wilson/Jones/Woodbey/Ayers on active roster. Only way we can do that is if we go with the belief that one of Ball..Kelly...Stuart or Hallett is trusted at safety and an injury to a DB we slide Kramdi to SAM and shift Griffin to DB as he can play all the spots...and well.
The one guy who may be the odd man out and 1 gamed all yr is Allen unless he grabs the corner job

Yeah, I was encouraged by what both qbs showed. I think perkins has a lower ceiling but a very high floor, which should allow Elgersma time to develop to his lofty potential. I'm pretty excited to see both in game two as well.
I don't know how we could not look at Andrews, or why we would draft him if he played like that and didn't get strong consideration. Last years punter was a better leg then Sheahan, but Andrews looks like his leg should be in the NFL. He had that monster field position flipping punt but he also had some strong hang time and smoked a few long ones.
Yeah it was. Singers a good one, I kind of expect him to sit on the PR and develop at first, but he's talented.

Be nice to see Elgersma with actual CFL WR's and not just a bunch of rookies.

And a run game

Nobody is perfect, but there are people on this board who have the correct analysis / opinion, more often than not. In fact, some of the team's moves in the offseason, confirmed what people here have been saying.

2 cuts already. Javier who had a couple real bad moments and Battle.
We brought back recent cuts WR Womack, Dl Arnold and Fletcher. A bit surprised we are cycling through our own cuts already, but the NFL pre camps probably have every one down south in a holding pattern

Unless it's injury related (and I think it was in Womack's case, but not sure about the two DL), bringing back our cuts after not giving them a look in the pre-season game is a bit embarrassing and just shows our lack of ability to really know what we're valuing when we scout players.

You start smith and use Kyrie as the naturalized player. Save the DI spot.
Will that happen? I think its a matter of time. MIght not happen at the start of the year (though it should) but I think by late season he will be starting.
Hes looked pretty good in TC from what Ive seen. Great flow to the ball guy. Work to do in cover, but great instincts, plays fast and strong.
They picked on his side late. But what was happening is the switches in Jys split field cover zone weren't happening. With the PA cameras, it wasn't clear that 1 guy was messing everyone up, but the whole side was struggling. But the deep cover assignment was the most problematic, which wouldn't be stuarts assignment.

Elgersma, yeah pretty much. We will see how game 2 goes but I think he will essentially be qb3. If perkins’s runs short yardage maybe they’ll roster elgersma as 2 but functionally use perkins as 2.
I’m not worried about eli yet, he barely played C. Ellsbury played most of the snaps. But his performance sure does lead to us being thin at C.

It's not a mistake that every team he's on is always in a hurry to replace him.

We all know the reasons why ZC had a resurgence after he came here in 2019. Top notch pass pro, a great running game and sure-handed receivers who also played the game tough as nails and complimented his style of play. The past 2 seasons, they have not provided him with anything even close to that. In fact, the offensive rostering and planning has been borderline inexplicable.

I wonder if we are planning to roll out a double-tight alignment this year.
With Wallace sliding out to T, a significant glut of OL despite the starters being set, moving Clercius to slot, bringing in another NI WR on starter money, plus drafting Daniels while also having MCI, it would make sense. Not to mention the American C, who played much of the first preseason game (they love Eli in the Te Pack)
Our new heavy set would be double tight instead of just 1 te. That would give us 7 blockers on 4 DL and 2 lbers, guaranteeing at least 1, if not 2, double team blocks and forcing DBs to be 1-on-1 with the RB, but also with a big blocker, which would have the D wanting to sub to go heavy with 1-2 players as well, which would leave us needing to have Heavies who are also passing threats. As teams are carrying extra DL currently, but not full-size linebackers, especially not ones capable of man covering.
Daniels isn't the best runner, but he's faster than Eli. (Who they like pass catching, crazy as that is.) The plan might be Wallace/Eli/Daniels as 1 TE more as primary blockers, but guys who have varying ability to release, and a guy like MCI/Clercius/Nield on the other spot doing more blocking and release on pass plays and more routes than blocking.
And while the D is focusing on run fits and figuring out who covers the big guys, the likes of White/Wilson/Demski are left as afterthoughts to run mostly 1-on-1s with minimal help.
Even the imp RB, rocker, is a big do-it-all tweener back. The depth of Canadian WRs we have are almost all big, slow, block and good hands types.
It also kind of aligns with the volume of huge OL we have this year. We have 7 guys easily passing 330lbs. Vs just 2 under 305, and 3 under 310. Out of 14 ol in camp. We look like we are in an arms race, prepping for trench warfare in the run game.

There is some precedent for this down south, 3 teams have been running 13 formation, most notably the Rams. Who are a team with a similar run pack, and who we have had more than a little overlap with in passing concepts going back through the last 3 OCs.

When we are talking our receiving corps. we have to mention Singer...This guy plays like he wants to stay and made a very good argument for just that.....White is all of his stats. and more...Petersen had a poor showing yesterday but that could be because the hogs up front were not being able to punch some holes for him...One more preseasoner and some guys better step up their game

The only way for Elgersma to learn is thru mistakes. The learning curve is steep. Once he adjusts to the speed of the CFL game then he'll play a lot better. He'll have better days.

Stuart was all over the field. The processing is just a step behind but he’s always in the right leverage and he’s always the guy finishing plays at the ball run or pass when he’s on the field.
Contrast to a guy like Kelly who is indecisive, too often in wrong leverage as ball is moving out or up field even at year 3, play is always going by him. He can run fast in a straight line but has no football skills physically or mentally to succeed at this level. When it comes to who gets on the roster…..Stuart will be a great special teamer and the sky is the limit on D. I think he’s probably the best WIL/MAC prospect on the field today. But he was playing half in this one.
